Not in Apple’s built-in AirPrint either. I checked both Samsung, and HP entries, as for instance, my Samsung ML-2955ND appears as the HP ML-2955ND, and not as a Samsung device. In your case, HP’s AirPrint support starts with the ML-1865W laser support.

GutenPrint has support for the Samsung ML-1650 and ML-1650N, but not explicitly the ML-1660. The ML-1650 support may or may not drive the ML-1660 laser.

It worked for me .

You have to follow the following steps :

  • Double-click on the package you downloaded
  • Double-click the mounted package on your desktop
  • Double-click on the folder : Mac_Printer
  • Plug and switch your printer on
  • Double-click on the file : Printer Driver.pkg
  • Follow the instructions

Once the driver has been installed

Go to printers in System parameters and add your printer

Question: Q: I cant install my printer after the 11.01 macos Big Sur

Apple decided to make the laser printer Samsung CLP 360 series dysfunctional over a night. No drivers provided for this model that can work with macos Big Sur anymore. In HP they admit that they are unable to find drivers for my product https://support.hp.com/ie-en/drivers/selfservice/samsung-clp-360-color-laser-printer-series/17156859

CLP-360_Series_Mac_PrinterDriver_V5.02.00 were working fine with macos X 10.15 during the installation through Bonjour. But now they are not available anymore. I installed them by myself but the system can’t detect them. So the printer is not working.

Any kind of help it will be more than welcome.

I finally resolved the problem and this may help others that have the same issues with incompatible Samsung printers and drivers in Big Sur.

First check for your printer here Samsung — Printers compatible with macOS Catalina 10.15 it seems that these drivers work with Big Sur as well.

For the CLP-360 and CLP-365W compatible are the drivers for SL-C430W. You should download drivers for the macOS 10.15 Samsung Universal Print and Scan DriverV3.92.002 (Sep 16, 2020)

Install the drivers and a new list of printers is now available to system preferences.

While I can’t see the name of my printer there, I chose the second one but I checked 3 more and it seems that they work as well.

Apple is not an island. Users do not work in isolation with their apple products. It always takes two to tango. Both companies are responsible to support their users by resolving problems and not creating further ones. It seems that designing new sound effects for every interaction was their higher priority.

Apple is not responsible for third-party printer drivers. That is HP, who now owns the Samsung printer business, and may choose to prioritize newer printers for Big Sur support over older printers, and some printers will never receive newer drivers. Take that up with HP.

Your Samsung CLP-360 is not supported with Apple’s AirPrint either.

You are correct. The vendors must work together and most of them do. Apple had advised HP well in advance of the specific technical requirements of the upcoming Big Sur operating system, so the requirements were well known by HP. If HP declines to support Apple’s customers, that is on them. Apple does not, and can not write printer driver software for the thousands of printers out there around the world since they do not own or have access to the proprietary software code of each printer model. It is unfortunate that you have to have this experience.

I have a suggestion which may help you. Check the link below where volunteers have written code for many older models of printers which the vendors no longer support. There may be one that works for you.

Excellent suggestion! After deleting, adding the same printer and using Generic PostScript Printer printing is again functioning.

The generally suggested fix for the ‘Filter failed’ problem is to delete the printer and then upload the driver yourself, not let it select from the OS builtin set. However, right now the Lexmark driver site doesn’t allow Big Sur (10.16) as an option for a driver download.

Same problem overher with my Lexmark CX310 when i print. Printer receives nothing it even does not even wake up. Tried to install new drivers from Lexmark but this is also resulting in an error so new driver are not installed.

My company we run a Canon C5035, we updated all the iMac 2019 and MacBook to OS Big Sur. Now when we print the text comes out as gray squares. This is a monumental problem for our business. Please provide support ASAP

This error is showing when trying to add a printer. this never happened in catalina

An error occurred while trying to add the selected device.

For Lexmark printers (is what I have. ) just install the same driver for your printer using in the «use» drop menu the Generic PostScript Printer.

Nov 16, 2020 12:38 PM

After the update, my Lexmark MS415dn stopped working, «Filter» Failed. I went to the Lexmark support page, no drivers available for the Big Sur update yet.

Additionally after the update when I purchase postage though PayPal, the label appears blank. If I close the page and select «reprint label, it appears and can be printed on my backup printer made by Epson.

I tried to install monochrome Lexmark printer driver and the installation failed. The only driver available was for OS 10.9, nothing yet for 11.01.

Still working on both issues.

Nov 16, 2020 8:27 AM

Just installed Big Sur on my Mac mini 2018.

Tried to print to a Canon Image Class MF 4150 and then to a Brother HL-L2360D printers to no avail.

Had to RESET the Mac printing system to solve a problem.

If you can’t print to your printer and you’ve tried all other solutions, reset the printing system. This process deletes all printers from your list of printers, deletes information about all completed print jobs, and deletes all printer presets.

Important: First, try other troubleshooting techniques in Solve printing problems on Mac.

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Printers & Scanners.
  2. Press and hold the Control key as you click in the list at the left, then choose “Reset printing system” from the menu that appears.
  3. After you reset the printing system, the list of printers in Printers & Scanners preferences is empty.
  4. Re-add any printers.

Question: Q: I upgraded to Big Sur 11.3 and the Samsung ML-1865 printer don’t works anymore

I hope to fix this problem, I have been trying everything for 4 days (11.3 clean install of course) to get my Samsung ML-1865 working

The OS doesn’t even let me choose an alternative driver like a generic Postscript, I also tried the Gutenberg drivers

i tried using the printers folder backup in catalina.

I tried an updated driver in February for the SL-M2880FW MFP

but like the previous attempts it prints an «internal error» page

INTERNAL ERROR — Please use the proper driver

SYSTEM: h6fw_5.49 / hl_op

VERSION: SPL 5.49 10-20.2010

does anyone have a REAL solution with download links and not theoretical ?

Thanks in advance

PS my Epson 1250 photo scanner still works thanks to an updated driver

iMac 21.5″, macOS 11.3

The Samsung ML-1865W and ML-1865WK devices are supported by Apple’s built-in AirPrint when networked. You will not need any software or drivers from any other source, including HP to support this printer. The AirPrint listing has them shown as HP-branded devices, not Samsung.

With the ML-1865 networked and powered on, visit System Preferences > Printers & Scanners panel, and right-click on the device entry in the Printers listing. Select Reset printing system… from the secondary menu. This will briefly remove the device from the Printers listing, open a Bonjour panel indicating that it discovered the ML-1865 on the network, and then you can re-add the device by selecting AirPrint as the driver. This is how my Samsung ML-2955ND is supported.
