Call a phone number from Teams

To dial a number from Teams, go to Calls , click Dial a number, and then enter the number of the person you want to reach by using the dial pad. Then click Call .

Important: You won’t be able to make a 911 emergency call if Teams isn’t connected to the internet.

Note: If you don’t see the option to dial a number, your org may not have purchased a calling plan. But you can still make calls to other people in Teams.

Here are a few other ways to make a call:

If the person you want to reach is in your contacts list, click Contacts, find the person you want to call, and then click Call .

If you’ve called people before (or if they’ve called you), they’ll be in your call history. In History, select More actions to the right of the person’s name, then click Call back.

You can also access your voicemail and call people from that list. In Voicemail, select More actions to the right of the person’s name, then click Call back.

To access your dial pad during a call, go to your call controls and select Keypad .

To make a call, tap Calls > and enter a phone number. If you’ve enabled the setting to allow access to your phone contacts, tap Calls > Contacts and select the person you want to call.

Use the dial pad on your mobile device to dial numbers from your personal phone number and to make emergency calls to your country-specific emergency number.

To call a phone number (PSTN) from the Surface Hub, touch Call from the welcome screen, and then tap Dial Pad.

Call from someone claiminhg to be from Windows support

Several times over the past three years I’ve received calls from someone who said they were calling from Windows support team. The first time they said that my AVG Free offered me insufficient protection and offered me AVG (non free) for two years at a «cheap rate» of $200. Sadly I fell for it and paid the money through Paypal — although he seemed to indicate he’d prefer my doing so via my credit card. Since that time I’ve received three or four calls claiming that I’d been hacked. I replied that I thought these callswere scans and they hung up immediately . Just tonight there was another call claiming that I’d been hacked and urged me to get on my computer so he could show me my problem. I indicated my suspicion but he insisted I get on the computer and he’d prove he was from Windows by pointing out my license number. I refused and said he should do so over the phone. He gave me a long alpha-numeric number. I asked for his phone number, said I would call Windows support to make sure his call wasn’t a scan and said I’d call him back if they ( Windows) verified his authenticity, whereupon he said not to do so as his number wouldn’t be answered. He then said I shouldn’t use my computer as it was being hacked.

What of all this? Is he legitimate? Has anyone else received these calls? The callers all had the same accents, either Indian or Pakistani. Please help.

P.S. I now hav Windows 10 bu these started when I had Windows 7.

Someone Said He’s Calling From Windows Calling Center?

Someone called me on my house phone and said he’s from windows calling center, trying to help me with my computer because he thinks malicious hardware was downloaded on my computer.

I don’t know what could have caused that, or how Windows calling center would get my phone number..

He also told me I had a pretty voice which kind of scared me, what kind of customer service says stuff like that. o.o

My computer is acting fine..

It’s hard for me to tell if somethings a scam when they call on house phone because we don’t have caller ID.

Nobody from Microsoft will call you to inform you of a problem with your PC. If he/she phones again, tell them not to call & that all calls to your phone are monitored. If that doesn’t work, contact the Police.

It’s a scam, my friend.

Before long he’d be asking you to give him access to your computer so that he could prove to you that you’re infected. This would give him the opportunity to infect your computer.

He’d offer to put things right for you . but you will, of course, need to pay for either his expertise, or for software that he’d be willing to sell you.

The reason he was telling you that you have a pretty voice is basic psychology. He’s trying to make you feel good, and hopefully get you to respond positively to what he’s telling you.

There MAY be something wrong with your computer . many users don’t even know that they’ve got some form of malware running on their computer . even ones that have, what they consider, adequate protection . but Microsoft, nor any of their representatives, will EVER telephone you.

By the way, if he did say that he thinks that «malicious hardware was downloaded» onto your computer, this goes to prove how stupid he is. Hardware is the physical components. It would be software that would be downloaded onto your computer.

It’s a scam to get you to give them access to your computer by downloading a program like Logmein. He’ll then tell you that you have a bunch of problems and since he has access to your computer he’ll make it look real convincing by showing you different stuff on the computer. The last part of the scam is getting you to agree to pay him to fix the bogus problems and charging it to your credit card.

Microsoft does not call people and this guy does know anything about your computer unless you give him access to it. He’s filling you full of crap.

How to Make Phone Calls From Your Computer

In our new reality, plenty of us are having to get used to working from home, and that often means making and taking calls, depending on your job . If you don’t want to have your phone pressed to your ear all day, or you’d rather keep your work on your work machine and your actual life on your phone, you can get those calls done on your laptop or desktop.

There are a slew of ways to call someone from your computer, from video-conferencing software like Zoom to a messaging app like Slack, but here we’re going to concentrate on calling actual cell or landline numbers from Windows or macOS (and receiving calls, too, in some cases, though that’s not always possible).

The hardware you need

A computer is required, obviously, but it doesn’t matter if you use Windows or macOS, a laptop or a desktop. If you’re using a Mac and an iPhone, then you know those devices already play together very well, but there are some other options you should know about, too.

You can make calls using your computer’s built- in mic and speakers, but it’s not usually the best experience, with the voices of friends, family, or colleagues booming out and shaking the walls. (Dramatic? Maybe. But it’s loud.) The pros use a headset with a mic, which makes your calls sound better and gives you more privacy, too .

Any business or gaming headset will do for phone calls. You could buy something like this headset from Amazon for example, or the Elite Pro 2 gaming headset from Turtle Beach, or even a pair of Apple AirPods . For best results, you want a wired USB or 3.5mm audio jack connection, but Bluetooth will work as well, if you’re OK with adding some unpredictability into the mix.

It’s a good idea to make sure your headset of choice is working as intended before you start making important work calls. On Windows, open the Start menu, click the cog icon on the left, then choose System and Sound. You can make sure the right input and output devices are selected, change the volume levels, and test your microphone. Click App volume and device preferences if you want the volume in your calling app to be different from the other apps on your system.

If you’re using macOS, open the Apple menu, then System Preferences. Click Sound, and on the Input and Output tabs you’ll be able to select your headset , check the volume levels, and even adjust the balance of the sound. Pay particular attention to the microphone volume level, because you don’t want to deafen the people you talk to.

None of this is difficult , and it’s worth checking your settings in advance rather than trying to figure them out on a call. To be absolutely sure everything is working correctly, you can always do a test recording via the Voice Recorder app on Windows and QuickTime Player on macOS .

The software you need

You a have a lot of options when it comes to making phone calls . If you’ve got a Mac and an iPhone signed into the same Apple ID, just load up FaceTime for macOS. Y ou can place an audio call to any number from the desktop FaceTime app through your iPhone by typing it in and clicking Audio (or just pick the name of a contact from the list).

If you’re on Windows, the Your Phone app that’s now part of Microsoft’s operating system can make calls through a linked Android phone. I t’s almost as smooth as macOS and an iPhone. Launch the app from the Start menu, switch to the Calls tab, then follow the instructions (you’ll also need to get this app on your Android phone).

If you don’t want to route calls via your phone, Skype is a reliable option, with desktop clients for Windows and macOS. Click here for prices for calling mobiles and landlines; a variety of subscription options are available, and you get 60 calling minutes a month if you’re an Office 365 subscriber. Just tap out the number you want to call in the app (head to the program settings and you can set a Caller ID as well).

Keku is similar to Skype but runs inside a web browser—again, you can just tap out any number to ring it, and set your Caller ID as needed. Calls to the U. Google Voice is still around, and if you’ve signed up for the service then you can make calls to cell phones and landlines through the web interface. Then there’s TextNow , which is available through desktop clients for Windows and macOS as well as mobile apps for Android and iOS.
