SMPlayer is a free media player for Windows, Linux and MacOS with built-in codecs that can play virtually all video and audio formats. It doesn’t need any external codecs. Just install SMPlayer and you’ll be able to play all formats without the hassle to find and install codec packs. One of the most interesting features of SMPlayer: it remembers the settings of all files you play. So you start to watch a movie but you have to leave. don’t worry, when you open that movie again it will be resumed at the same point you left it, and with the same settings: audio track, subtitles, volume.

Wow! thanks for this awesome player! Installed it a few days ago and the more I use it, the better I like it. I was using Zoom Player, not any more, I completely removed it! Now this is the ONLY player I’m using, using it on Windows 10 64bit Pro Edition. Super Big THANKS for all your efforts and time in sharing this wonderful player. Again Thanks.
It is the best Linux-Media-Player, so it gets full overall score.
Konfiguration ist mostly well prebuild and easy to adapt on your personal whishes.
Only the playlist is the matter. Nice, that it can append usefully on the side, but only using clicks or permanenty. A smooth fly-bye playlist would be nice.
Very nice media player, but it could use a little more effort from developers.
For new users, November 2019 — while mpv is a great cross platform video and audio player, probably the most advanced for functionality, with great video scalers and a steep learning curve, SMPlayer is a bad tentative to give a GUI to this gem. But the results are not very good; I tried a lot of times this player but there are always a lot of small and big bugs that are not absolutely present in the original MPV player. And after some days, I’m always forced to uninstall it. I’m not the first person to not apprecciate SMPlayer, sorry.

MPlayer OSX Extended
Retirement Notice
MPlayer OSX Extended has been retired and won’t receive any future updates.
After development of MPlayer OSX Extended has been slow for many years and development of the underlying MPlayer project has moved on to mpv, I have decided that it doesn’t make sense to invest more time into this project.
Consider using one of the following alternatives for video playback on macOS:
IINA: Great UI for mpv
mpv: Has its own UI but is a bit cryptic
VLC: Feature-packed but clunky interface
About
MPlayer OSX Extended is the future of MPlayer OSX. Leveraging the power of the MPlayer and FFmpeg open source projects, MPlayer OSX Extended aims to deliver a powerful, functional and no frills video player for OSX.
MPlayer OSX Extended is based on the original MPlayer OSX project but has since undergone fundamental changes, making it a modern and easy to use video player. Thanks to multithreading and 64bit architecture, MPlayer OSX Extended is one of the fastest choices on OSX to play back HD H264 videos. It also supports instant playback of MKV files and advanced styled subtitles in the ASS format.
MPlayer OSX Extended uses the MPlayer open source project for decoding and integrates MPlayer’s default key commands with a native OSX interface. Users of MPlayer should immediately feel at home and are able to tweak the fine details of the MPlayer invocation with binary bundles and additional command-line options.
Some of its key features are:
Up-to-date builds of MPlayer and FFmpeg.
Clean and concise interface and preferences.
Support for MKV files with embedded fonts and ASS subtitles.
Multithreaded and 64bit-enabled for best playback performance.
Built-in support for a wide range of video and audio formats.
Fullscreen controls, playlist, inspector and interactive audio and video equalizers.
Capture screenshots of any video.
Automatic updates for itself and MPlayer binaries.
