Updating the Firmware for Soundking DM20 Digital Mixing Console

Synopsis: Easy to follow steps to update the firmware for the Soundking DM20 Digital Mixing Console, and the Soundking DB20P Digital Rack Mixer.

If you’re experiencing any unusual or «buggy» performance issues with your Sounding DM20 Digital Mixer, or the DB20P Digital Rack Mixer, it could be because the operating system requires an update. Keeping the firmware updated ensures smooth operation, fast processing and an overall more robust and stable mixing enviropnment.

Before updating your DM20/DB20P firmware, please save any of your current scenes. A firmware update will wipe current setting and any saved scenes, restoring the console to default settings.

DM20

To update the DM20 firmware, follow the steps below:

1. Click here to download the firmware update file titled mq16update.zip.
2. Save the file to a USB stick into the root directory — DO NOT unzip the file.
3. Put the USB stick into the USB port on the DM20.
4. Choose the «Setup» button on the DM20, then press System — Maintenance (on the right hand side of the screen).
5. Select «Update from USB».

If the firmware update was successful, the machine will automatically restart, and you will be able to resume normal operation. Check the system version, it should now the most recent version, «APK:V1.5.4B«.

DB20P

To update the DB20P firmware, follow the steps below:

1. Click here to download the firmware update file titled dm20update.zip.
2. Save the file to a USB stick into the root directory — DO NOT unzip the file.
3. Put the USB stick into the USB port on the DB20P.
4. Choose the «Setup» button on the DB20P, then press System — Maintenance (on the bottom left hand side of the screen).
5. Select «Update from USB».

If the firmware update was successful, the machine will automatically restart, and you will be able to resume normal operation. Check the system version, it should now the most recent version, «APK:V1.5.6A«.

Good morning, my name is Fernando Payes from Argentina and the Soundking dm20 was factory formatted x error and I can’t get the software to start, I would like if you had the basic software for the console, I think it would be called version 1.0. need inverted at AUX

i need to be inverted in each aux hopefully the latest version update can fulfill it. in the APK version: V1.5.4B, all aux devices are not equipped with inverted features

Issues

I am experiencing a few issues: 1. I cannot get the iOS app working with the console at all. I can connect the iPad to the desk and when I open the app, all of the metering and controls show. As soon as I try and change any of the settings via the app, it crashes and shuts down. I have tried this with 2 different iPads and also with 5 different dm20 applications from the apple store. 2. Because of problem 1. I though this may be a firmware/software issue so I tried to find an update. Having successfully found one on a website I have tried to install it numerous times and the desk will no accept it. 3. The spif insert on the desk doesn’t seem to work. I have a cable which I know that works but there is no level coming into the desk and the metering lights don’t show any signal The unit was brought from Thomann

It does sound like problem 1 and 2 are issues relating to firmware on the DM20 and the app version being used. We suggest installing the firmware we provide on our website (version APK:V1.5.4B at present). And ensuring you have the latest iOS app version v1.6 installed — this web link is the correct app, (not sure why you are seeing 5 on the app store, ensure it is the Soundking version): https://apps.apple.com/us/app/dm20-remote-app/id1131173419 Reach out to us via support if you still have any issue and we can assist to resolve and communicate with Soundking.

Dm-20 Issues

I have picked up a few issues with my unit. The scenes are always getting messed up, overwriting scenes on its own or saving multiple scenes on its own. Libraries don’t work properly and app keeps closing when I plug in a USB drive for music. Anyone else having the same problem and will there ever be another update for the firmware?

We have not heard of anyone reporting this issue before. Could you please confirm what version of the firmware you are currently using? Also can you advise if purchased through us in Australia, or from another seller? We will communicate with Soundking to find out if any issues likes this have been reported, but we need to confirm firmware you currently have. And yes, there have already been a few firmware updates for the DM20, and if there are issues that need to resolved I am sure Soundking will work to fix them in a future firmware release.
