So I just built a brand new computer (abs), Windows 10, 8gbs of ram, processor: intel core i5 4690 CPU @3.50 GHz, 64-bit operating system.
Great PC! I’m not sure if maybe my computer is too much for the game or what but here’s the issue.

When I put the disc in, it reads and installs fine. When I click «Play Game» the program just completely closes and doesn’t do anything!

troubleshoot. try on another computer, see if it works. even for a brief moment. and know the differences between your computer and the other one.

there is such a way to restore disks, try to clean it, or burn it onto a new disk,

Install Game

As far as gaming royalty goes, few characters can claim to be in the same league as Sega’s Supersonic Hedgehog, Sonic. That’s for good reason though, the spiky-haired hero has amassed a catalogue of truly phenomenal games down the years, with special mention to the 2D outings that allowed this series to achieve the popularity it has. So the anthology that is the Sonic Mega Collection Plus aims to showcase the series in all its glory.

This game features a series of sonic titles, offering an eclectic mix of what allowed the series to grow. So for that reason, it’s hard to put this into one category or make an comparisons. This is a title made with Sonic fans in mind. So if you like Sonic as a franchise, or the Sonic games in the pre 2000’s era, you won’t be upset with this nostalgia fuelling title.

All The Hits

This collection includes all the games that have contributed to the success of the series. This includes the numbered base games of Sonic 1-3 obviously. However, this also includes the uniquely 3D rendered titles like Sonic and Knuckles or Sonic 3D Blast, the departures like Sonic Spinball or Dr Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine. These games are not all polished or refined but they are undoubtedly important and serve their nostalgic purposes.

These are all represented on screen through a neat and easy to navigate interface. Admittedly, this is simply a set of Roms with an emulator that runs each classic title on new hardware. Quite frankly though, that’s all it needs to be. Not all fans have retained their old copies or want move their older titles into a new age. So, this is a welcome choice.

Old Problems persist

As this is a glorified emulation software, the great aspects of these games remain as you remember them. Alas, the problems you remember in these games also persist. The new hardware will not fix the frame rate issues, hitboxes that were well-known issues from before are still present. It would have been nice to see a set of fixes, patches or any kind of spit polish that upped the production value to some extent. Overall, the title gets away with this due to the status and quality of most of the games included even in the present day. Though, it does feel a little lazy.

That’s a Plus

The ‘plus’ in this title does offer long time fans quite a lot of extra goodies. Along with a series of Game Gear titles, players will have access to content from Sonic Heroes and a plethora of comics that add to the lore of the Sonic franchise.

Though the main change is the ability for players to essentially make save states at any area of a level or section. This is a way for players to play their favourite sections and levels whenever they please. Though does somewhat go against the Sonic gameplay. It takes away the stakes and teaches kids players that rings don’t matter because you can just trial and error your way to a flawless run, edging forward at a snails pace, which Sonic has done exactly the opposite throughout his whole lifespan.

Gotta Go Fast

Overall, those that are avid Sonic fans, retro game collectors or those that want to witness a generation of gaming that passed them by, this is an excellent resource. If you’re buying this one for unique and new content, I’m afraid you’ve missed the point. This game is so that you can have all the quintessential Sonic hits in one place and does this in a competent manner.

What can be condemned is the laziness of the emulation over a polish and remaster approach. It would have been nice to get rid of the more clunky issues to leave a perfect set of titles. Perhaps if you are seeking authenticity, this would be almost sacrilegious, so we won’t attack the developers to much for this, simply food for thought. The Sonic Mega Collection Plus is a wonderful trip back in time that you should pick up and enjoy.
