Xubuntu-ru.net

События Rise of the Tomb Raider разворачиваются после окончания истории, отображенной в комиксах, в частности Tomb Raider: The Ten Thousand Immortals, в котором Лара пытается найти артефакт, способный исцелить Сэм, умирающей от токсичной передозировки неких веществ, выпущенный Brady Games.

Rise tomb raider linux

Yes, I know the system requirements for this game: Ubuntu 17.10, GCN3 , Mesa 17.3.5.

Well, I have 16.04 LTS with Kernel 14.3, a GCN 4th generation graphics card (RX460 5GB) and Mesa drivers 18.0.1 from Padoka PPA:

After first start «System does not support 3D API required by this game!» appeared. Vulkaninfo said the vulkan driver is not started cause of incompatible drivers. I then installed vulkan drivers via

and it worked. YESSSS! So this game is running with Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS, Kernel 14.3, Mesa 18.0.1 and Vulkan enabled — on my lower end passively cooled RX460 graphics card and AMD 7850K Kaveri CPU (32 GB RAM)! And not even bad: with mid range settings on 3440×1440 the included Benchmarks showed 25 FPS average which is already playable!

Thank you, Feral for this good work! It even runs on lower system requirements. Vulkan is so great! 🙂

Yep, it works pretty well on lower configurations. As for me I use KDE Neon based on Ubuntu 16.04 with a Pentium G4620 and a GTX 1060 ; I get a pretty good framerate (benchrmarked at 57.5 FPS) on very high details (1080p).

Great work, Feral !

Hmm, BTW, I get 6 more FPS when not using the «Force compositon pipeline» option in the NVIDIA drivers.

Edit : ah, actually, this is only because VSYNC is forced with the option 🙂

I wonder that I don’t gain/lose many FPS on most setting changes. E.g. lowest or highest hair of Lara. Or details of textures, models or tessalation.

Too weak: AMD 7850K quad core 3.7 GHZ?

I don’t care -it looks good and is very playable for me! 🙂

Running Mint 18.3 XFCE which is based on Ubuntu 16.04 and am also happy to report game seems to be running flawlessly eventhough my system does not meet the minimum requirements at any level.

A Big Thank You Feral for this Awesome port. My aging system sports an old Intel Quad Q9550 with 16GB Ram and only major upgrade was the nVidia GPU GTX1060 6GB using the propriertary 390.48 driver. Getting an average of 60fps when running the built in benchmark. Very playable and smooth, can’t wait to finish this game!

My only wish now is that you could give your other port of Deus Ex — Mankind Divided the same treatment so that those of us whom don’t meet the minimum hardware requirements like myself can also enjoy the game thanks to vulkan and your excellent porting work!

Guess I should try hold back now on supporting the devs of the huge database of games being ported to linux and put that cash aside for a decent hardware upgrade to properly enjoy my ever growing library even more 🙂

Much, Much thanks again Feral and team. Please keep them ports coming, we really appreciate it!

Same here, Mint 18.3 (Ubuntu 16 base) with custom kernel, and xorg-edgers PPA (Mesa 18.0)

AMD R9 380 (4G)
Core i7 950 (3.02 GHz)

I haven’t played that long, but I’m pleased to say it at least works very well (we’ll see about stability. I can’t speak for that yet)

I am happy to be able to come here and say something nice about a game for a change. I appreciate this.

Slackware 14.2 with 4.4.118 kernel, nvidia 1060, Ryzen 7. Runs *very* well, performance is excellent. So far no problems at all.

On initial startup it complained about my OS, cpu and video card. I just ignored it. It runs great.

Tomb Raider

Unfortunately save files are not compatible between Windows and Mac/Linux due to some specifics of the save game format. Mac & Linux are compatible as both ports were developed by Feral

Ugh. That’s really unfortunate. I’m not sure I want to start all over again. I just don’t use Windows anymore so I stopped playing.

Why is this game so different from your other ports that can pass save games between the OSs — XCom for example.

Unfortunately the save game format was not portable to the Mac or Linux platforms in this case. Whenever possible we do support cross platform saves but in this case it wasn’t feasible.

Why is that though? To my knowledge, this is the same engine, same game. It should be more than possible to keep the save file format the same across all versions of the game. If I recall correctly, PC saves were zlib compressed. That should not affect anything though.

Xbox 360 (Multiplayer) save games are compatible with PC (must have endian swap BE->LE). At the very least, the Multiplayer saves should still be supported since they’re less sophisticated.

You guys should have added Zachary Levi Multiplayer character as an exclusive to promote the Linux/Mac ports. He’s still left in the files, fortunately.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Linux System Requirements

With the ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ Linux release date set for April 19, Feral Interactive has finally shared more details on the sort of system needed to run it.

And if you’re reading this on anything less than a “mid-range” set-up you’ll want to close the tab, lock yourself in Lara’s walk-in freezer and cry.

Why? Because the system requirements for Rise of the Tomb Raider‘s Linux port are almost as hefty as a thundering tyrannosaurs-rex from the lost valley!

Rise of the Tomb Raider: Minimum System Requirements

Below sit the “minimum specs” that Feral say you’ll need to run this critically lauded game in some sort of playable fashion.

Do keep in mind that if your system is below these specs then Lara will likely spend more exploring loading screens and error prompts than the antiquated landscapes of ancient Sibera.

  • Ubuntu 17.10
  • Intel Core i3-4130T or AMD equivalent
  • 8GB RAM
  • 2GB AMD R9 285 (GCN 3rd Gen or above); 2GB Nvidia GTX 680
  • 28GB storage

If, however, you’re lucky to carry a well-equipped system in your proverbial backpack, as listed below, then you can look forward to (hopefully) smooth gameplay, high frame rates, and cracking adventure:

  • Ubuntu 17.10 (or later)
  • Intel Core i7-3770K
  • 12GB RAM (or more)
  • Nvidia GTX 980Ti
  • 28GB storage

As we mentioned in an earlier report on this release Rise of the Tomb Raider for Linux supports the Vulkan API. If your hardware doesn’t support Vulkan you can’t play this game (at least, not as intended).

So if you use an Nvidia graphics card you’ll need to be using the proprietary driver at version 396.18 (or later, depending on when you read this post).

If you use an AMD graphics card you’ll need to use Mesa 17.3.5 or later, while Vega graphics cards need Mesa 18.0 or later.

AMD GCN 1st and 2nd generation graphics cards are not supported, neither is Intel graphics cards — sorry to dash any hope you had of plundering ancient cities and frozen forests on your cheap’n’cheeful $249 laptop!

Have you bought Rise of the Tomb Raider for Linux? Will you playing it on release day? Or will you have to resort to watching other gamers’ Twitch streams for your fix of Lara Croft’s latest exploits?
