SMARTReporter 3.1.17
protect your data with disk failure prediction
SMARTReporter is an application that can warn you of some hard disk drive failures before they actually happen! It does so by periodically polling the S.M.A.R.T. status of your hard disk drives. S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) is a technology built into most modern hard disk drives that acts as an «early warning system» for pending hard disk drive problems. SMARTReporter can notify you of impending hard disk drive failures by a variety of notification options including alert boxes, on-screen notifications and email.
The current status of your hard disk drives is also always easily recognizable because SMARTReporter changes its icon (optionally in the menubar) from green to red if a problem occurs. SMARTReporter does not only check for S.M.A.R.T. disk failure predictions but increases failure prediction accuracy by checking for dangerous I/O errors as well. Additionally SMARTReporter can monitor the status of software R.A.I.D. sets for degradation or check free space on the boot disk.
Please note that a S.M.A.R.T. alert does not mean that your disk will certainly fail completely, nor can S.M.A.R.T. (or I/O-error checking) catch all possible disk problems before they happen — it’s just a very valuable indicator. SMARTReporter is NOT a substitute for regular backups especially as it only concerns itself with hardware-level problems (like physical drive failures) and not at all with software-level problems (like filesystem health) that could also destroy all your data. Perform regular backups, make sure you read the F.A.Q. entry about prediction reliability and follow these links for more information about S.M.A.R.T. technology in general.
Limitations:
Only ‘internal’ disks are supported, but some external disks can be made to work with additional software.
Some disks do not support S.M.A.R.T. at all and therefore do not work with SMARTReporter’s S.M.A.R.T.-check:
• the «OWC Aura SSD for Mac Pro»
SSD Support:
SMARTReporter supports S.S.D. and Flash Storage devices well (see the F.A.Q.) but even more complete SSD-health checking is built into our complementary SSDReporter. For the time being the features of SSDReporter can not be added to SMARTReporter because of limitations of Apple’s Mac App Store.
User Reviews:
System Requirements:
• Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later
• 64-bit processor (Intel Core 2 Duo or better)
License & Cost:
SMARTReporter is licensed under a proprietary license and costs 9.99$.

SMARTReporter is an application that can warn you of some hard disk drive failures before they actually happen! It does so by periodically polling the built-in S.M.A.R.T. status of your hard disk drives as well as performing other checks for «I/O errors» or R.A.I.D «degradation». The current status of your hard disk drives is always easily recognizable because SMARTReporter changes its icon (optionally in the menubar) from green to red if a problem occurs.
S.M.A.R.T. CHECKING
SMARTReporter periodically checks the built-in S.M.A.R.T. status of all compatible connected disks. S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) is a technology built into most modern hard disk drives that acts as an «early warning system» for pending hard disk drive problems.
I/O ERROR CHECKING
SMARTReporter has the unique capability to check the system kernel log-file for occurrences of dangerous «I/O errors» to improve the disk failure prediction accuracy.
R.A.I.D. CHECKING
SMARTReporter can automatically check whether connected R.A.I.D. sets become «degraded» or just «offline».
DISK SPACE CHECKING
SMARTReporter can also monitor the free disk space because a completely filled boot disk might lead to system lockups.
NOTIFICATION OPTIONS
SMARTReporter has completely customizable notification options for all four disk checks including notification via changing application icons, email, alert dialogue, on-screen notification (Growl or OS X 10.8 native), or by launching arbitrary applications / scripts.
ADVANCED OPTIONS
SMARTReporter supports a variety of advanced options and tools including automated S.M.A.R.T self-tests, scheduled S.M.A.R.T. attribute checking and plotting graphs of all acquired data over time. Please note that the S.M.A.R.T. self-test/attribute-check features aren’t officially supported.
*** SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ***

Quickly detect errors in your hard drive
Hard disk failure is something that you can receive advance warning of before it happens. SMARTReporter is an application that can warn you of certain hard disk drive failures before they actually happen.
SMARTReporter works by periodically verifying the S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) status of your hard disk. Most modern hard drives are equipped to support S.M.A.R.T. and acts as an early warning system for pending hard disk drive problems. SMARTReporter notifies you of impending failures by sending e-mails, displaying a warning dialog or executing an application.
SMARTReporter sits in your Menu Bar and displays the current state of your hard drive. SMARTReporter supports ATA, SATA or eSATA hard disk drives although FireWire hard drives aren’t supported. However, it should be noted that SMARTReporter is not a fail safe measure against any kind of failure. It can be very sketchy in picking up errors and there’s no guarantee that it will detect anything before the worst happens.
SMARTReporter is certainly better than doing nothing in preventing hard drive failure although it’s far from perfect.
Fixed the I/O error check to work on OS X 10.8. Added support for native on-screen notifications in OS X 10.8. Added Brazilian Portuguese localization (thanks to Victor Figueiredo). Added new menubar icon set to better fit with the default Apple icons. Fixed possible issues related to I/O error checking, notification interval and log-output. Never activate discrete GPU in hybrid GPU Macs from 2011 or newer.

SMARTReporter is an application that can warn you of ATA hard-drive failures before they actually happen! It does so by periodically polling the S.M.A.R.T.-status of your hard-drives. S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology) is a technology built into most modern hard-drives that acts as an «early warning system» for pending drive problems. Because SMARTReporter relies on the S.M.A.R.T. implementation of Mac OS X, it only supports ATA or S-ATA hard-drives, if you want S.M.A.R.T. support for your FireWire hard-drive, send feedback to Apple.
SMARTReporter can notify you of impending drive failures by sending e-mails, displaying a warning dialog or executing an application. The current status of your drives is always displayed through the customizable menu item.
