Create Quasi-Stretch-Free UV Maps from 3D Meshes

RizomUV RS is a full-featured UV Mapping application, with features surpassing most offerings currently on the market. Whereas its sibling, RizomUV VS (Virtual Spaces), is for CG, RizomUV RS (Real Space) is our UV Mapping application for manufactured products needing real-world coordinates. It is dedicated to engineers and designers specialized in real-world applications such as laser surface texturing, pad printing or in inflatable structures design. It has been designed as a CAD application, in which the UV space plays as an engineer sheet, containing UV mappings automatically generated from your original 3D model and your guidelines.

Speedy Workflow

It doesn’t matter if you have a complex mesh, or a mesh full of non-quads. RizomUV doesn’t care about this. It can flatten +1M poly models with real-world measurements into perfectly flat, non-overlapping maps fastly.

1:1 Stretch Heat Map

Stretch matters – especially in CAD. That’s why we’ve taken pains to make sure our stretch heat map displays accordingly to your needs. RizomUV RS considers neutral stretch when the 3D lengths equal the UV ones. In presence of a difference in lengths between the two spaces for the same element, you’ll notice it immediately.

Low Stretch UV generation

RizomUV use advanced algorithms to create almost stretch-free UV Maps using energy minimization methods, like the ones used in finite elements software. If your 3D surface is developable, you’ll get zero stretching at all in your UVs. With a curved surface, you’ll get the lowest stretching possible.

BigTIFF UV Stamp Export

Most classic file formats use 32bit offsets and, as such, are limited to 4 gigabytes (65,535×65,535 pixels), which can be limitating. RizomUV Real Space offers BigTiff export format, that can handle huge images, breaking the 4 gig boundary, and so creating UV stamps at extremelly high resolution, such as the ones necessary for laser texturing processes.

Local Edition

RizomUV proposes many local edition tools, like stretch reduction brushes with masks, deformation box, proportional transformation, real time deformation, several dozen of alignement tools, and several mesh segmentation tools.

Constraints

Giving low-stretch UVs is often not enough. Some projects need to get the lower stretch possible under specific constraints such as vertex pinning or edge orientation. RizomUV will propose you everything you need in that domain too.

Do I need VS or RS?

Pick RIzomUV RS if the UV Maps you need to generate will be used as unwraps and guides for Real World Objects. Unlike in RizomUV VS, RizomUV RS will rescale the UVs to fit into a unified square, as well as retain the real dimensions and scale of your object. As an example, should you unwrap a 4x4m^2 plane in RizomUV VS, the plane will be rescaled to 1x1m^2 in the existing UV space. In RizomUV RS, the plane will retain its dimensions, 4x4m^2 in the exisitng UV space.

Can RizomUV RS do everything RizomUV VS does?

Absolutely. And you can even use RS as if you were using VS at the click of three buttons: You can easily enter RizomUV VS mode by disabling the 1:1 mode button in the Unwrap Panel, click Autofit if you need, and also switch from Packing Panel, and switch the Heat Map to Island. Stretch mode.

Our networking licenses are distributed in a very usual way. We provide you with a license server software (LM-X from x-formation), and a license file that contains a number of tokens that can be distributed in your local network. Each time a user launches one of our software product, a token is checked out, each time the software product is closed (or even crash), the token is released. If your license allows X tokens, then X clients will be able to run the software simulteaneously.

Note that this page provides the minimal steps required to setup the license system, both on server side and client side. However, you can find here more detailed information about our licensing system software if you would need it.

1 – Install LM-X end user tools

Download and install the server software and its tools on your server machine using appropriate installer depending if you want to run the license server under windows, linux, or macOS.

Check “Install LM-X license server” and using the “Browse…” button, specify the location of our Rizom-Lab vendor library that you can download there:

2 – Get the ethernet address of the machine that will be used as a license server

You should have a 12 hexadecimal length string that looks like this one: 52H62B1BAH52 TIP: To get the server ethernet address, you may use the tool lmxconfigtool, which is included into the LM-X End-user Tools package and present into the license server installation directory.

3 – Tie your license to the license server machine and download your license file

Go to your account and use the “SET” button of the “HostID” field to set the ethernet MAC address of your license server machine. Then click the download button to get your license file. TIP: If you don’t see any floating license in your account it is because either you don’t have purchased any license yet, or because your reseller did not transfer your license yet to your account, or because you are logged using a wrong account.

4 – Copy the license file (.lic) into the license server machine’s hard disk

Simply copy the license file on your machine server’s hard disk.

NOTE: DO NOT INSTALL THE LICENSE FILE ON THE CLIENT MACHINES. The license file must be installed on the server machine only.
5 – Specify the license file location (.lic) in the lmx server config file LMX-SERV.CFG

In the server configuration file lmx-serv.cfg, which can be found in the directory where you installed the license server, add a line like this one (for windows, for unix os, use forward slashes):

6 – On each client machine
NOTE: DO NOT INSTALL THE LICENSE FILE ON THE CLIENT MACHINES. The license file must be installed on the server machine (see above).

Download and Install the last RizomUV release that you can find here , then set the environment variable LMX_LICENSE_PATH so that it contains the communication port and the ip of the server, e.g:

Don’t forget to set that variable for all users of the machine so that all of them can use the software.

7 – Verify that all involved firewalls have their port 6200 open

Check that port 6200 is open on both direction and both on server and client machines for tcp and udp protocols. Notice: You can change the TCP port to another value than 6200. But the UDP must be the 6200.

Automatically cut and segment different kinds of meshes

If symmetry is enabled, and if your model is symmetric, the generated seam network will also be. This character model has been cut in a single mouse click using the new Hierarchical Autoseams feature. This feature, looks for the simpler seam line network that open your mesh without segmenting it into several separated parts. After being unfolded, you’ll get the well-known flattened shape like the one below.

PACK
New packaging algorithm which highly utilizes UV space on a whole new level, at blistering speed

Massive mesh pack (+80000 islands, +700k polygons), packed in less than 15 seconds. Island’s holes and concave areas are filled recursivelly by smaller islands so that all the UV space is efficiently used.

INTEROPERABILITY
RizomUV Virtual Spaces loads and saves OBJ and FBX files. Material’s polygons groups, smoothing’s polygons groups, and polygons groups, are loaded, exploited, and re-exported.
To improve RizomUV’s integrations into studio’s pipeline, or your in house workflow, custom Lua scripts can remote control RizomUV from any other application, or even from a simple text editor, thanks to the script file monitoring feature. It is then so easy to add to your favorite 3D app, custom press buttons to load and save (even launch Autoseams, Unfold, Pack …) to exchange mesh data and automatize partly or fully your unwrapping jobs.
