Educational product licenses are identical to regular SoundID Reference product licenses in terms of functionality.

Educational product licenses can be activated and used on a single computer only at a time (regular licenses can be activated and used on 3 computers).

We offer better prices to universities and schools who are looking to order multi-seat licenses.

If you own a Reference 4 Educational license key, you can upgrade to SoundID Reference Educational license key for Headphones and for Speakers & Headphones respectively.

Currently, all other educational upgrade/cross-grade paths are done manually via our Customer Support. Please find more information in the answers below.

IMPORTANT! The educational upgrade products will not work with regular (non-educational) license keys.

You are eligible for an educational discount if you are:

-currently enrolled in full-time educational studies and are 18 years of age, or of legal age according to your country’s laws.

-currently enrolled in a part-time program that consists of at least 20 hours of study time per week, or one that runs for 12 months or more, and are 18 years of age, or of legal age according to your country’s laws.

-currently teaching full-time or part-time at a school or university in any field.

Graduated students, former teachers, and members of monthly subscription classes do not meet the requirements for the educational discount on our products.

No. The educational email address is used to help us verify your eligibility, and to complete the order process. After the order is done, the license key can be activated with any other email address that you have access to.

Yes. The single installation instance means that you can install SoundID Reference on as many computers as you like, but the software will only work on a single device at a time. You can manage your licenses and activations with the help of our account self-management platform here. After creating a Sonarworks profile, you will be able to activate/deactivate your licenses as many times as you wish on any of the devices that you installed and activated the license on before.

Your licenses are NOT lost if something happens to your computer and can always be accessed on your Sonarworks account from anywhere anytime.

This only applies to discounted educational licenses. The regular license keys can be run on 3 separate devices at the same time.

Yes, you have to apply again and renew your educational status. The originally accepted educational status was valid for a single purchase only.

If you currently own a regular Reference 3 or Reference 4 license (with 3 activation seats) and wish to upgrade to SoundID Reference Educational license (single activation seat only), we will have to process the upgrade manually on our side after you make the upgrade purchase.

In this article, you will find an overview of our software releases, their component specifics as well as operating systems that they are supported on. Before you proceed with more in-depth details, here are the basic system requirements needed to run the latest and supported versions of Reference (supported versions are 4.3 or higher):

• PC: Windows 7 or higher
• MAC: macOS 10.12 High Sierra or higher

The latest version of Reference software is always recommended to use, download here . However, there can be numerous reasons for using older versions of Reference instead. For example, running Reference 4 on macOS 10.11 or lower is possible using older versions.

Keep in mind though that versions 4.3 and lower are not supported — all active development on them has stopped. We do of course have some basic support in place for them as well as FAQ content and we will help with essential issues (activation, license transfers, etc.) if you submit a support request regarding using those versions. However, software issues will only be investigated and fixed on supported versions/operating systems as we simply don’t have the capacity to fully support them. All older software releases are available for download in our downloads archive .

Important for new trialists: to launch a new trial for an older version of Reference, you will need a trial key. Only the latest Reference 4.4 online installer starts the trial automatically by entering your email address. All other installers ( offline and downloads archive ), will require a new trial key to start your demo. Submit a support request below for that.
