Help!! When I updated to Windows 10, my Wi-Fi quit working. I have a good Wi-Fi connection for other devices in the house. In network & security, I can only see the ethernet option. I can see the Wi-Fi adapter is the Ralink RT-3290 802.11 bgn wi-fi driver which is a windows 7 driver. I tried updating the drivers in the HP assistant but the reply is that I have the latest drivers (that HP has. ) I have looked everywhere and am unable to find the windows 10 driver. Thanks everybody. Jim

Here is the W10 driver for that model wifi card.
If it doesn’t get the wireless to work, I suggest you purchase an external USB wifi adapter that has support for W10.

Thanks so much for the info.
When i ran the .exe file you provided, it set up the C:SWSETUP folder. I wasn’t sure what to do with the folder but ran the setup.exe. It started to execute then just went away. I restarted my computer just in case it worked but no luck with a wireless connection coming up in the Network&security and same ol drivers present on my system.
1) is there a different way I can get the drivers updated using that SWsetup folder files?
2) Am I stuck having to buy a new PCI card and win 10 drivers because HP failed to support a fairly new HP desktop?
3) Any suggestions on which type of wi-fi card and drivers I should buy that will work plug and play

when i have connected to the network sometimes its automaticaly disconected. it shows LIMITED. not conected in the network bar. But the wifi network is working properly. full strength! Something weird going on here and my internet is no use!

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
I took a look at your HP Pavilion 15-n258tx Notebook PC Driver’s Page and I do not see any driver’s available for the Microsoft Windows NT Operating System.
Did you try to do a System Restore back to a time when there was no issue present?
Please try to uninstall the driver in the Device Manager using the following steps:
- Go to the Device Manager.
- Expand Network Adapters.
- Right click on all of the Network Adapters individually.
- Click Uninstall.
- Restart the Notebook twice.
If none of those work to resolve the issue for you, the only other thing I can do is give you the Microsoft Support Lifecycle. There is an FAQ’s section that may be of benefit to you.

It is not the NT operating system. I have selected that by mistakenly. Then i have posted a new post by correct it as the windows 10 OS. But u guys have removed the post that is corrected one and answered to the previous post. Problem still remains. I hope u will be able to find a solution for my notebook windows 10.

Hi there @pradeep777,
Thank you for letting me know that you have Windows 10 on your Notebook. In light of the new information, here is a document for you. Please follow all of the steps in the Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet document.
Have you tried to connect using Ethernet?
Does that connect fine?
Have you tried to do a System Restore to a date when it was working?
Have you done anything new lately? Windows updates? Downloaded a new program/app?
Are you receiving any error messages?
Is there a red X on the Network Adapter in the Device Manager?
Have you uninstalled the driver in the Device Manager as I suggested in my previous post? If not, please do the following:
- Go to the Device Manager.
- Expand Network Adapters.
- Right click on all of the Network Adapters individually.
- Click Uninstall.
- Restart the Notebook twice.
There is a Realtek RTL8723BE/RTL8188EE 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN Driver available that was updated on May 22, 2016. Here is the download for that driver: sp72517.exe.

I have followed the instructions as decribed and I have the latest version of the driver installed.
Stil I am experiencing sudden loss of wifi, sometimes my laptop will not connect for up to two days.
It is not a wifi issue of signal strength issue as my wife uses her Apple laptop without any of these issues during the times I am experiencing these issues.
This is reallyy frustrating and HP need to get this solved.
My laptop details are as follow:

I understand you are having issues with connectivity on your HP notebook. Don’t worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.
- Do you experience frequent wireless disconnects or has it stopped working completely?
- Have you updated the bios and the wifi drivers for the Realtek wifi adapter?
- Did you try to update the Wi-Fi adapter driver from device manager?
- Does it work with a Hardwired Ethernet connection?
For now please try these steps: It looks like a driver issue.
Please check if you are able to go online with a hardwired Ethernet cable connected to the computer. If you are, then please follow these steps:
- Right-Click on start button> click device manager> network adapters>then select the network adapter drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
- Check the box that states delete the software for this device.
- Then restart the computer and update the network driver from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-envy-15-j100-notebook-pc-series/5401187/model/7467668/driver. and install the Wi-Fi drivers for your PC.
Otherwise please simply do this:
Right-Click on start button> click device manager> network adapters>then select the network adapter drivers that are listed and right-click on it and uninstall the drivers.
Then restart the computer and check if you are able to connect to the internet.

