Here is how I got my samsung ML-1520 to work.

Note: there are some steps I did that may not be really necessary. I indicated them with (?) at the end.

• Download and install Samsung Printer Drivers v3.92

• Download splix-2.0.0 from http://cl.ly/2A1A0c160P27/download/Splix-2.0.0.zip (This is an unofficial location, but the zip does not seem to exist anymore on the official site only a source tarball)
• Unzip Splix-2.0.0
• Copy pstoqpdl and rastertoqpdl from Splix-2.0.0.mpkg/Contents/Packages/target.pkg/Contents/usr/libexec/cups/filter to /Library/Printers/Samsung/UPD/Filters (I navigated there using Finder, you need to right click on some files and show contents)
• Copy ml1520.ppd from Splix-2.0.0.mpkg/Contents/Packages/target.pkg/Contents/usr/share/cups/model/samsung to «/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/Samsung ML-1520 Series»
• Make «Samsung ML-1520 Series» executable (?)
• Edit «Samsung ML-1520 Series

Change line *cupsFilter: «application/vnd.cups-raster 0 rastertoqpdl» to *cupsFilter: «application/vnd.cups-raster 0 /Library/Printers/Samsung/UPD/Filters/rastertoqpdl»

• gzip «Samsung ML-1520 Series»
• Make folder ML-1520 in /Library/Printers/Samsung (?)
• Copy contents of folder /Library/Printers/Samsung/ML-2160 to /Library/Printers/Samsung/ML-1520 (?)
• Rename /Library/Printers/Samsung/ML-1520/ML-2160.icns to ML-1520.icns (?)
• Plug in your printer
• Add printer and use driver «Samsung ML-1520, Splix V. 2.0.0»
• Now I was able to print!

Thanks Apple and HP for not supporting our printers.

Question: Q: M2070 Samsung scanner now won’t work with El Capitan 10.11.5

I have a Samsung M2070 laser printer/scanner and the scanner now won’t work with El Capitan 10.11.5, the scanner assistant just keeps closing while scanning, I’ve uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled but makes no difference. Any ideas?

I found this page on the Samsung website which offers drivers for OS X Yosemite, no mention of El Capitan, but might be worth a try.

if you haven’t already tried.

Were you able to scan on an earlier version of El Capitan, or have recently upgraded from an earlier OS.

In the Apple Support Downloads page the last Samsung Driver update was listed back in 2013.

And although it supports printing function it doesn’t seem to support the scanning side of things.

Samsung’s website lists two different variants.

Both have scan drivers for 10.5 through 10.11

Great. I see thats the US Samsung site, the UK site needs a bit of digging about till you get there.

but i did find it eventually. don’t understand why companies can’t make their websites a bit more intuitive after

all they are in the communications business.

many thanks for this and I’ve just installed that driver and rebooted the iMac however it still doesn’t work, you scan one page and the scan assistant ‘unexpectedly closes’ — it was working fine last week until I updated to 10.11.5 — I’ll try contacting Samsung.

Just remember there are two drivers available from the last page I linked you to.

One Printer driver which is about 8Mbs, and the separate Scanner driver which is about 52Mbs.

So if you click on the link in my last reply, scroll down to the Driver section, on the right-hand side

you will see Printing and Scan Driver, just under that to the right is ‘View More’ in blue

click that to get more options and you should see the Mac versions. you should get similar looking

pages from Chroots links too, hopefully they are of use to you.

Yes I did download the correct driver but still it wouldn’t work so I called Samsung and was on the phone to them for 45mins, they confirmed the latest version of El Capitan 10.11.5 is not compatible with the M2070W all in one printer — there will be a new driver coming out sometime in the future but they have no idea when. However they did talk me through downloading a different scan driver (Samsung Easy Document creator) for another of their printers which does work. When installing you need to check the box ‘to install without being connected to the printer’ then when it asks for printer type & model select ‘colour MFP’ and ‘model SL-C480’

Hi, i had the same issue. I’ve solved it as follows:

1. Delete all samsung printers from the System preferences

2. Using Printer Software Uninstaller application remove all Samsung software. Make sure the uninstaller app also removed

3. Reboot your Mac

4. Re-Install everything using official Samsung Printer Installer application, choosing printer from discovery, no need to specify not yours model.

At this time macOS Catalina printing to the Samsung M2070w will be supported through AirPrint.

Keeping checking the driver download page for forth coming 64-bit drivers.

Here is video with instructions for setting up an AirPrint printer.

I’m in a similar situation and have also posted separately.

The solution which had been proposed to my separate inquiry did not fully restore my printer/scanner capability, even though the HP associated S/W is listed as being 64-bit Intel.

I was asked to periodically check the HP Web Site for Mac OS X 10.15 updated HP S/W.

I have the same problem with the same series of Samsung printers. I checked the available drivers into HP site, but available are up to MacOS 10.14 only. I therefore think that we must wait for the driver update for MacOS 10.15, hoping not to wait for a long time.

I’d like to share with the community the following errors related to the captioned printers after installation of macOS Catalina:

when trying to print:

— «prefilter» cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software

— «rastertosec» cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software

— «commandtosec» cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software

when trying to scan:

— scanner device is not responding

Please find a guide to be able to install your Samsung printer in the new MAC OS 10.15 update. I hope this helps.

If not let me know, as of today, for scanning the easy document creator is no longer working.

Hi Jarz19, I followed the instructions of the PDF attached to your message and I was able to install the printer samsung xpress C480.

As far as the scanner is concerned the installation of both installation packages, ICDM & ScanThru, failed with the following generic error message: «the installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance».

Please note that I tried to install the scan drivers for different MacOS version, i.e. 10.14, 10.13, etc, all them with no success.

A a result in system preferences — printers & scanners, doesn’t appear the box for the scan option.

In conclusion I can now print but I cannot scan.

Even not 100% solved I’ve really appreciated your useful help.
