Sopcast For Mac Manual: How To Use It

Sopcast for Mac allows you to watch TV for free on your Mac including sports and TV shows from around the World. However, some users still have problems using it since there is no Sopcast for Mac Manual. Also, many of the features available in the PC version have never been added to the Mac version so users that have switched to Mac are sometimes left confused. Here’s a brief overview and review of how to download and use Sopcast for Mac.

Sopcast For Mac Manual: How To Use Sopcast

First, download Sopcast for Mac and drag it to your Applications folder. The latest version is Sopcast for Mac 1.3.5 and it works on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard and above. Note: If you are using OS X 10.7.3 or above, you may have to deactivate Gatekeeper on your Mac to install Sopcast as it is not available from the Mac App Store.

Open Sopcast.You may see a request for “sp-sc-auth” to accept incoming network connections. This simply allows Sopcast to connect you to the P2P network upon which Sopcast is based to deliver video to users. Click Allow.You’ll then see a jumbled mix of channels and channel names. There is no real organization to these channels and finding what you want is very hit and miss. The green bars on the left represent the strength of the stream – if there are no bars then the stream probably doesn’t work although sometimes, even channels with full bars don’t work. Note: All of the content is streamed by other Sopcast users, not by the developers of Sopcast. We do not endorse the streaming of video by users who do not hold the rights to the content being streamed. Most of the users streaming content on Sopcast are on Windows because the PC version of Sopcast allows you to setup and stream your own channel but the Mac version doesn’t.

You’ll also notice that many of the channels are from Asia or China but there are plenty of US and English language channels there as well. Finding them however is just a matter of trial and error by clicking on the various channels as there’s no TV guide for Sopcast. To make things worse, some channels are also “spam” i.e. the name suggests that you can watch a specific sporting event but when you click on it, you’re just served an advert as to where you can see the game.

The channels you see have all been created by other Sopcast users and use P2P technology to stream channels. To view a channel, simply click on it and wait for the white streaming bar at the bottom of the screen to increase. It can take a few seconds for the stream to be established so you need to be a bit patient sometimes. However, you’ll find however that some channels simply do not work which is one of the most frustrating things about Sopcast.

You can also add Sopcast streams you have found on the internet for certain events or shows. For example, Sopcast addresses are usually something like:

How To Hide The Sidebar In Sopcast For Mac

One of the most annoying things in Sopcast for Mac is the sidebar on the left with the channel list. You can’t actually hide it manually. The only way to hide the sidebar in Sopcast is to switch to full screen mode by clicking the full-screen icon in the bottom right of the screen: Sopcast will then display the channel in full screen and after a few seconds, the sidebar will disappear.

Sopcast is a bit of a dated, disorganized and heavily Asian focused TV streaming app but it’s still useful for streaming English speaking channels and events on your Mac. If you have any problems or questions about it, leave them in the comments below.

Hi! Does anyone know how can I edit the channels playlist? I have a list of my own sop addresses and I want to save them in the list to the left overwriting the existing channels, so I can easily access them

In my sopcast on mac os mojave there is no image, only sound. What can I do?

Editors’ Review

Despite the Internet’s ability to connect Web sites and other content across continents, finding video content from other countries can be difficult. SopCast for Mac allows users to view channels originating in many countries from one program on their computer.

Available as freeware, the program’s channels are also viewable at no cost. The program is small, downloaded quickly, and easily installed. In terms of functionality, SopCast for Mac allows you to watch from a list of channels organized by country of origin. There is also a menu allowing you to directly paste links to other SopCast channels not listed in the main menu. While the program advertisement claims to allow you to produce and stream your own channels, there was no listed capability for this in the actual Mac version of the program. In examining the available channels, it is clear the majority of the content comes from foreign countries, mostly in Asia. The channels selected loaded well and streamed at an average, standard-definition quality. The channel menu was easy to navigate, but the individual stations lacked any description beyond the country of origin, making it difficult to find out what type of program was playing. The content from the main menu had limited variety with few channels available overall.

SopCast for Mac, despite its limited content, would be a useful app for those who are bilingual or come from a foreign country and have difficulty finding programs in their native languages.

Question: Q: Sopcast on Mac OSX — Solution confirmed

Hi everyone, first post on these forums but Ive managed to get something working that a lot of mac users seem to be desperate for — sopcast.

You need a few different bits of software but I now have sopcast working perfectly on my macbook.

You will first need to download «Crossover»

Once installed, open the program and install internet explorer 6 (the programme automates this process for you)

Then go to the Microsoft website and download the .exe file for Media player 7.

Open crossover again and select «install unsupported application» — browser to the media player 7 .exe and install

Return to microsoft and download media player 9 and repeat the steps above.

Finally download sopcast .exe file from the sopcast site and install as above.

Sopcast can now be run from the applications folder!

Thanks so much. I have been looking for weeks to get this problem solved. However, I am still not up and running yet. I done everything you said. all downloaded. I get the sopcast working through the «crossover» folder, but it just says «playing» after I choose a TV link and screen is black!! Have you managed to get it working. anything else I need to do??

ok. all i can let you know is how it went down for me.. i’m not too techno minded.
followed original instructions. nothing but black screen when sopcast should of been playing something. launched WMP by clicking the icon. WMP informed me that codec was required. followed the prompts and watched it download.. restarted crossover. launched sopcast.. still seemed to be the same problem. launched WMP by clicking the correct icon again and WMP asks if i want to install the codec. i clicked yes and it all started working correctly. even when it says playing, be patient, you should see something in about 30 seconds- provided there is nothing wrong with the selected channel.. hope it works for ya! i was over the moon when it worked for me..

as for streaming quality, i guess it’s all about the channel your trying to watch. but i usually go to http://livetv.ru/en/ via internet explorer and search for stuff on there. all the sports i watch seem to be easily found, and a streaming rating is given. i choose the highest rating for a sopcast compatible streaming of the event i want, and i’m as happy as a pig in *****. with a beer in hand:) good luck!

To those who installed all good but to who nothing happens when they click on the left-icon to launch windows media player and install the plugin:

I had the same problem, did the installation several times, was not working. Then, a little bit desperate, I clicked lots of time in a row on the famous left-icon, and wow miracle! It launched WMP and installed the plugin. Now Sopcast is working perfectly!

So the solution is very simple, even stupide lol, but works very well: Just click like 10 times very quickly, like if you’d do a double-click, on the left icon, and normally it should work. If you have done the installation in a proper way, of course. All the softs must be in the same bottle (win98) !

Sorry if my english is not perfect, Im not a native speaker. 😉

Ive managed all steps but the last it seems. When clicking the famous button to open up windows media player it keeps telling me the H264 plugin is missing. I keep installing FFdshow as suggested but keeps getting this error.