На некоторых ноутбуках возможно подключение к wifi роутеру на скорости 54 мбит/сек. Чтобы переключить сетевой адаптер в режим «N» (75 мбит/сек, 150 мбит/сек) необходимо зайти в реестр Windows. Для этого нажать «ПУСК» и в поле «Найти программы и файлы» ввести команду «regedit» и нажать enter.

[Solved] Ralink RT3290 Driver Issues in Windows 10/8/7

Can’t get onto the Internet with your Ralink RT3290 Wi-Fi Adapter? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. This is probably a driver issue so you should try updating your Ralink RT3290 driver to the latest version.
Unfortunately it’s rather hard for a computer newbie to find and download the correct driver, not to mention install it manually on PC. So here we’ll show you how to update your Ralink RT3290 driver step by step.
How to download and update your Ralink RT3290 driver
You can download and update the Ralink RT3290 driver either automatically and manually:
Option 1: Download and update your Ralink RT3290 driver automatically (Recommended)
If you don’t have the time, patience or computer skills to update the Ralink RT3290 driver manually, you can do it automatically with Driver Easy.
Driver Easy will automatically recognize your system and find the correct drivers for it. You don’t need to know exactly what system your computer is running, you don’t need to risk downloading and installing the wrong driver, and you don’t need to worry about making a mistake when installing. Driver Easy takes care of everything.
You can update your drivers automatically with either the FREE or the Pro version of Driver Easy. But with the Pro version it takes just 2 clicks (and you get full support and a 30-day money back guarantee):
1) Download and install Driver Easy.
2) Run Driver Easy and click the Scan Now button. Driver Easy will then scan your computer and detect any problem drivers.
3) Click Update All to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out of date on your system (this requires the Pro version – you’ll be prompted to upgrade when you click Update All). To find out the correct driver, you should first get to know some basic information about your operating system. If you do know it, simply skip to Step 3; If you don’t, then read on.
1) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to fire up the Run box. Type msinfo32 and click OK.
2) In the System Information window, on the System Summary tab, you’ll see the overall information about your PC. Take note of these two items: OS Name and System Type. The combination of the two shows exactly what version of Windows you have.
For example, this is a screenshot of Windows 8.1 Pro (64-bit). And there’s one thing you should know: regarding System Type, “x64-based PC” stands for the 64-bit version; in contrast, “x86-based PC” stands for 32-bit.
3) After knowing the version of your Windows operating system, you should now search for the driver online. You can either find your own way to the official website of MediaTek, or you can simply click https://www.mediatek.com/.
4) There’s a search bar at the top of the website. Type RT3290, and then hit Enter on your keyboard.
5) Find RT3290 and click Read More.
6) Click on the small blue icon below Download Drivers.
7) Wait for the download process to complete, then navigate to the file you’ve just downloaded.
8) Open that file and double-click Disk 1 > drivers. If you’re using Windows 7, then go on to double-click Win7; if you’re using Windows 8, then double-click Win8 instead.
Unfortunately MediaTek doesn’t provide the corresponding driver for Windows 10, so if you’re using Windows 10, please turn to Option 1.
9) Make sure you open the right files based on your Windows version. In the end, you’ll see a file as illustrated below.
When you double-click devcon64.exe, you’ll be prompted to decompress the folders. Select Extract all.
10) Click Browse… to select a destination and check the Show extracted files when complete box. On completion, click Extract.
11) When the extracted file pops up, copy its file address.
12) On your keyboard, press the Windows logo key and R at the same time to open the Run box. Type devmgmt.msc and click OK.
13) In the Device Manager window, double-click Network adapters to expand the drop-down list. Then right-click Ralink RT3290 Wi-Fi Adapter and select Update driver.
14) Click Browse my computer for driver software.
15) Paste the file address copied in Step 11 onto the address bar, and then tick the Include subfolders option. After that, click Next.
16) Now Windows will search for the driver and install it automatically. When everything’s done, click Finish. Then restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
After all these steps, your driver for the Ralink RT3290 Wi-Fi Adapter should have been updated to the latest version. Please check the status of your Ralink RT3290 Wi-Fi Adapter in Device Manager. If there’s still a yellow warning icon next to that device, meaning your driver hasn’t been installed properly, you can try Option 1 to see if that can get you out of trouble.
