Run roblox on linux

As of March of 2020, this script does not work with the latest versions of Roblox Player

This is because the game uses VMProtect anti cheat, which Wine causes it to detect tampering. No ETA for a fix is available. The only way for this to be fixed is if Wine upstream is able to support VMProtect to a high enough degree, or if Roblox themselves release a Linux build. The script itself will still install Roblox on Linux, but do not expect to be able to play online.

As of November, VMProtect is no longer the problem. The game launches and is playable for a few seconds before the client is kicked. Wine currently cannot solve the challenge packet sent by the server as an anticheat measure. The possibility of a fix still comes down to Wine’s capability to handle this particular anticheat measure in the future, or the Roblox devs providing official support.

There is a potential fix for this mentioned in this issue, which has been merged upstream. A future Wine update may resolve this issue.

This script is neither created nor officially supported by Roblox. It is unofficial and may be unstable. Use at your own risk. You should have Wine installed already. Install the appropriate version of wine from this page. I recommend wine-staging as it has the latest fixes and highest probability of working.

To install Roblox on your Linux computer from Git source, run the following commands in a terminal:

If you are saavy enough, you can also clone to a custom directory of your choice.

Roblox Linux Wrapper is very volatile, and updates are released very often, so please check for updates frequently.

• Open a terminal, change to the directory you installed.
• Run git pull inside the terminal while in that directory.

Diagnosing the game

Often times, a Roblox update breaks compatibility with the Roblox Linux Wrapper. Many of these changes will require an update to wine, which may come out months after the issue is introduced. In order to circumvent this issue, the wrapper now allows you to choose either wine or wine-staging, to allow you to use the release of wine that works best for you. It will ask you upon launching, and there is also an option labelled «Select Wine Release» in the launcher.

• If wine works fine, keep using wine.
• If wine-staging works, keep using it. Do note that wine-staging is pre-release software — you may encounter issues.

• A: Open Roblox Studio settings, change graphicsMode to OpenGL .

How to install Roblox Game on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Linux

Install Roblox Game on Ubuntu 20.04/18.04 LTS Linux

As it is a Windows program, thus to install it on Linux, we have only one option that is using Wine HQ, thus we won’t give any guarantee that it will work perfectly on your system, however, give it a shot just because it worked fine in our case.

The steps are given here will also work for the previous versions of Ubuntu such as 19.04/18.04/17.04/16.04 including Linux Mint.

1. Add Wine GPG key and repo

To install Wine HQ’s latest version on your Ubuntu 20.04 LTs Linux, first, add its GPG key, and then using the second command get the repository of Wine on your system.

Also, enable 32-bit Artchetecute support:

2. Run system update

To make sure our system has successfully recognized the newly added repository, run the system update command to rebuild the repo’s cache.

3. Install Wine HQ on Ubuntu Linux

Now, install Wine HQ, a Windows program loader for Linux operating systems.

4. Download Roblox Studio & Player launcher for Windows

We cannot download Roblox setup directly from the official website where it is available only in AppxBundle or UWP app format that only can be installed using the Microsoft store on Windows 10 or 8. Thus, here we will download Windows 7 version from some third-party websites such as Filehorse. (Don’t worry it will automatically get updated to the latest version once installed). You can use any other website as well. Here is the link to get the Roblox executable file on your Linux. Once the downloading is completed, you will get the RobloxLauncher.exe file in your Linux Download directory.

5. Install Roblox with Wine on Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

Now, simply right-click on the executable file and select “Open with Other Application” and then go for the app “Wine Windows Program Loader“.

6. Start the Studio installation Wizard

Before installing Roblox on Ubuntu Linux, the Wine will ask you to install Gecko and Mono installer for your system. Do that. Once the process is completed, the system will start the Roblox installation wizard and also upgrade the older version to the latest available one.

7. Allow Launching Roblox Linux Desktop icon

You will see the game icon on your Ubuntu desktop, to make it executable, right-click the icon and select the option “Allow Launching”.

8. Start this Virtual world Game

Double click on its shortcut icon to start the Roblox game on your Ubuntu 20.04 Linux.

9. Login

When it asks you to log in, do that to use it further, the new users can simply create a new account.

10. Uninstallation

In case you want to remove Roblox from Ubuntu then open the command terminal and type:

From GUI Wine Program removing window select Roblox and click the Modify/Remove button.
