Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a first-person shooter video game published by Activision, released on November 19, 2001 for Microsoft Windows and subsequently for PlayStation 2, Xbox, Linux and Macintosh. The game serves as both a remake and a reboot to the Wolfenstein series. It was developed by Gray Matter Interactive and Nerve Software developed its multiplayer mode. id Software, the creators of Wolfenstein 3D, oversaw the development and were credited as executive producers. The multiplayer side eventually became the most popular part of the game, and was influential in the genre. Splash Damage created some of the maps for the Game of the Year edition. A sequel, titled Wolfenstein, was released on August 18, 2009.
Game is played from the first person perspective, where the player’s task is to perform a retrieval missions, sabotages or assassinations. Player can be armed with a typical WW2 weaponry and can even use some fictional ones such as German-made miningun or Tesla gun. Player can also use stealth to eliminate the enemies, and some missions even force using it. Enemies vary from the standard soldiers to undead and experimental creatures. Health is replenished by collecting health packs and food. Armor also can be collected for an additional protection.
Multiplayer is an objective game mode, in which players are split into two teams – Axis and Allies. Each team has a set of objectives to complete, the Allies usually being to destroy some sort of Axis objective, and the Axis objectives being to defend their object(s). These objectives are split into two categories, primary and secondary. Primary objectives are ones which must be completed for victory, generally stealing secret documents or destroying a radar array; however secondary objectives are ones which are optional – they do not have to be completed, but if they are they may aid the appropriate team, such as blowing out a door to allow access into a tunnel which shortens travel time or allows less-noticeable infiltration of the enemy base.
Each team has access to a slightly different set of weapons, matching those used by each side in World War II. Players can choose from four different classes: Soldier, Medic, Lieutenant and Engineer. Soldiers can carry heavy weapons such as the Panzerfaust or Venom Cannon or Flamethrower which are not available to other classes, Medics can revive and heal other teammates, Engineers can breach obstacles and arm and defuse dynamite, and Lieutenants can supply ammo to teammates and are able to call in air strikes.
Each class specializes in a certain aspect of the game, and an effective team will balance players out using all four classes, such as a soldier for blasting through enemy defences, a medic for supporting the team and keeping them alive (Soldier making up for the lack of firepower with medics, medics making up for the lack of health), a Lieutenant to resupply teammates with ammo (especially soldiers) and engineers to complete the objective, having their way cleared by the soldier which is then supported by the Lieutenant.
There are three different modes of play, each allowing for a different experience – objective, stopwatch, and checkpoint. Stopwatch calls for the Allied side to complete a set of objectives within a predefined time limit. The opposing team then become the Allies and have to complete the objectives in a shorter time than the now Axis. Checkpoint gamemode is a mode in which teams capture flags. It may be more commonly known as Capture the Flag (CTF). Whichever team is first to control all the flags at once, wins. The team-based networked multiplayer features different character classes that must work together in order to win. There are four classes — lieutenant, medic, engineer, and soldier — the soldier can be one of several subclasses depending upon the special/heavy weapon that he selects. The multiplayer demo includes a beachhead assault map similar to Omaha Beach.

What is Return to Castle Wolfenstein?
In 943 AD, a German prince known as Heinrich dominated Western Europe with his army of undead and Dark Knights created by black magic. There was no one who could stand in his way — until a monk stopped Heinrich by sealing him in a deep underground tomb.
A thousand years later, in 1943 AD, the Second World War had started to go bad for Nazi Germany due to their defeats on the Eastern Front and in North Africa. The Chief of the Nazi SS, Heinrich Himmler, had been researching possible ways to win the war through science and black magic and read a few stories about the German prince Heinrich I and his Dark Knights, becoming interested in them, especially since they were so powerful. Heinrich Himmler believed that if he could bring Heinrich back to life, he could win the war for Nazi Germany. Himmler then founded an SS Paranormal Division and sent them to Northern Egypt in secret and hoped that they would find some ancient tablets.
Meanwhile, the Allied intelligence office got word of this and sent British Agent One and US Army Captain B.J. Blazkowicz to capture Helga von Bulow, a high ranking member of the SS Paranormal Division. They tracked Helga to an ancient tomb filled with the undead, but both the agents and the Germans escaped, including Helga. After this on March 15, 1943, Blazkowicz and Agent One were sent to follow her to Castle Wolfenstein, but were shot down by the Luftwaffe along the way and captured by the Germans.

