Red BIOS Editor: Download & Manual

In this tutorial, you will learn how to set up and use the latest Red Bios Editor v1.0.7 and newer.

Download for Windows / Linux

What is Red Bios Editor?

— is a tool for changing some parameters in ATI BIOS. It focuses on timing, power saving and core overclocking settings as they are the most important for most users. BIOS modification is an alternative to using memory configuration utilities such as RivaTuner, ATI Tray Tools or ATITool.

Radeon RX 5500, 5700, 5700 XT, 6700 XT, 6800XT, 6800, 6900, RX 570,580,590,560, 470, 480 and Polaris family cards.

Features

  • Possibility of voltage modification.
  • Keeping PowerPlay intact / still working after overclocking. You can even enhance this power saving function as you see fit.
  • Change Overdrive BIOS signature to allow higher overclocking limit. Signatures can also be extracted and saved to a file.

You will need WinFlash to save and flash all BIOSes.

How to Use Red Bios Editor?

Step 1 — Download the program

Install the program following the standard instructions. Click «Next» everywhere.

Step 2 — Save the current BIOS

Make a copy of the current BIOS as described in the ATIFlash instructions.

Alternatively: use other programs like ATITool and ATITool и RivaTuner, they can also save BIOS from the card. However, these programs still have problems with the latest graphics cards.

Step 3 — Overclock the BIOS

Open the BIOS you saved in step 2. Press the «Load» button.

Select the previously saved BIOS version in the selection window:

Go to the «VRAM Timings» tab.

In the Memory Type field, select the type of video card memory.

Select the required timings and copy their values. Then click the «Save» button.

Use Polaris Bios Editor (PBE) to automatically find good timings.

You can also find a collection of ready-made BIOSes on the TechPowerUp website.

Also set up PowerPlay. Click the «Load MPT File» button and load the file created in the MorePowerTool program.

RBE — Radeon BIOS Editor

RBE is a handy tool to modify several interesting parameters in ATI BIOS files. It focuses on fan and clock settings as these are the most important things to most users. BIOS modification is an alternative to using memory resident tweaking utilities such as RivaTuner, ATI Tray Tools or ATITool.
But RBE can do more than that: It will balance the BIOS file’s checksum, lets you modify the Overdrive settings, enables superior PowerPlay functionality for some video cards, contains a CCC profile editor for hidden features of the CCC and much more.

Main Features

  • Can display and change a lot of information strings inside the BIOS file, including Device ID and vendor ID.
  • Accesses every PowerPlay state and can change GPU clocks, RAM clocks and voltage for each of them seperately.
  • Displays the PowerPlay structure of the BIOS.
  • Also displays the voltages the card can make use of.
  • Can graphically display and modify four different fan controllers in a very comfortable way and automatically figures out which controller is used for a particular BIOS.
  • RBE modifies the Overdrive signature of a BIOS to enable a higher overclocking limit. Signatures can also be extracted and saved to a file.
  • Will make the annoying spin up bug some cards have vanish.
  • Enables superior PowerPlay.
  • Contains a profile editor for accessing hidden CCC panel features.
  • Acquires and flashes BIOSes all from within RBE using the built-in WinFlash interface.

Due to a digital signature requirement on latest AMD cards, RBE is no longer in active development and will not support the latest graphics cards.

RED BIOS EDITOR and MorePowerTool for Polaris, Navi and Big Navi (Stable Versions)

4. BIOS-Flash

Now comes the last and yet no less important step, namely flashing the newly created BIOS back onto our card. This is necessary, because the Adrenaline driver since 2020 extremely restricts the execution of the SPPT stored in the registry. Whoever sets the PowerLimit, the clock or voltages too high will be punished with a GPU clock of 300 MHz which can no longer be raised. In order to circumvent this deliberately built in hurdle, only the PowerPlayTables, which are permanently stored in the BIOS, help.

Even if the checksum is correct, you still need a signed BIOS in the normal way. Since the RBE cannot provide this, also for legal reasons, we have to use a Flash tool that ignores this signature or does not test it. Furthermore, the graphics card in question must also be technically supported. Currently, only the Radeon RX 5700 and the RX 5700 XT(X) can be flashed with the tool linked here from the WWW. For the RX 5600 XT this flash tool would have to be adapted. Unfortunately, the Radeon RX 5500 XT is still completely excluded from this tools.

You have to download the Flash-Tool linked below. Afterwards start the command line window with “cmd” as administrator. Otherwise it does not work. Then change to the directory where the flash tool and the new BIOS file are located. To be able to flash at all, we first have to unlock the ROM. This is done, shown below, with the call parameter “-unlockrom” and the adapter number (here the first graphics card found is e.g. “0”).

Then we call up the flash tool again with the appropriate parameters and start the flash process. Attention! Flashing is at your own risk and can lead to a bricked BIOS if not done properly or if interrupted during the process. In this case, only a second, additionally operated graphics card will help.

After flashing, the computer must be restarted. We can already admire the new data in GPU-Z. In this case I had set the boost clock a bit higher. Now the value is no longer 1925 MHz, but 2104 MHz. In real terms the card reaches 2050 MHz with the right cooling.

But this is only the beginning, because everyone can still do some fine tuning, because finally I have also set new limits for the Wattman

5. Checking results and overclocking in the Wattman

Let us first look at the initial situation before the BIOS flash. 1250 mV and 2039 MHz were maximum possible with GPU tuning, the power limit was at maximum +50.

Now we look at Wattman after the BIOS Flash and with a little more room in Wattman. 1250 mV at 2121 MHz and 60% power limit. However, I would like to point out again that this is not a replica setting, but only shows exemplarily what would be possible if you proceed according to the terms of use for the software.

Beta-Versions

The MPT is becoming more and more complex and the number of users is also increasing worldwide. Exactly there, however, registry interventions or the reading of certain parameters are often enough dependent on very many individual settings of the end users and their operating systems. While there are occasional bugs and constructive feedback, some of the newly implemented features are simply too important or special to really guarantee a stable operation on the broadest level right away.

We don’t want to offer you unfinished software and pretend that it’s the end user’s fault if it doesn’t work. That’s why we want to kill two birds with one stone with our beta program, because there you can find the current beta versions, in which you can find all the features that have just been added. Let’s just call it stability program and playground for the curious. If you want to be sure, choose the previous presence, where you can also find the download of the other programs.
