How to Show Clock With Seconds on Windows 10

On the Windows taskbar, there has always been a clock on the right-hand side. This clock shows the current time as well as the date. Up until the Windows 10 Anniversary Update, however, it was only possible for this clock to show seconds through the use of a third-party application, despite popular demand.

One Superuser user asked:

How do I show seconds on the Windows tray clock ? I’ve tried the advanced options in the control panel, but I’m not sure how do I do it. Is it like hh:mm:ss or is it something else?

As long as the user is running Windows 10 with the Anniversary Update, which was released on August 2 nd 2016, then it is possible to add seconds to the Taskbar clock using regedit.

Method 1: Adding Seconds Through Registry Editor

1. Press the Windows and X key on your keyboard, and in the menu that pops up, click the Command Prompt(Admin)
2. In the black window that opens, enter regedit and press Enter on your keyboard. This will open the Registry Editor.
3. Go to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
You can do this by locating the HKEY_CURRENT_USER drop-down option on the left, and then selecting SOFTWARE and so on, until you reach a folder called Advanced.

Системные часы на панели задач в Windows 10 отображают системное время и дату. По умолчанию время не включает показ секунд, но при необходимости можно включить или отключить их отображение.

Как включить или отключить отображение секунд в системных часах панели задач используя редактор реестра

Чтобы включить или отключить отображение секунд в системных часах панели задач в Windows 10, откройте редактор реестра, для этого сочетание клавиш + R, в открывшемся окне Выполнить введите regedit и нажмите кнопку OK.

В открывшемся окне редактора реестра перейдите по следующему пути:

Нажмите правой кнопкой мыши на разделе Advanced и в появившемся контекстном меню выберите Создать > Параметр DWORD (32 бита). Присвойте созданному параметру имя ShowSecondsInSystemClock.

Далее дважды щелкните левой кнопкой мыши по созданному нами параметру, и в качестве его значения установите 1, нажмите кнопку OK и закройте редактор реестра.

Для того чтобы изменения вступили в силу, достаточно перезапустить Проводник Windows или выйти из системы.

Чтобы перезапустить Проводник Windows, откройте «Диспетчер задач» нажав сочетание клавиш
Ctrl+Shift+Esc и в открывшемся окне диспетчера задач во вкладке Процессы найдите процесс с названием Проводник, выделите его и нажмите кнопку Перезапустить.

Теперь в системных часах на панели задач будут отображаться секунды.

Если вы захотите отключить отображение секунд, то просто удалите параметр ShowSecondsInSystemClock или измените его значение на 0 и перезапустите Проводник Windows

There is a registry key for this now if you have the 2016 Anniversary update

Microsoft, Why do we have to edit the registry to get this to work? Why can’t this be available in the clock settings?

Anyway for those who want to edit their registry and not add third party software you add a key in

and give it a value of 1

Log out and in again and you have seconds

here is somebody who can explain how

В операционной системе Windows 10 существует возможность включить отображение секунд в часах на панели задач. Сделать это можно через реестр.

Как включить секунды в часах

Скачайте и запустите файл реестра: https://yadi.sk/d/O_twgNPuiGbOWg , результат идентичен процессу, описанному ниже.

Нажмите сочетание клавиш Win + R, и введите в поле открывшегося окна “regedit”. Или найдите редактор реестра через поиск, введя “regedit”.

В редакторе реестра перейдите по следующему пути: “HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced”. Нажмите правой кнопкой мыши по разделу Advanced, и создайте в нём параметр DWORD (32 бита).

Make Taskbar Clock Show Seconds in Windows 10

You can make the taskbar clock show seconds in Windows 10. With a simple Registry tweak, this is possible. By default, the Taskbar only shows time in hours and minutes.

The ability to show seconds on the taskbar clock is available starting with Windows 10 build 14393. I tested a virtual machine of the stable branch and it started working only with Windows 10 Anniversary Update version 1607.

To make taskbar clock show seconds in Windows 10, you need to do the following.

1. Open Registry Editor.
2. Go to the following Registry key:

Here, create a new 32-bit DWORD value named ShowSecondsInSystemClock. Set its value data to 1. Note: Even if you are running 64-bit Windows you must still create a 32-bit DWORD value.

Now, restart Explorer or sign out and sign in back to your user account

The taskbar clock will have seconds:

06/15/17 . . . This option was in Winaero Tweaker when I set it up on a friend’s laptop, but not when I was setting up this Desktop . . . The above didn’t work for me using Win 10 Pro, 64-bit, version 1511 . . . but I can get seconds using 7+ Taskbar Tweaker

Windows 10 Anniversary Update version 1607 is required.
If you are using Winaero Tweaker 0.7.0.2, then please update the app to 0.7.0.3. I accidentally released a debug version of app, which shows ALL tweaks in the user interface, including tweaks which are not applicable to the current windows version. I am sorry for that.

I did it, but now it doesn’t show AM/PM and it’s on 24th hour format now and I can’t change it.

This is how the tweak works in Windows 10.
All you need is to disable the Show Seconds option /revert the tweak and you are done.

FINALLY! It took them 22 YEARS to display seconds without using a 3rd party app. What’s wrong with an option? Even now it’s an obscure registry setting instead of an option in the clock settings.

This should have been the default setting for all devices. You never have enough time… unless you start counting it.

That’s because many prefer native solutions.

Great to have seconds on the clock. For some reason though when I activated the tweak the display turned from using a colon to separate hours:minute:seconds to using a small square symbol to separate hours□minutes□seconds. Unchecking the tweak lost the seconds but the hours□minutes display with the small square remained rather than reverting to a colon.

You need to restore the default Segoe UI font as your system font. It is a known issue