RealRTCW 3.3, Enemy Territory demo & more
As Return to Castle Wolfenstein 20th aniversary approaches, we prepared quite a few releases to celebrate this event.
RealRTCW 3.3:
RealRTCW 3.3 Addons Pack:

Like this:
2) How to install addons for RealRTCW 3.3?
Like this:
First of all I want to introduce you the RealRTCW 3.3. This update finalizes the series of polishing updates I’ve been doing since the beginning of this year. Let’s get through the highlights.
Alternative fire modes for AR’s
You can now utilize your assault rifles properly with new fire-modes feature. Press MOUSE2(by default) to unleash power of the fast-firing BAR and FG42 or use MP44 for accurate shots with its one-shot fire mode.
Major recoil overhaul
This update also overhauls both real and visual recoil. Now it is less chaotic and much more smoother, without any visual glitches and hiccups. Hopefully, people who struggled with the recoil effect before, will like the new one better.
Further improvements of the weapon models
Following the Summer Update I finally finished replacing weapons models with new high poly ones. Legendary Kar98k is now replaced with a new shiny model. Hand positioning was improved for Sten, G43 and Thompson models too.
Improved controller support
This update introduces menu navigation for controllers and overhauled button layout. Now, RealRTCW is completely playable with the controller. At very least,It works on Xbox controller. Try it out and tell me what you think.
Buffed Flamethrower and Tesla
Remember the delay between unleasing the flames from your flamethrower on the enemies and said enemies actually start burning? Well, it’s gone. Enemies will almost insta-burn from the flamethrower fire now. Tesla damage was doubled as well. You can ask — but you increased Tesla Damage before, dont ya? Well, yes, but I’ve been using dead code chunk, so damage changes was not working at all. Now it’s working, for real.
For the full RealRTCW 3.3 changelog you can visit Files Section.
!Due to the core engine changes RealRTCW 3.3 will make your current savegames incompatible! Make sure to start the new game or use chapter selection menu!
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Single Player & Cooperative
Enemy Territory Single Player & Cooperative is set to be released exactly on RTCW 20th Aniversary date — 19th of November 2021. But before that, we decided to give you a sneak peak of whats coming.
The Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory Single-Player demo, consisting of the Gold Rush mission is available on ETSP mod page right now!
Castle Gothicstein
Castle Gothicstein is a major overhaul mod, which tries to bring new creepy feeling to RTCW atmosphere. Originally, it was made by Duchovicius, but at some point mod was picked up by AidenDemon, who also took part in RealRTCW development.
Castle Gothicstein current features:
Extended use of black & white color pallete with isolated red color.
Overhauled art style.
Four unique game modes: War, Famine, Pestilence, Death.
New weapons: Double-Barreled Shotgun, De Lisle, Welrod, Holy Cross, P38, Dagger of Warding.
Overhauled and rebalanced AI.
New soundtrack.
New unique enemies.
Veil foliants.
Castle Gothicstein has been in development for quite some time. I was helping AidenDemon with it’s development since 2019, when it was ported to RealRTCW engine. For now, we are still not sure about the release date. We really want to release it as Haloween event, but we are really busy with our real life stuff right now. So it might be delayed.
For now you can check out the Legacy Edition of the mod which will provide you the general understanding of mod concept. Here are some screenshots too.
The Victors
Victors is a total conversion RTCW mod with it’s own massive campaign.
Victors story is set in Soviet Ukraine during World War 2. You take the role of the Soviet intelligence agent Nikolai Kuznetsov from the partisan group named «The Victors». With it’s unique mapping style and brand new arsenal Victors are one of the most anticipated RTCW mods!
Mod was in development by Wolfmap.ru forum members since 2002(!). It was ported to multiple engines, but never reached it’s release due to various technical issues.
Recently, with the help of Eugeny Panikarowski I ported Victors to RealRTCW engine. It is completely playable and stable. But we still need to polish it a little bit. You can expect it to be relesed in the end of 2021 or beginning of 2022.

I guess that’s it for now. Stay tuned and Get Psyched!
