After the latest comment and subsequent OOD flag, and checking this again, I’ve decided to orphan this. The project has been dead for 6 years, and the successor is not supported on Linux. I have unflagged the package as OOD though, because it isn’t, it’s broken, yes, but up to date, as there have been literally no updates in 6 years.

@yama Yes, I’m aware, just two days ago I had to do the same. That is not the only fork that exists and probably not the only one that works, though, so switching to it it’s not something I want to do. When I have some time I’ll investigate to see if there’s a minimal set of changes I can do to make this work without having to switch to a fork, and I’ll add it as a patch, as it looks the project is pretty dead.

Just a heads up, I had to make these changes for it to work:

Somebody flagged this out of date, and I’m afraid it’s not. Yes, it’s old. Yes, there’s another version. But no, it’s not a newer version of this project.
This is the Python version, which is the only one that works on Linux. There’s another, more recent project from the same author and with the same name which is written in C# and only supports Windows. Unless there’s a new commit in the Python version (or you can make the C# version work on Linux natively), please, don’t flag this as out of date, because it isn’t.

I wanted this to idle all my Windows games first since I’ll never play them unless they get ported later so for idling they take priority for me. To blacklist all my Linux games I did this.
Went here:
https://steamdb.info/linux/
Click the link at the bottom of the table to show all products
Highlight the contents of the Confirmed Working Products table, copy and paste it into vim.
In vim do this:
:v/AppID:/d
:%s/AppID: //g
:%s/ — Comment://g
You now have the AppIDs for all Linux games, one per line, save this as your blacklist.txt and run the program.
Hope this helps someone

Nevermind, looks like it does work for windows games too.
zman0900 commented on 2015-06-15 21:12
Does anyone know if this works with all steam games or only Linux compatible games?
zman0900 commented on 2015-06-15 21:07
You should link the blacklist.txt file into /etc/steam-idle-master also.
Darkhogg commented on 2015-01-05 12:06
@jonkev14 The executable is called steam-idle, but you need to configure a few things first. Read the documentation inside the Linux folder in the official repo.

I’m new to Linux and I have literally no idea how to download this program? can I get some instructions? keep in mind that I’m pretty much a Linux noob.
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
ghost commented Dec 2, 2015
well i don’t know if is the only way to download, but you can get by downloading the entire idle master py https://github.com/jshackles/idle_master_py/archive/master.zip
after, find the linux version (releases/linux) and copy to your user folder (/home/USER)
to run you will need install some python packeges, just open your terminal (ctrl+alt+t) and type this:
sudo apt-get install python-bs4 python-requests python-pil.imagetk python-colorama -y && sudo apt-get update
it will ask your linux password, no danger.
after this, by terminal open the idle file in the linux folder (cd Linux) and type python start.py
if you see the date, time and «WELCOME TO IDLE MASTER» it’s working (press Enter to close the python program)
now, put your steam account in the python version is quite hard so this video may help (starts on 1:30)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WC1S5dgyTdw
all done, just type «python.py» on the terminal again and if everything works the cards will start to drop after 2 hours or more (if it’s working a window will pop out with one of your games image, you can close that but keep the terminal open)
sorry for the text wall and my english as well but this was the best I could do, I hope this help you and if you have any problem just ask me
ps: I’m not a part of this project or a python programer so some things are probably more complicate than should be

Скачать Steam Idle Master
Idle Master

Steam idle master linux
This program will determine which of your Steam games still have Steam Trading Card drops remaining, and will go through each application to simulate you being “in-game” so that cards will drop. It will check periodically to see if the game you’re idling has card drops remaining. When only one drop remains, it will start checking more frequently. When the game you’re idling has no more cards, it’ll move on to the next game. When no more cards are available, the program will terminate.
This project has been discontinued, no further bug fixes or changes will be made. Issues and pull requests will be ignored. The program should still work (as of Jan 3, 2018) but Valve may make a change that causes the program to become non-functioning at any time. There are a multitude of forks of this project that are being currently maintained.
This application requires Steam to be open and for you to be logged in. This program is now being developed exclusively for Microsoft Windows.
Non-Windows versions are available in the Python repository but may be deprecated or feature incomplete.
If you are an end user you can download an install Idle Master directly from http://www.steamidlemaster.com or by launching setup.exe included in the root of this repository. You can also download the source repository above and compile the application using Microsoft Visual Studio.

Get your Steam Trading Cards the Easy Way
Idle Master is an application that automatically idles your Steam games to extract all of your available Steam Trading Cards. The application automatically finds the games you have drops remaining in, and idles those games one by one until all of your trading cards are in your inventory. This way, you can start up the program and go to sleep / work / away and come back to an inventory full of cards.
This is a group for Idle Master users. Discus anything from bug reports to feature suggestions.
Any spam or self promotion in this group will result in a permanent ban.
Idle Master version 1.4.1 has been released. This release includes the following changes:
- Fixed a bug that caused users badge pages not to load correctly.
- Updated dependencies and localization.
This release is available for download from www.SteamIdleMaster.com and is also available on Github [github.com] . The source code for this release is also available on Github [github.com] .
You can update your existing Idle Master program by overwriting it with the files from this release.
Before anyone gets too excited, this is just a bugfix release that adds no new features. I doubt I’ll be adding any new features to the program, but this was an easy bug to fix and it was affecting a lot of users so I decided to do a maintenance release. This doesn’t mean the project is less dead, just on life support.
In light of the upcoming Steam Marketplace changes next week, I’ve decided to discontinue working on and supporting Steam Idle Master. As someone who is unable to use the mobile authenticator, having trading cards put on hold for 15 days prior to being listed in the market makes the proposition of selling them a difficult one. As most of you know, the value of each card can fluctuate wildly in that amount of time.
This, bundled with additional security measures Valve has put in place are a good step forward in that they make Steam more safe for its users. For me personally, the cost of this safety is inconvenience. For people in my position who are unable to use the mobile authenticator, this effectively makes idling for and selling Steam Trading Cards a futile effort.
Idle Master started out as and always has been a hobby project. My personal attitude towards it has always been “It’s something I built for myself that I find useful, others probably will too”. The first part of that statement, however, is no longer true.
Going forward: I will be updating the Idle Master homepage so that the “Download” button links directly to the portable version of Idle Master. The homepage will remain online for the foreseeable future, but I’ll be adding a statement to the site that the program has been discontinued and is no longer being supported.
The source code for Idle Master is and will remain available on Github under an open source license.
Finally, I would like to say “Thank you” to all of Idle Master’s users and fans. Without you, a project like this couldn’t have been as successful as it was. For those of you who this security change won’t affect: happy idling in the future!
