Realtek RTL8821CE Driver
This repository hosts the code for the Arch Linux AUR Package. It’s targeting Linux > 4.14 and is being developed for Arch Linux and Ubuntu 18.10. No support will be provided for other Linux distributions or Linux Kernel versions outside of that range.
The maintainers of this repository are not Realtek employees and are maintaining this repository for their own usage. Further feature development (such as proper power saving, etc.) will not be pursued here, but will be gladly integrated if newer driver sources are provided by Realtek. Use at your own risk.
This driver can be installed using DKMS. This is a system which will automatically recompile and install a kernel module when a new kernel gets installed or updated. To make use of DKMS, install the dkms package.
Installation of Driver
Make sure you have a proper build environment and dkms installed.
The following steps are required prior to building the driver on Ubuntu/Debian:
Ubuntu users may also install the prebuilt rtl8821ce-dkms package, an older version of the driver maintained by the Ubuntu MOTU Developers group for bionic, eoan and focal. It has been known to work in cases where the newer driver available here does not. Bugs and issues with that package should be reported at Launchpad rather than here.
Make sure you have the base-devel package group installed before you proceed for the necessary compilation tools.
Installing from AUR
Dependencies for manual installation on Arch Linux
If you are running a non-vanilla kernel then install the headers to match the kernel package. Proceed to the section below.
An unofficial Gentoo package is available, using this repository as upstream. It is available from the trolltoo overlay. Gentoo does not use or require dkms for packaged drivers.
Manual installation of driver
In order to install the driver open a terminal in the directory with the source code and execute the following command:
Removal of Driver
Open a terminal window and git clone the repository to your local disk
Then run the installation script:
Remove the driver:
Make sure you have your local copy of this repository fully updated:
Clean any stale binaries:
When reporting issues, please make sure that debugging is enabled. To enable debugging either set MAKEFLAGS=»CONFIG_RTW_DEBUG = y» before compilation or edit Makefile:
This will enable verbose debug logging, helpful to developers.
PCIe Activate State Power Management
Your distribution may come with PCIe Active State Power Management enabled by default. That may conflict with this driver. To disable:
Add pci=noaer at the end of GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. Line should look like this:
Then update your GRUB configuration:
Lenovo Yoga laptops
Some new Yoga laptops (like the Yoga 530) come with rtl8821ce as the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip. But the ideapad-laptop module, which may come included in your distribution, may conflict with this driver. To disable:
BlueTooth is not working
This may be due to the Kernel loading up the wrong firmware file for this card. Please take a look at @wahsot’s tutorial at https://github.com/tomaspinho/rtl8821ce/issues/19#issuecomment-452196840 to see if that helps you out.
If your system uses Secure Boot, disable it via BIOS settings, otherwise the kernel will not accept user-supplied modules.
Unstable connection — slowdowns or dropouts
The problem may be due to the periodic scanning of access points by the network applet.
This fix worked helpful on Pop! _OS/Ubuntu 20.10 and Fedora 33. Both with GNOME and NetworkManager. #179
Set the BSSID from your network applet. In GNOME this can be done in WiFi Settings > Your profile > Identity > BSSID .
We are going to disable the Connectivity Check option in NetworkManager. This by editing the file in /var/lib/NetworkManager/NetworkManager-intern.conf and adding the following instructions at the end:
Then, just reboot or restart the NetworkManager unit to fix the problem.
Wi-Fi not working for kernel >= 5.9
The Linux Kernel 5.9 version comes with a broken rtw88 module developed by Realtek that has poor compatibility with most revision of the 8821ce chip.
You must disable it by adding the following to your module blacklists ( /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf ):
Then, make sure you have the rtl8821ce module correctly installed.
Turn off your computer, wait a few seconds (to force firmware reload) and then turn it on again.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth don’t work after suspend
This is a bug that won’t be fixed until/if Realtek implements proper power management themselves. Given they are now only working in rtw88 , this driver will most likely never be fixed in this regard. Please avoid opening issues about this.
Monitor (promiscuous) mode doesn’t work
This driver doesn’t support it and never will. Please avoid opening issues about this.

