How do I determine RHEL version?
To display the Red Hat Enterprise Linux version use any one of the following command/methods:
- To determine RHEL version, type:
cat /etc/redhat-release - Execute command to find RHEL version:
more /etc/issue - Show RHEL version using command line, run:
less /etc/os-release - Another option to get Red Hat Enterprise Linux version:
less /etc/system-release-cpe - RHEL 7.x or above user can use the hostnamectl command to get RHEL version

Another option is to run lsb_release command. However, you need to install a package named redhat-lsb-core using the yum command as follows
sudo yum install redhat-lsb-core

Red Hat Linux — популярный ранее дистрибутив Linux компании Red Hat. Выпускался в период с 1995 по 2003 год включительно. Ранние версии дистрибутива также носили названия Red Hat Software Linux, Red Hat Commercial Linux и Red Hat LiNUX. На основе Red Hat Linux был создан ряд других дистрибутивов, в том числе Mandriva и ASPLinux. Последняя версия Red Hat Linux была выпущена в 2003 году. В 2004 году Red Hat официально прекратила поддержку Red Hat Linux. [1] Пользователи могли мигрировать либо на коммерческий Red Hat Enterprise Linux, либо на бесплатный Fedora. После окончания официальной поддержки проект Fedora Legacy некоторое время выпускал неофициальные обновления для Red Hat Linux, пока сам Fedora Legacy не был закрыт в феврале 2007 года. [2]
