Where can I find default Microsoft fonts Calibri, Cambria?
If I want to test or use default Microsoft fonts on my Mac, and I own a post-2006 copy of Windows or Office, I believe I can legally use Calibri and Cambria although IANAL. This would be especially helpful when collaborating with colleagues using Office products like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Right now, I get a warning like: «Calibri not found. Trebuchet MS used instead.» Where can I find them?

To find and install default Microsoft fonts on a Mac:
- Navigate HERE in your browser.
- Download the .ZIP file.
- Unzip it (double-click it).
- Open the folder that appears.
- Select all the .TTF files inside the folder.
- With the files selected, right-click.
- From the pop-up menu, choose «open with → Font Book».
- Click «Install Font» for each font.
Note: Changes to fonts take effect when an application is opened or a user logs in to the account or computer on which the changes occurred, see support.apple.com.
If you have local Microsoft Word installation, say in /Applications , you can find the bundled fonts in the locations below:
- /Applications/Microsoft Word.app/Contents/Resources/DFonts
- /Applications/Microsoft Word.app/Contents/Resources/Fonts (for earlier versions)
The same should apply to other Office applications as well. Then you can copy the fonts to:
BTW, in Finder, there’s Go > Go To Folder. (⇧⌘G), which can be used to quickly navigate to a specific location.
Use the official Fonts distributed by Microsoft
If you have installed any Microsoft product, there is a chance you already have all Microsoft Fonts in your Mac.
For instance, the path to the fonts of MS Word is:
«/Applications/Microsoft Word.app/Contents/Resources/Fonts»
In general:
«/Applications/some_ms_app/Contents/Resources/Fonts»
Using terminal, you can copy any font to your font folder:
Below, the step-by-step instruction in case you are not familiar with terminal:
- Open Finder and go to the Applications Folder ( SHIFT + CMD + A )
- Locate MS Word or MS Excel or MS PowerPoint.
- Right-click and select Show Package Content .
- In Finder navigate through Contents/Resources/Fonts .
You will see all the installed MS Fonts. - Drag and Drop (press the Option key) the desired fonts to your Desktop (or any other user folder).
You must press the option key to create a copy of the fonts and not a link. - Select (in your Desktop) the fonts to install. Right-click and then Open .
The «Font Book» Application will check the fonts and probably it will give you some warnings. - Select the fonts in Font Book app and click Install.
- Delete the extra copies you have in the Desktop.
Do not try to install right from the application package or you will receive a fatal error. That is why in 5. you must make a copy to some user folder (ex. your Desktop)

Отключение шрифтов
Отключить можно любой шрифт, не являющийся обязательным для компьютера Mac. Выделите шрифт в программе «Шрифты», затем выберите «Правка» > «Отключить». Шрифт останется установленным, но больше не будет отображаться в меню шрифтов программ. В программе «Шрифты» рядом с названиями отключенных шрифтов отображается пометка «Откл.».
Удаление шрифтов
Удалить можно любой шрифт, не являющийся обязательным для компьютера Mac. Выделите шрифт в программе «Шрифты», затем выберите «Файл» > «Удалить». Программа «Шрифты» переместит шрифт в корзину.
Дополнительная информация
ОС macOS поддерживает шрифты TrueType (.ttf), Variable TrueType (.ttf), TrueType Collection (.ttc), OpenType (.otf) и OpenType Collection (.ttc). В ОС macOS Mojave добавлена поддержка шрифтов OpenType-SVG.
Шрифты устаревшего комплекта TrueType и шрифты PostScript Type 1 LWFN могут работать, но использовать их не рекомендуется.

Question: Q: Missing Calibri Font
When opening a Word doc, Pages comes up with the message that the Calibri font is missing. My colleague with a slightly earlier Macbook and software version has the Calibri font and gets no such message.
Can anyone explain what the issue is and what to do about it? (My peer group claims that the best fonts for proposals are Times or Times New Roman for body text and Calibri for headings and figures.)

Ah, I think I know the deal:
— My colleague has the font installed by virtue of also having MS Word for mac installed.
— I know how to fetch it (even for free if I choose not to acquire MS Word for my MacBook)
So if there’s a way to close this question, then I’m for it.

If you have Microsoft OneNote installed (available for free on Apple App Store) then you already have the Calibri and many other Microsoft fonts on your Mac however these fonts are only available for OneNote.
Here how to make these fonts from OneNote available system wide on your Mac.
- Open Finder then select Go to Applications from the menu.
- Right click on Microsoft OneNote.app and select Show Package Content
- Go to the folder Contents -> Resources -> Fonts
- From there double click on the desired font (ie Calibri.ttf, Calibrib.ttf, etc). This will open the font in the Font Book application. From there you can click Install Font.
Note: by default, Font Book will install the font for the current user only. If you want the font to be installed for all users, select Preferences… from the Font Book menu and change the Default Install Location: from User to Computer.

I followed these instructions, but I got a warning stating «Serious problem found. Do not install this font.»
Is there any other way to get the font legally and safely?

Apple OS X (not Pages) does not install the Calibri font which is copyrighted by Microsoft. The installation of Office for Mac 2011 will install the Calibri font into OS X system font locations. Office 2016 for Mac keeps its fonts resident within the individual application bundles.
Pages expects fonts contained in Word documents to be present on the Mac, and produces that warning box about missing Calibri font as a result. MS Office also has the ability to simulate bold and italic font attributes when those actual font family members are not installed on the PC. Pages will warn about these faux fonts as they too, are not installed on the Mac.
OS X installs Times New Roman, and Helvetica. The latter can be your replacement for Calibri. Otherwise, you will need to install Office for Mac 2011 to get the Calibri font. There are those that have posted the Calibri and other Microsoft fonts on the Internet for download, but that is in violation of Microsoft copyright — which is not encouraged here.

I should ask: I own an old Macbook with the 2011 version of Word for Mac; can I retrieve the font files from that computer? (I don’t have the install disks handy.)
