An OS that is working to bring convergence to the desktop and mobile. High commitment to FOSS and upstreaming code which is being picked up by other projects like Mobian-Project.com which I have running on a Pinephone. The online matrix community is friendly and I’ve found them to be very helpful. I think others would benefit know that PureOS supports aarch64 and recommend that Distrowatch add it to the «Processor Architecture» section. I know this is true as I have a Librem5 phone that came with PureOS and it is an aarch64 device. Nice see corporate support that is dedicated to freedom oriented system. | |
Version: 9.0 Rating: 8 Date: 2021-02-24 Votes: 16 | Not bad but essentially it’s pure Debian minus non-free. If they had stripped out systemd I might have kept it. |
Version: 9.0 Rating: 10 Date: 2020-12-19 Votes: 35 | You hear complaints about PureOS about how it’s just Debian with non-free disabled and Purism really didn’t do much to put it together. To my mind this is a benefit, not a hindrance. If you want a fairly pure Debian Gnome experience on a workstation this is it! With actual Debian, in my experience, you’ve got to go through a bunch of frustrations and tweaks to get it to where Purism have gotten PureOS where you get a frustration free experience out-of-the-box. Little things like shipping it with gnome-tweaks and flatpaks already installed go a long way in my book. And not trying to reinvent the wheel with their own spins means that this is one of the most stable Gnome experiences I have found, especially after the decision to move this to the Debian Stable branch. Effectively Purism have done the QA rather than made massive changes and that is very much for the better. It is true, though, that as an FSF-approved distro you need to have a wifi card that works on free drivers to get wifi out of the box. If you don’t, you need to go over to the Debian site and pull down the .deb file with the drivers you need from the non-free repo. Do that either on another computer and transfer via USB or plug your computer into ethernet and you’ll be going as quickly as it takes to type sudo dpki -i [driverfile].deb! Finally, be prepared, as a distro based on Debian stable it will age. So you will probably want to get a large share of your applications from Flatpak, Appimage or Snaps. Not the worst thing really: an excellent, pure and super-stable base on top of which you run more up-to-date sandboxed apps running on their own dependencies. Great job Purism! Источник |
