Windows 8.1 / Windows 10
Windows.

After searching for a fix for the missing fonts i happened to stumble on the solution after someone mentioned changing the fonts in the ListFontGroups.xml file, the idea popped into my head that maybe with windows 10 those fonts are simply not installed anymore, to fix this problem simply go to (wherever you installed steam)\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Sacred 2 Gold\locale\en_UK and you will find 2 .ttf files, namely AntqSSK.ttf and ZabriskieScript-Bold.ttf, simply run them and click on the install button in the top left corner and there you go problem solved
EDIT
*FIST* Skyforger pointed out a really good point in that it only really helps people with english as the installed language, his post has information on fixing it for other languages, you can find it here
Well done OP. This fixed the issue.
Running, Win 10 Creator Update, i did a fresh install of the game. No Fonts.
Set in compatibility with Vista SP1, admin mode, and install fonts, the game start and run very well.
No problem, glad i could help
Your method is ok for English but not for the other languages.
I found an another way to fix this issue, OP. Regardless to the langage.
Maybe we can merge our threads to help the upcoming gamer in search for help.

Thanks mate. As i say in my topic, the game engine in set by default in english.
You can see that with the start screen with the oranges lines.
The first line say » Launch Sacred 2 Build 2.65 Language «xx_XX».
In the case where you have to download your native language, Steam only update the locale folder.
In result, the game engine search ressource for language, font that no longer exist.
That’s why you have to edit the content of optionsCustom.txt to run the game engine in your native language.
Once the language is set properly, the game find the correct ressource in Locale and run properly.
To be sure that my fix is correct, i managed to switch from FR to UK by editing optionsCustom.
Guess what ? No font, no sound, no Logo’s at start.
EDIT : Topic updated with screenshot to be easier to understand.
I See someone mentioned installing fonts amongst other things. I just wanted to point out a simple step I took that fixed all the fonts to reappear in menus etc.
Here are the simple steps:
1) Go to your Sacred 2 game folder and then under the subfolders /locale/en_UK (maybe US etc depending on your version)
2) There is a ListFontsGroups.XML file that listed two fonts being used: «ZabriskieScript-Bold» and «AntiquaSSK». You will also see these font installation files in this same directory. Double click on each of these font files and reinstall these two fonts. Your PC will most likely say that these fonts are already installed and do you want to overwrite them. Click YES and install.
3) Start up Sacred 2 again and it should be working.
I am not saying this will work for everyone, but it certainly worked for me and it was simple enough to do. You’re just reinstalling fonts that the game uses. Somewhere along the way Windows 10 installation upset this font somehow or maybe how Sacred two interacts with these fonts and by reinstalling the fonts, you are reconfiguring Windows to recognise these fonts again.

Right click on the Sacred.exe in the Steam folders. Check to «Run as Admin» and also «Compatibility for Windows 7» and that should help.
Also, are you running a computer with dual graphics cards (such as a laptop that has a built-in Intel HD graphics chip AND an add-on NVidia or AMD GPU)? If so, there is a whole other process you need to do to get the game to run because for some stupid reason Win 8 and Win 10 both ONLY USE THE STUPID INTEL CHIP by default, and the Intel chip was never meant for video games, only for checking email and maybe watching a DVD. Let me know if this is your situation and I will post the process for you.
THANKS, this worked for me. windows 10 64-bit OS just bought game today and was stuck on loading screen at fonts.
It runs on my win 10 when i used the Testapp.exe to start the Game.
Its in the Sacred Folder.
compat mode on xp and as admin, the default trobleshooter worked for me, THANKS.

Hmmm. very strange. Works fine through Steam for me, after I set the run as admin and the compatibility mode, and then I had to go into my NVidia (or AMD if you are running a Radeon) Command Center to force it to run on my 3d gaming GeForce card instead of using the crappy built-in Intel HD graphics..
Perhaps it is the location where you have your Steam files? Windows — by default — tries to install EVERYTHING into the «Program Files» folder on your hard drive, which is hard-coded by Windows to have all of its contents locked as «Read-Only» and you need special permissions to change any of the folder contents. Sometimes this iron-fisted control-freak nature of Windows over its Program Files folder can cause strange things to happen when you try to save your game, or when you try to run your game, or when you try to setup options in the config program before you run your game. For that reason, since Windows 2000 and NT first came out, I have intentionally avoided installing anything related to video games to the «Program Files» directory. Also, I am working with a small-ish hard drive on my system by today’s standards (but it was great when I bought it five years ago) so right now all of my gaming stuff is kept on an external drive. That way I can totally avoid issues with Windows being picky about «Program Files» and save space on my laptop’s hard drive for work-related stuff. Even then, I still get a «Would you like to allow «This Program» to make changes to your system?» message every time I try to run a game.
Windows has taken extraordinary measures to make everyone who uses their software feel like an idiot.
