I can send emails but not receive them on Windows Live Mail
I use Windows Live Mail with Windows 8. This problem started suddenly. I get the message «no new emails» when I try to send a test email to myself. The Windows Live Mail settings are correct and I’ve had them double-checked by a third-party technical support service. My incoming emails are building up on the server and I cannot get them into my inbox. Profoundly grateful for any help.

Welcome to Microsoft Community forum. I understand that you need to receive emails. Let me help you with that. It is most likely that this is due to Windows Live Mail related files that became corrupted. As an initial troubleshooting steps, please repair your Windows Live Mail.
1. Press Windows + R, type AppWiz.cpl, click OK.
2. Select Windows Essentials 2012, click Uninstall /Change .
3. Click Repair all Windows Essentials Programs.
To isolate account issue, we request that you remove your account and re-add it in Windows Live Mail.

First I would like to acknowledge your kindness and courtesy in helping me with my request. I have undertaken the troubleshooting as requested and removed and re-added the account. The problem still persists. My answers to your questions are as follows:
When did the issue occur?
I think it occurred after I tried to log in with an incorrect password. This may be just coincidence.
Does the issue also occur in web?
Have you installed any new software recently?
Yes, Avid Media Composer 6.5.
Has anything changed on your system?
I have provided the affected email address in the private message area.

Have you been getting an error message? Please post the exact error message on your reply.
To isolate the possibility that Windows Live Mail has been corrupted, please try using another email client like Microsoft Outlook and check if it would work. Otherwise, you would need to uninstall then reinstall Windows Live Mail. You can download it here.
Furthermore, you can also contact BigPond for the correct POP and SMTP settings for Windows Live Mail.

I have not been getting an error message. When I press Send/Receive I get the green bar showing that emails are (in theory) being downloaded. After a long time, I then get the message “No new emails”. Yet I am well aware that there are emails on the server. There seems to be a glitch that makes Windows Live Mail unable to receive them.
I have used an Outlook email address with Windows Live Mail and it works fine. That is the email client I am using to receive your messages regarding this problem.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Windows Live Mail several times prior to contacting you, to no avail. The problem persisted.
I have had BigPond remotely access my computer to check my settings and they have confirmed that the settings are correct. Is there anything else I can do?

Please excuse my lack of knowledge. I am an older user who finds this all rather confusing. I hope I have correctly understood how to send an email using a web browser. What I did was to go to my Bigpond Webmail using Internet Explorer and send myself a test email. I received the message «Your message has been sent». Then I went to Windows Live Mail to see whether it could be received. It couldn’t. When I clicked on Send/Receive I got the message «No new email messages».
I have previously had Bigpond check all my email settings in Windows Live Mail and they confirmed that they were all correct.

In the meantime, I would like you to change your server settings for your email provider. Look on your email account provider’s website for the server settings.
1. Start Windows Live Mail.
2. Click the email account you need to change.
3. Click the Accounts tab, and then click Properties.
4. Click the Servers tab, type the information provided by your email service provider, and then click OK.
You might also have to change information in the Advanced tab.

Long before Outlook appeared, the go-to email client from Microsoft used to be Windows Live Mail. However, the client has been discontinued, and problems have started to arise.
There have been reported errors such as the impossibility to send emails: neither reply nor create new ones.
Knowing that you’re in a similar position, first, delete the failed message from the Outbox to clear the blockage. Once you’ve done that, feel free to check out some fixes below to finish the job.
What can I do if Live Mail does not send messages?
1. Use Mailbird
If you are constantly having trouble when using your Live Mail account, then switching to a new one would be a good idea.

2. Test spam filtering
The content of the message most often contradicts a spam filter from one of the servers.
To rule out this option, compose a simple new text message with a unique subject and a couple of lines of plain text. Then, send it from the account that’s misbehaving to the same account.
If the message arrives, you should be convinced that there’s nothing wrong at your end. If it doesn’t, take a closer look at the bounce message you get instead.
3. Send the pictures as attached files
If you attempt to send emails fails with error 0x8007007A in Windows Live Mail, this means that the app cannot send any media attachments from OneDrive.
The latest updates in OneDrive caused this, so consider sending the images as attached files instead.
4. Make sure you use the same settings as the incoming mail server
- In your Windows Live Mail application, right-click on your email account.
- Go to Properties from the menu, and choose the Server tab next.
- Select My server requires authentication, and click Settings.
- Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server and confirm.
- Click OK to close the Properties window.
5. Delete potentially corrupted emails in the Outbox
When Windows Live Mail keeps emails you try to send in the Outbox folder, and you know for sure recipients are not receiving them, you most likely have one or more corrupted emails placed there.
This usually happens with the oldest ones, so start deleting them one by one.
The Windows Live Mail error 0x800CCC6A usually rights itself after a short while. This prevents sending messages out, but give it a few days and things will most likely get back to normal again.

Live Mail and IMAP
I need to use Windows Live Mail on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Remote Desktop Servers to let users access their corporate third party mail server (not Exchange) via IMAP.
It works fine. However, when users connect to the server for the first time the contents of the folders accessed via IMAP are copied locally on the client PC or on the user profiles on the remote desktop servers.
This causes network traffic and wastes space.
How should I configure the Live Mail IMAP clients in order to let users access their mailboxes via IMAP and leave the contents of the mailboxes on the mail server without copying them locally?

Please be informed that with the current design of Windows Live Mail, we don’t have the option to configure your account using IMAP feature.
If you want to incorporate your Hotmail/Outlook.com account using your preferred Mail client, here’s the information below to configure your account.
- POP3 Server: pop3.live.com ( port 995 )
- SMTP Server: smtp.live.com ( port 25 )
Note : If port 25 has been blocked in your network or by your ISP, you can set SMTP port to 587 with TLS or SSL Encryption depending on the client in use.

You may go to this link to learn more about Windows Live Mail and its features and click on Mail tab. To answer your questions:
1. The local copies of your archived email are store in a folder called Storage folder. Emails that were downloaded/sync are just saved temporarily on your computer. Meaning, if you are offline or removed the account in Windows Live Mail, you won’t be able to view and read the emails.
2. IMAP is simply a transport protocol between a mail client and a mailbox on a server. It’s up to the server admin to decide which protocols can be used to access a mailbox. In short, you can use IMAP server only if your email service provider supports this protocol. As for Hotmail accounts, we are using SMTP, POP and Deltasync when adding the account to mail client programs. If you configure the account via IMAP, it will syncronized all emails in Windows Live Mail displyed as what’s in your online account. You can create a folder under Storage folder to archive your emails if you want to back them up.
3. POP mail server or «POP server» is the most common form of incoming email server. POP server is what receives the email and is almost always used with an SMTP server, which is the outgoing server. S ome more advanced, fully-featured access like EAS and DeltaSync, that not only synchronize the contents of folders between client and server, but also handle other data that has to be kept current, like contacts and calendars.
