Ssdp service on windows

Discovers networked devices and services that use the SSDP discovery protocol, such as UPnP devices. Also announces SSDP devices and services running on the local computer. If this service is stopped, SSDP-based devices will not be discovered. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start.

Default Behavior

SSDP Discovery is a Win32 service. In Windows 7 it won’t be started if the user doesn’t start it. When the SSDP Discovery service is started, it is running as NT AUTHORITY\LocalService in a shared process of svchost.exe. Other system components, such as drivers and services, may run in the same process. If SSDP Discovery fails to start, Windows 7 attempts to write the failure details into Event Log. Then Windows 7 startup should proceed and the user should be notified that the SSDPSRV service is not running because of the error.

Dependencies

SSDP Discovery is unable to start, if the HTTP service is stopped or disabled.

If SSDP Discovery is stopped, the following services cannot start:

2. Copy the command below, paste it into the command window and press ENTER:

sc config SSDPSRV start= demand

3. Close the command window and restart the computer.

Default Behavior

SSDP Discovery is a Win32 service. In Windows 10 it is starting only if the user, an application or another service starts it.
