Вся информация, которая хранится на этих логических дисках, хранится в зашифрованном виде. Получить доступ к информации на «секретном» диске можно, введя пароль.

Dekart Private Disk Light
Приложение позволяет зашифровать данные, хранящиеся на жестком диске, создав виртуальное пространство. Для защиты информации используется алгоритм AES.
Dekart Private Disk Light – приложение для Windows, с помощью которого можно создать защищенное хранилище. Утилита позволяет подключить виртуальный жесткий диск, содержимое которого будет зашифровано с использованием алгоритма AES. Программа используется для обеспечения безопасности фотографий, видеозаписей, документов и других важных файлов от несанкционированного доступа.
Виртуальный диск
После запуска утилиты пользователи могут создать защищенное хранилище. Для этого необходимо выбрать букву диска и задать размер. Далее следует ввести пароль, который потребуется для доступа к данным. При этом утилита автоматически определяет степень надежности ключа. Для повышения уровня безопасности рекомендуется использовать цифры, буквы и спецсимволы.
Затем следует выполнить форматирование хранилища. Виртуальный жесткий диск отображается в списке накопителей, как обычный носитель. Пользователи могут скрыть его, нажав кнопку Disconnect в главном меню утилиты.
Безопасность данных
Для того, чтобы зашифровать файл, необходимо переместить его в защищенное хранилище. С целью обеспечения безопасности данных программа использует два ключа, сгенерированных по алгоритму AES. Один из них применяется для шифрования содержимого виртуального носителя, а другой – для защиты пароля. Dekart Private Disk Light is free disk encryption software for Windows. This free disk encryption software creates a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mounts it as a real disk. All data encryption is extremely fast, automatic, on-the-fly and with no performance penalty. Private Disk Light uses NIST certified AES 128-bit encryption to protect confidential information.
Private Disk Light creates one or more virtual encrypted disks on your hard drive and/or other external storage devices. Once a user creates a virtual encrypted disk, that disk is assigned a new drive letter and appears to the user like any other system drive (like the A: or C: drive). When the encrypted disk is mounted, the data is automatically encrypted and decrypted when the user writes or reads this data respectively.
The encrypted data can be accessed only after you enter the correct password. Without the password, the information from a secure disk is completely secure.

Why Dekart Private Disk is more secure than Dekart Private Disk Light?
In DPD Light your disk is encrypted by the «AES key» using AES algorithm; the «AES key» itself is encrypted by the «RC4 key» using RC4 algorithm with default key length installed on your computer. The length of RC4 key depends on Windows settings and can be either 56 or 128-bit. Open the «About» dialog in Internet Explorer and check if you have 128-bit encryption. The RC4 key is generated from your password using SHA-1 algorithm.
In Dekart Private Disk 2.xx we don’t use Windows cryptography for data encryption. So the disk is encrypted using AES 256-bit algorithm. The AES key is encrypted using AES 256-bit algorithm. The second AES 256-bit key is also generated from your password using SHA-512.
So the difference is that we no longer use RC4 algorithm and switched completely to AES 256-bit encryption. Why two AES keys are necessary: one is used for Disk encryption (independent from your password) and another AES key is generated from your password. The answer is that this architecture allows to easily change the password without the need to reencrypt the whole disk’s data. If you change the password – Disk’s encryption key remains the same, it’s just reencrypted with another AES key (generated from the new password).

Private Disk is hard disk encryption software with unique features, combining strong NIST-certified AES 256-bit encryption with a simple and straightforward interface.
This disk encryption program creates multiple encrypted disks for storage of confidential information. Encrypted disks behave like regular disks, your programs can use them in a usual way, there is no need to reconfigure them.
Automatic data encryption is transparent: files are encrypted on the fly when they are written to the encrypted disk, and decrypted when read from it.
Access to the encrypted disk is monitored by Disk Firewall, a unique data protection mechanism that guards your data from Trojans, viruses or other types of malware. Disk Firewall controls which applications are allowed to access the encrypted disk. If a specific application is not found in the white-list, it will be unable to read or change the confidential information stored on the encrypted disk.

USB flash drive encryption = Private Disk + USB flash drive
