Quake steam windows 10

Ok, I figured it out. The game will basically run either on one or another video cards installed on a computer. If you have an intergrated graphics card for example (Intel card) along with a NVIDIA video card, you will have to disable one or other for it to work. It appeared to work under NVIDIA card but not the Intel card.

The way I disabled it under Windows 10 was easy.

Go to the (C:) drive
Program Files
NVIDIA Corporation
Control Panel Client
NVCPLUI.exe

This will open up the NVIDIA control panel.

Go to Manage 3D Settings.
Go to the Program Settings tab

You will see the following:

(1) Select a programs to customize.
(scroll down and find Quake2.exe)

(2) Select the preferred graphic processor for this program.
(scroll down and pick High Proformance NVIDIA processor (or the one that will work for the game).

That should fix the problem.

sorry but the last 30 posts on this forum is the same S*%T all the time.»How to run this game, it crashes on windows 8/10″ just read the lastest news posted on the news tab. I wish i had admin rights here. I could just make the news post sticky on the forums. all you need is a sourceport; just like any other old-ass game

you don’t need a sourceport. all he had to do was tell it to use the nvidia gpu instead of the integrated. that simple. If you don’t want to read the post, ignore it.

thanks for posting the fix sgtwode, it might just help some other poor soul who has the issue. I’ve never had a computer with integrated graphics, so I wasn’t sure how you selected the proper one.

Avrete sicuramente notato che avviando Quake da steam vi saranno apparsi le seguenti scritte:

I primi due fanno parte di Vanilla quake, ossia la versione originale, rispettivamente Singleplayer e multiplayer, mentre la Versione GL si riferisce a una versione rilasciata anni dopo per computer quali windows 98,2000,xp. Fortunatamente a noi non interessano, quindi possiamo ignorarli completamente.

SCARICARE IL CLIENT

No non preoccupatevi, per client non si intende piattaforme come Steam, Gog e amici simili, ma al sistema su cui si appoggiano le varie mod (sempre se ne vorrete mettere).

Per prima cosa recatevi sul sito https://icculus.org/twilight/darkplaces/ e premete su Download

Qui vi troverete di fronte a tre scelte sotto Last stable/official release:

la versione che interessa a noi è la terza: DarkPlaces engine Windows 64 OpenGL (sempre se avete un sistema operativo a 64bit, altrimenti dovrete usare il secondo)

Ora, andate nella destinazione del vostro file scaricato e apritelo (si presenterà come uno ZIP). all’interno troverete i seguenti file:

copiateli tutti, e inseriteli nella cartella di gioco (io sto usando la versione su Steam, ma si può fare con qualunque versione).

(io l’ho già installato, quindi i file sono già presenti). in caso NON abbiate paura di sovrascrivere i file, è tutto normale

Finalmente si può partire! Ora per avviare il gioco dovrete farlo sempre da darkplaces.exe

Il primo avvio può essere un po’ lento, non preoccupatevi.

se graficamente il gioco vi risulta troppo «vecchio» e volete fare un upgrade, vi basterà scaricare questo file [icculus.org]

ed inserire il contenuto del link nella cartella id1
