How to change system language on Windows 10

On Windows 10, the initial setup process offers you the option to set the default language. However, if you made a mistake or using a device already configured, you don’t have to struggle with the incorrect settings when your requirements are different.

If you have to change your device’s language settings, you can complete this task using the Settings app without reinstalling Windows 10.

In this Windows 10 guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to change your device’s system default language.

How to change default system language on Windows 10

If you’re using a computer with the incorrect language configuration, it’s unnecessary to reinstall Windows 10. You only need to adjust a few settings to set the appropriate language.

Disable language sync

On Windows 10 configured with a Microsoft account, the language preferences will sync across devices. In the case that you only need the settings on one computer, it’s recommended to disable the option to sync the language settings before making any changes to prevent the new configuration from overwriting the settings on your other devices.

To stop syncing the language preferences on Windows 10, use these steps:

1. Open Settings.
2. Click on Accounts.
3. Click on Sync your settings.

Under the «Individual sync settings» section, turn off the Language preferences toggle switch.

Once you complete the steps, you can change the language settings without affecting your other devices.

Change language settings

To change the system default language, close running applications, and use these steps:

1. Open Settings.
2. Click on Time & Language.
3. Click on Language.

Select the language package from the result.

Check the Set as my display language option.

Click the Yes, sign out now button.

After you complete the steps, the display language will change across the entire Windows 10 experience, including the Sign-in screen, Settings app, File Explorer, Desktop, apps, browser, and websites you visit. Depending on your new settings, Windows 10 may prompt you to review your privacy settings again.

Change region settings

In the case that you are adjusting the Windows 10 language because you’re now in a different region, you’ll also need to change the region settings.

To change the local region settings on Windows 10, use these steps:

1. Open Settings.
2. Click on Time & Language.
3. Click on Region.

Use the «Country or region» drop-down menu to select the current location (if applicable).

Under the «Related settings» section, click the Administrative language settings option on the right side.

Under the «Language for non-Unicode programs» section, click the Change system locale button.

Select the new system local by specifying the new language.

In the «Administrative» tab, click the Copy settings button.

Under the «Copy your current settings to» section, check the Welcome screen and system accounts and New user accounts options.

Click the OK button.

Click the OK button again.

Click the Restart now button.

Once you complete the steps, the computer will now use the correct region settings.

Typically, users never have to worry about changing or installing additional languages. However, the ability to change language-related settings may come in handy for organizations working with people that need to use different preferences. It’s also a useful feature to match the local settings if you relocate to another region or when buying a new device that ships from a different country.

The only caveat about changing the region settings is that you may lose access to Cortana, and the Microsoft Store may show different contents depending on the region you specified.

Недавно попросили изменить язык интерфейса в Windows 10 Single Language. Да тех, кто не в курсе, это одноязычная версия Windows 10 Home для устройств с небольшим объёмом накопителя. Например, для планшетов. К слову, пока решить эту проблему на том гаджете не удалось. Подозреваю, что проблема в правах пользователя на изменение системных файлов, так что будем пробовать. Но всё же хочется поделиться общим решением для изменения языка интерфейса.

Как изменить язык интерфейса в Windows 10 Single Language

0. Рекомендую проделывать все эти изменения на чистой системе.

1. Скачиваем русский языковой пакет. Обращаем внимание на разрядность версии Windows.

2. Переименовываем пакет в «lp.cab» и перемещаем в папку в корне жесткого диска. Например, в папку «lp».

3. Нажмите «Win+X» и выберите «Командная строка (Администратор)».

4. Введите команду dism /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\lp\lp.cab . Дождитесь установки пакета.

5. Введите команду dism /Online /Get-Packages | findstr /c:»LanguagePack» . Будет выведен список всех установленных языковых пакетов. Если всё установилось правильно, то их будет два: английский (или тот язык, который был уставлен у вас в самом начале) и русский.

6. Удалите первый язык. Введите команду dism /Online /Remove-Package /PackageName:Microsoft-Windows-Client-LanguagePack-Package

Номер пакета , где «Номер пакета» выглядит примерно так: 31bf3856ad364e35

10.0.15063.0 . Дождитесь удаления пакета.

7. Перезагрузите систему. Язык должен измениться.

How to Change Language of Windows 10 Single Language Without Format

I’m working on a computer which has Windows 10 Home Single Language.

The language cannot normally be changed on Settings since its Single Language version.

So how do I change the interface language for Windows without reinstalling Windows?

Okay this is how I handle this situation. First you should setup the language pack of the desired language to use.

If you haven’t done already, download your desired language pack. This usually can be done from Windows 10 Settings > Time & Language > Language tab and then clicking on Add language.

Check the language packs on your computer to confirm it was installed. Press Win+R and type cmd , then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open Command Prompt with Administrator rights.

Type dism /online /get-packages and press Enter .
We are looking for Microsoft-Windows-Client-LanguagePack-Package as a start for Package Identity. And its State should be Installed Check screenshot
You can see next 5 characters after

for understand which language it is. In this example, we are seeing tr-TR. If you are looking for English for example, you should look for en-US.

If you found the desired language in the step above, skip this step. Otherwise, continue reading. You will have to manually download and install the language pack you want. To do that, go to this link for Windows 10 1909 (UPDATE: Go to this link for Windows 10 2004). Then select language pack you want to download. Then go to Command Prompt (Admin rights) again and type Dism /online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\lp.cab . Don’t forget to change PackagePath to your downloaded .cab file’s path before you type! Then press Enter to install downloaded language pack

Press Win+R and type regedit , then press Ctrl+Shift+Enter to open Regedit with Administrator rights. Then go to \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Nls\Language
Default entry shows that language id of your system. Check this link to look your desired language id from list. Copy the part after 0x part. For example for en-US, get 0409 Check screenshot

Double click to Default (In some cases you might need to change InstallLanguage‘s id as well) to edit this entry and paste the language id you copied. Save and restart your computer.
