Frustrating, unusable

I was forced to download this after finding that my PC (at home) saved one of my excel files as a .PFILE… (note: without asking me to confirm, it did this. Strike one, microsoft)

After digging and finding this app and attempting to use it to open my file here, I found the app to be unusable. I have a solid internet connection and the app simply spins, without giving me any indication of what it’s doing. Now, I’m without my important files until I get back home to my PC. Very frustrating and damaging to my work.

I will be switching to Open Office 100% of the time after this. Unacceptable.

Worked perfectly

Read the whitepaper. Our Information Protection admin was able to secure a document which I was able to open without an issue after installing this applet. The program itself doesn’t seem to do anything except make the authentication connection to the Azure rights management system. Documents still open directly with the existing Office application and new documents have the option to use our org’s defined security levels.

Users who rate this low are likely not using the proper Office 365 Security license or don’t know what the program is supposed to do.

Does nothing

Was made to download this after being sent a protected file and it does nothing and I have no idea how to open said file now. Tried for my phone and computer. Nothing.

What’s new in RMS Viewer 1.3.2:

RMS Viewer is a free OS X application that allows you to open documents protected by Microsoft Windows Rights Management. The app offers a minimalistic user interface and very few functions to navigate the documents.

RMS document decryption tool for easy viewing on Macs

It is important to note that you need to enter your RMS Rendering Server account credentials (server name, username and passwords) before being able to open these types of documents.

The reason for this, as you may know, is that Microsoft created WIRM to encrypt common office documents that are designed to be used only on dedicated enrolled PCs.

Since users naturally need to access RMS documents on mobile devices, too, and not just the desktop PC, Microsoft provided a way to open them on other devices via the RMS Rendering Server.

Minimalist interface with built-in controls for navigating documents encrypted using the Microsoft Windows Rights Management protocol

Furthermore, the RMS Viewer application for the Mac acts as a simple client for accessing RMS Rendering Servers, and thus for viewing RMS documents.

After logging into the server, the RMS Viewer app decrypts and converts the document in order to be viewable on your Mac. If you have proper access, the document reveals itself to you. In addition, the document is stored on your device for later usage.

The RMS Viewer application features a plain-looking interface that helps you focus more on the contents of the document. It comes with standard navigational buttons on the toolbar at the top: next / previous page, zoom in / out and a drop-down menu to choose a document.

works great, but.

— and i didn’t like, that computer where i connect to, has to give permission first, which is not convenient

pls address these issues, and I will change to 5 starts.

I see people complain and see that it is just a wrapper, but i tried to find the original apple app, and i couldn’t 🙂

ok, figured out how to use the Remote Screen client without this app:
Go to Finder -> Go -> Connect to server -> vnc://ip_you_want_to_connect

this app is amazing!

this app is amazing!! that’s right. It does everything that its designed to do and without charging a dime! I looked at the other apps and they were charging ridiculous amount of money for something as simple as remote desktop. That’s crazy. Hats off to the developer for saving us some bucks!

Does what it says. Works between Linux and Macs!

I was trying to find an EASY way to remote connect between my home (Linux) and work (MacBook) Easier than the built in screen share app in Mac. Just pre-authorized VNC on my Linux input the IP address on the Mac and BAM. Done and done. Fast connection, too. Love it.

RMS Удаленный доступ — это продукт для управления удаленным рабочим столом, предоставляющий простой и безопасный доступ к PC в любой точке земного шара. RMS позволяет просматривать удаленный экран и управлять клавиатурой и мышью так, как будто удаленный компьютер находится непосредственно перед вами.

RMS состоит из двух основных модулей:

Модуль управления — Клиент

Модуль «Клиент» предназначен для подсоединения к удаленным рабочим станциям, на которых установлен Хост. Клиент предоставляет удобный UI для управления списком соединений, построения карты сети, поиска удаленных рабочих станций и управления ими в различных режимах.

Удаленный модуль — Хост «Хост» должен быть установлен на каждой удаленной рабочей станции, к которой нужно получить доступ. Этот модуль позволяет удаленно управлять компьютером, на котором он установлен. Возможна удаленная установка клиентских модулей, также имеется конфигуратор MSI дистрибутива Хоста.

Из единого центра управления вы можете подключиться к любому компьютеру в домене — через Active Directory, в локальной сети или же через интернет — при помощи Internet-ID.

Клиент

Клиент (Viewer) — это приложение, используемое техническими специалистами или администраторами для установки сеанса удаленного доступа. Viewer позволяет управлять списком удаленных компьютеров и устанавливать с ними соединение в любом из 15 доступных режимов.

Хост необходимо устанавливать на каждый удаленный компьютер (возможна удаленная и автоматизированная массовая установка). Он более универсален, чем Агент (см. ниже), и обеспечивает как контролируемый удаленный доступ, так и не контролируемый (т.е. доступ, не требующий присутствия человека за удаленным компьютером). Т.к. Host работает как системная служба, вы можете совершать любые действия с удаленным ПК без каких-либо дополнительных настроек, достаточно просто того, чтобы компьютер был включен и в сети.

Однако же, не смотря на то, что Host обеспечивает неконтролируемый доступ, есть возможность ограничить права доступа по режимам и настроить программу таким образом, чтобы при попытке удаленного соединения, удаленный пользователь должен был дать разрешение на доступ со стороны администратора.

Хост удобен, прежде всего, организациям с большим парком ПК и пользователям, которым нужен максимально возможный контроль над удаленными компьютерами.

Агент

Агент — это, по своей сути, облегченная версия модуля Хост. Данное приложение не требует установки и даже прав администратора на удаленном компьютере. Удаленный клиент просто скачивает данное приложение, запускает его и говорит техническому специалисту службы поддержки ID и пароль, которые отображаются на весьма простом окне программы.

Агент можно, специальным образом, заранее настроить, разместив там логотип вашей компании и указав нужный текст приглашения. Вы можете отправить клиенту ссылку на специально сконфигурированный Агент, размещенный на вашем сайте. Еще одна удобная особенность, которую можно заранее сконфигурировать — автоматическая отправка атрибутов доступа на ваш email сразу после запуска Агента. Таким образом, удаленному клиенту даже не придется сообщать вам ID и пароль доступа — они придут вам на почту автоматически.

Удаленный клиент может в любой момент прекратить сеанс удаленного доступа, просто закрыв приложение Агент. Если требуется постоянный удаленный доступ в режиме 24/7, лучше использовать модуль Хост (Host).

Агент будет полезен, прежде всего, для компаний, осуществляющий техническую поддержку своих пользователей через интернет.

Mini Internet-ID сервер

Mini Internet-ID сервер — это бесплатный, специализированный продукт, который будет интересен, прежде всего, продвинутым системным администраторам и компаниям, осуществляющим техническую поддержку через интернет.

Mini Internet-ID сервер повторяет функциональность нашей глобальной системы Internet-ID, предназначенной для работы удаленного доступа по ID, через NAT и сетевые экраны.

Данный сервер можно установить на любом компьютере, имеющим внешний IP адрес и настроить Host и Viewer таким образом, чтобы при соединении они использовали не нашу глобальную Internet-ID службу, а ваш выделенный Mini Internet-ID сервер. Это приложение устанавливается в виде службы и не требует больших ресурсов памяти или CPU.

Системные требования

Ни один модуль RMS не имеет каких-либо специальных требования к аппаратному и программному обеспечению.
Поддерживаются ОС семейства MS Windows 10/8/7/Vista/XP и Windows Server 2016/2012/2008/2003, включая 64x.
