What is firmware? How do I update it?
Firmware is a tiny software program stored in a semiconductor chip, such as a NAND chip.
It includes the software code and commands necessary for operating a device.
Firmware is designed to be updated via software updates so that manufacturers can improve performance and quality of the hardware.
Samsung SSD’s Firmware can be updated via the Samsung SSD Magician software.
If you do not have the software CD came with the SSD, Magician can be downloaded from the Samsung website at
www.samsung.com/ssd or www.samsung.com/samsungssd .
How do I update the Firmware Update?
Samsung occasionally provides new firmware in order to improve SSD performance, compatibility, and user experience.
Firmware update is recommended whenever a new version is released. SSD drive and Model number are shown.
If you encounter any problem with the Live firmware Update feature and your SSD is 470 series, you can perform DOS-based firmware update utility via bootable CD/DVD/USB.

Question: Q: Use Disk Utility or Samsung Data Migration? Macbook Pro 13 inch Late 2011 — HDD to Samsung SSD
I’m removing my 500GB HDD on my 13″ Macbook Pro Late 2011 and installing a Samsung 500GB Evo SSD.
There are 2 common ways of cloning all the data from the HDD to a Samsung SSD.
Either using Disk Utility -> Clone or Installing Samsung’s Data Migration Tool.
What I want to know is what is the better way and why? Maybe there is no difference, but if there is, I would like to know if anyone has the answer?

I know that Disk Utility will create the recovery partition as well as copying your data to the new SSD. I do not know if the Samsung software will. I vote for Disk Utility.
Be aware that some users on these forums have experienced difficulties with Samsung SSDs. On Samsung’s web site there is no mention of Mac compatibility.

I just upgraded my Macbook Pro 13″ (Early 2011)
I replaced the 500GB drive with a Samsung 500GB SSD 850 EVO.
To copy my original hard drive I used:
Carbon Copy Cloner. It worked very good. I used an Anker USB3.0 to Sata 3 interface (from Amazon.ca) to connect computer to SSD drive via USB port.
Carbon Copy Cloner makes a clone of your drive including the recovery partition.
I then removed my optical drive and replaced it with a «AGPtek SATA 2.5″/9mm 2nd Hard Disk Drive Cady for $14.99 (from Amazon.ca).
This allowed my to install the original hard drive in place of the optical drive.
