When I ran the HP Support Assistant «Updates and tune-ups» on the 30 June 2015, it detected the following update: —

• Qualcomm Atheros QCA9000 Series Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows 8 (SP60642)

But, when the file had finished downloading a black X appeared by «Installing» after a few seconds and so I visited HP.com website to check the «Driver-Network» section for the new file and found the following update: —

• Qualcomm Atheros QCA9000 Series Wireless LAN Driver for Microsoft Windows 1.00 Rev.A Jun 2, 2015 (SP63733)

However, when I ran the Support Assistant after installing (SP63733) it still detected that (SP60642) is the latest driver, but the driver will not install.

I find your post some what confusing as you stated after installing the updated driver the HP support assistant does not recognize it and will not install it.

If you check Device Manager what is the current version of the installed driver?

If the updated driver is installed and it is just the HP Support Assistant that is not recognizing it, uninstall and reinstall the HP Support Assistant .

If it did not install and the HP Support Assistant and the driver is not installed try the same step of uninstalling and reinstalling.

Have you checked for viruses or malware? MS Malicious Software Removal Tool

Do you have any firewalls or anti-virus program that may be hindering the installation?

Have you tried installing the driver is safe mode? HP PCs — Windows 8 Safe Mode

You could also try updating the driver directly from Device Manager by right clicking on the device and choosing update driver.

When I purchased the Laptop is came with Windows 8 , which I have now updated via the Store to the latest version of Windows 8.1 and looking in the Device Manager the, » Qualcomm Atheros QCA9000 Series Wireless LAN Driver » is listed as: — » version 10.0.0.308 [11/12/2014 ]».

The update which the Support Assitant is now showing whenever I run the Hardware & Drivers scan is: —

Also I have Norton Security 2015 installed on the Laptop.

If you check the sp63733 details it is a revisions of the driver released Oct. 3,2013.

The version you listed was released at a later date.

Did you try installing the update in Safe Mode?

Did you try turning off your Norton’s while you did the installation?

Are you having any issues with your wireless?

If you are not having an issue with the wireless, I suggest you just leave it.

If you have tried all of my suggestions and you are still unable to install the update then I suggest doing a recovery back to factory.

You could try a HP PCs — Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows . This will reinstall the original operating system but should not affect your personal files. I do suggest doing a backup, just to be on the safe side.

Next would be to do a full recovery back to factory.

If you have not previously done a backup you will note that option during the recovery process. I would suggest you do one if you have not yet done one.

The only wireless problems I sometimes have, is when the Cable Modem drops the connection to the Broadband Server.

I have tried to stop Norton’s from running via «Task Manager», but when I click on «end program» it does not shut down and it will still run even when I do a Clean Boot of Windows 8.1.

I think the problem may have been caused by HP Support Assistant being Version (7.4.45.4), because when I could not locate the setup file to re-install the program after un-installing it, I did a search on the Internet where I found on the HP website: — HP Support Assistant Version (7.7.34.34) and it did not detect there was an update for the wireless card.