I am having trouble with my internet speed with the N technology. When i try it with AC it works perfect.
I’ve just bought a brand new hp laptop model: 15-dy1751ms / hp serial number: 5cd9384dh6 with a Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe adapter. I do have an 60mbps internet speed connection which is pretty stable when trying with this or any other devices trough pinging it to 8.8.8.8 -t i wouldn’t normally get higher response than 40ms. When trying out speed test over the 5gzh i would get 65mbps per second at the end of the test. But when trying over 2.4GZH i would only get results in between 10 to 30mbps but no more than that.
I think i have try all the possible methods to fix this. At first about 2 weeks ago i went to the official hp’s driver’s page so i downloaded / Realtek RTL8xxx Wireless LAN Drivers/
Version: 2024.0.10.103/2024.0.4.108 Rev.S / Release date: Aug 22, 2019 / so i have installed this successfully but haven’t done any changes.
Fix and enhancements:

The card has issues, and Realtek is constantly updating drivers in an attempt to fix them.
Bear in mind though, that the maximum throughput of the card on the 2.4 GHz wifi band with an excellent connection on a sunny day, with a warm breeze, is 72 MBPS. It can go no faster than that.
You do not have the latest wifi driver installed. I don’t know if it will help or not, but here it is.
2024.0.10.210 Mar 2, 2020
These are the fixes the release notes indicate.
— Fixes an issue that occurs on a system connected to a Bluetooth speaker. The sound is delayed when the WLAN device is enabled or disabled in the Device Manager while the system is playing music from the Bluetooth speaker.
— Fixes an intermittent issue where the system cannot scan any access points after the system wakes from Wake on WLAN.
— Provides the DCH-compliant driver.
— Sets 5G as the default value for the Preferred Band setting.
— Improves Miracast performance when the system is connected to a Miracast adapter and a wireless access point (AP) at the same time.
— Improves the quality of a wireless connection on a system using an ASUS AX88U adapter.
If you don’t have the latest bluetooth driver installed, this would be the one you need.
1.7.1021.3000 Dec 6, 2019
— Fixes an issue where a Bluetooth mouse paired to the system does not function properly after the Bluetooth speaker/headset is changed to the HFP profile.
— Fixes an issue on a system connected to a Bluetooth mouse which causes an error symbol (yellow bang) to be displayed after the system is idle for a period of time.
— Enhances WLAN/Bluetooth coexistence.

I have a HP Notebook 14-dq1115no, and big problem with my RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe adapter WIFI card.
There is latency problem. Ex. web site stops loading for 2-5sec then it loads. High pings. and so on.
Same problem that many other have with this wifi card on this forum.
I’ve tried many drives and same problem, running latest driver v 2024.0.10.214
I have two questions, when will HP solve this latency problem?
Can I replace it with a Intel wifi card? If yes, what wifi card will work?

The Realtek 8822 and 8821 wifi cards are horrible. Lots of problems with them.
Since this is a peer to peer forum. no one can answer your first question.
I suggest you raise your concerns with the HP executive team at the link below.
That is the only way they are going to know that there are huge problems out there with those model wifi adapters.
As for your second question. here is the problem. The RTL8821CE was designed to work with one wifi antenna and that is all your notebook has.
Any of the Intel cards require two antenna wires for the wifi and Bluetooth to work properly.
So, you could replace the lousy Reatek card with the Intel AX200 non-vPro model but you will not have any Bluetooth.
You would connect the single antenna cable to the Intel wifi card’s Main antenna terminal.
There is a newer wifi driver for the RTL8821CE. 2024.0.10.216
Probably won’t make a difference, but you have nothing to lose by giving it a try.

Thanks Paul_Tikkanen for quick answer.
I tried driver v2024.0.10.216, but same issues remain.
Next step will be to buy a new Intel wifi card and replace RTL.
And buy a USB Bluetooth adapter.

You’re very welcome.
Just make sure you buy the non-vPro version.

I can confirm that Intel AX200.NGWG works fine.
All lag and freeze problem are gone. Very happy now!
Tips, to other user with this crappy wifi card, download intel driver before you replace card.
I had to do that because my computer did not have any Ethernet port or you can use a usb-drive.
I have spoken to HP Customer support to replace RTL8821x wifi card. The will note replace it with an another card. I’ve escalated this, hopefully HP will do something about problem, update driver (best solution).
Bluetooth does not work sine lack of antenna in computer.
So my next step is to find a Bluetooth antenna, there is plenty room inside computer to place an antenna. @ Paul_Tikkanen do you have any suggestion of a Bluetooth antenna?

Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11b/g/n/ac
Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11b/g/n/ac
Что сделано: перепробованы разные драйвера (в аналогичном ноуте видел драйвера от intel, я тоже попробовал разные варианты, но у меня ни один из них не встал, возможно в том ноуте просто был другой адаптер);
Dell Wireless 1702 802.11b/g/n
Dell Wireless 1702 802.11b/g/n .
Realtek RTL8191SU 802.11n подключение к Mikrotik
