Config.exe

Right click on the Sacred.exe in the Steam folders. Check to «Run as Admin» and also «Compatibility for Windows 7» and that should help.
Also, are you running a computer with dual graphics cards (such as a laptop that has a built-in Intel HD graphics chip AND an add-on NVidia or AMD GPU)? If so, there is a whole other process you need to do to get the game to run because for some stupid reason Win 8 and Win 10 both ONLY USE THE STUPID INTEL CHIP by default, and the Intel chip was never meant for video games, only for checking email and maybe watching a DVD. Let me know if this is your situation and I will post the process for you.
THANKS, this worked for me. windows 10 64-bit OS just bought game today and was stuck on loading screen at fonts.
It runs on my win 10 when i used the Testapp.exe to start the Game.
Its in the Sacred Folder.
compat mode on xp and as admin, the default trobleshooter worked for me, THANKS.

Hmmm. very strange. Works fine through Steam for me, after I set the run as admin and the compatibility mode, and then I had to go into my NVidia (or AMD if you are running a Radeon) Command Center to force it to run on my 3d gaming GeForce card instead of using the crappy built-in Intel HD graphics..
Perhaps it is the location where you have your Steam files? Windows — by default — tries to install EVERYTHING into the «Program Files» folder on your hard drive, which is hard-coded by Windows to have all of its contents locked as «Read-Only» and you need special permissions to change any of the folder contents. Sometimes this iron-fisted control-freak nature of Windows over its Program Files folder can cause strange things to happen when you try to save your game, or when you try to run your game, or when you try to setup options in the config program before you run your game. For that reason, since Windows 2000 and NT first came out, I have intentionally avoided installing anything related to video games to the «Program Files» directory. Also, I am working with a small-ish hard drive on my system by today’s standards (but it was great when I bought it five years ago) so right now all of my gaming stuff is kept on an external drive. That way I can totally avoid issues with Windows being picky about «Program Files» and save space on my laptop’s hard drive for work-related stuff. Even then, I still get a «Would you like to allow «This Program» to make changes to your system?» message every time I try to run a game.
Windows has taken extraordinary measures to make everyone who uses their software feel like an idiot.
Sacred windows 10 steam
Right so for those who read this and are unable to get it to work on Windows 10 here is a fix that i did, because you know this is an old game i mean who expects it to work just because Steam still sells it in 2018. oh wait nearly everyone leaving bad reviews about it not work.
1. Right click the game in Steam Library
2. Find the Application Sacred.exe
3. Use the right mouse button on it and click properties
I hope you can keep up with this so far i know it might be difficult to use your brain to follow instructions as well as try to fix it yourselves
4. Click on Compatibility Tab
4.1 Tick Run this Program in compatibility mode for (Windows XP SP2)
4.2 Run as Administrator
Now if you made it this far well done!!
Now go back to the game folder you are in and find another application called config and open it
Have these options TICKED
Full screen (if you want it full)
32bit Colour Depth
Video Compatibility mode
Sound Activated
And log File if you want one
Have these UNTICKED as they cause issues in Windows 10 for me anyways
Play Movies
Filter Active (don’t know if it does but i never had it ticked in the first place)
I’ll also leave this as a post in the game forums
This should fix it for most people on windows 10. Have fun.
PS. I know i have no grammar and probably poor spelling but i don’t care I’m just here to help more enjoy a classic game

1. Go to the sacred installation folder, look for Config.exe, then open it. In the window that will appear, check all the options (32 bit color, anti aliasing filter, video compatibility mode, play movies, fullscreen, play sounds) and click OK.
2. In the Sacred install folder, [you can access it by clicking Proprieties on Steam and then Local Files and then Show local files] find Sacred.exe and Config.exe, for these 2 .exe, click Proprieties and set them to Windows XP SP3 Compatibility, disable high DPI thing, run as admin. Apply in both and click ok.
3. Then go to your graphics card control panel (i have nvidia so here is how it’s done with nvidia cards), and go to manage 3D Settings, then go to Program Settings and select Sacred (sacred.exe) from the list, or load it manually from the install folder if it is not there.
Once you selected Sacred.exe there, go in the list below and look for GPU — CUDA option. In CPU — CUDA option, there will be «use this GPU and your GPU below, Nvidia [your graphic card model], select the Nvidia one and click OK.
After this it will probably work, worked for me when all the other guides failed.
Hope this helped you.
The guide is from 2016, in this time Windows Updates may have changed how the system works and so made this method no longer work.
I know no other solution and will keep the guide here as maybe for someone will still work.
Windows 8.1 / Windows 10
Windows.
