Screenlets linux mint

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:screenlets/ppa
$ sudo apt update
$ sudo apt install screenlets screenlets-pack-all

Screenlets linux mint
I just call them my little ones, but look at the official wording, what is the screenlet:
„Screenlets are small owner-drawn applications (written in Python) that can be described as «the virtual representation of things lying/standing around on your desk». Sticknotes, clocks, rulers, . the possibilities are endless.
The goal of the Screenlets base-classes is to simplify the creation of fully themeable mini-apps that each solve basic desktop-work-related needs and generally improve the usability and eye-candy of the modern composited Linux-desktop. „
I could compared with the Android system widgets. Small programs, applets, which are geared to a function, weather, letters to achieve, compass, map system features. Let’s see how we can activate them:
1. Install the Screenlets Settings Manager , if you have not yet done .
a. Menu > Software Manager .
b. The right search box enter » screenlets » .
c. Select group of Screenlets , and then click the » Install » button .
2. Go to Menu > Accessories > Screenlets program .
3. Here you can choose the little programs and run them by clicking .
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:screenlets-dev/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install screenlets
After installing the Screenlets daemon will be available in the taskbar at the bottom right side as well , and quickly became available in the Settings .
I made a recording of the desktop , which landed in a couple of programs :

During installation, in my Debian 8.0 Jessie, I’ve got the following depnedency error message….
To fix this, you need to install following package.

3. To add a widget to your screen double click it. You may add as many screenlets as you want. There is no limitation.

If you are in mint 19.1 you can install the screenlets-package from „yakkety“ :
May be you have to install some python dependecies to run some of the Screenlets.
….. but they will show you (when started) a note-window with hints, what is needed, to run them.
Some of the Screenlets wont run, and should be modyfied.
I did that and most of them functions now with my Desktop (Xfce)
The Screenlet, you are looking for runs out of the box and is named „slideshow“ .
Hope that will help you.

Hope you don’t mind me stepping in with another related question.
I’ve been away from Linux for about 20 years, so things are a bit unfamiliar. I’m also running LM 19.1 xfce and was wondering if you could expand on how you got Screenlets to work with xfce. The large print version with pictures would be great (I’ve been doing windows and my brain has gone all wrinkly).
I’m mostly interested in a clock, calendar, and weather. You mentioned some screenlets aren’t working. I hope these ones I’ve mentioned aren’t among the casualties.

If you also have the 64 bit version of Lm 19.1 xfce, then you can download the same packages as already mentioned in post # 2.
After you downloaded the two packages, first double-click on screenlets_0.1.7-yakkety_all.deb
(that is the screenlet-manager)
Then gdebi will open and you can install the package with click on the install-button.
After that do the same with screenlets-pack-all_0.1.7.2-yakkety_all.deb. (these are the Screenlets)
Then you can open the screenlets-manager from menu and start the screenlets you wish.
I can not really remember but i think that the screenlets : ClearCalendar, ClearWeather and ClockScreenlet will run out of the box.
So if there are problems on running them, open a new thread with your questions and i will have a look at my installed py-files.
