Steam input mac os big sur

Steam input mac os big sur

I have an Apple TV with Steam Link, and a Mac OS X Big Sur machine with Steam installed.

When I attempt to open Big picture on my Mac, or connect to my Mac with Steam Link, the Apple TV will say:

“Streaming requires additional driver installation.

Please follow the Steam prompts on the remote computer.”
Hi, I have noticed lots of problems with the steam input install and big sur. I’ve contacted valve regarding my issue specifically and will be posting updates.

If anyone had the same problem and knows of a solution please let us know!

When I return to my Mac it is requesting a Gamepad Driver Update.

I click the prompt which opens the “install Steam Input” installer.

I follow the prompts, input my password get to the notification that says:

“Please click the ‘Allow’ button to load system software from ‘Valve Corporation’ and/or ‘Ambrosia Software Inc’ In the Security & Privacy system settings.”

This will open my System Preferences window. I then select the Security and Privacy Icon, it is selected to General and I do not see the usual Allow prompt I would see for these kind of stuff. If I click ok on the previous prompt it will finish the installation saying success, however if I start up big picture of steam link it will request I install the driver again.

I have tried turning off SIP and enabling installing untrusted apps from any source. Neither seem to have resolved this issue.

After updating to the beta of macOS 11 Big Sur, it seems Steam does not recognise it is running on macOS, and therefore refuses to run any game. I’ve tried running Parkitect from within the steamapps folder, and that does work, indicating the problem originates within the Steam client, not individual games. I hope Steam fixes this issue soon, which is why I’ve decided to bring it to light here. I hope this is the right place to do so.

p.s. Sadly, for many of my other games (Football Manager 2020, Euro Truck Simulator 2, Hearts of Iron IV), this method does not work as it requires starting the game from within Steam. Does anyone know a quick fix to circumvent this problem for these games, or does such a fix not exist?

UPDATE: fixed in the latest beta! Just enrol in Steam’s beta program and force update your client, and play buttons will not be greyed out anymore.

Well, don’t use a OS that is still in development and will be for months before it is even fit for productive use.

Even I have noticed the same behavior. Apparently steam does not recognize the platform as a mac device. Don’t worry, steam developers might know about it as they always have to plan for os updates and changes they can do, and obviously we are into only week 1 of Big Sur. Give them time.

Even I use betas for development and bug reporting purposes, it’s natural to have these kind of bugs. I still recommend installing a windows on bootcamp, so that you can play your game whenever you want. I play CS GO most of the time, but still I have a windows handy for that.

I don’t think there would be any quick bug fixes for it, we will have to wait for steam update. Also, ignore the people who don’t provide logical answers because they might not be in your situation, but will still judge you.

Thanks for your comment. I just thought there might be a quick, DIY fix for it as it seemed like such a small issue. But I’m sure that perhaps when the public beta comes out, and more people report this issue, Steam will fix the problem as it does not really seem like a difficult fix.

Anyone able to play steam games on Big Sur?

Answers

When I opened Steam after installing Mac OS Big Sur Beta for the public I couldn’t play my game. I detailed below how I resolved my issue step by step for those who prefer a detailed explanation.

(IF YOU JUST NEED TO KNOW THE STEPS WITHOUT ALL THE DETAILED DIRECTIONS SCROLL TO BOTTOM OF THIS REPLY) I hope this is helpful.

Open the Steam application, select from the menu bar at the top, Steam->Preferences. The Preferences window opens to Account tab selected from the sidebar on left by default. On the right side your account information and options for account security, change password, and change email are displayed, below these options you will see the option Beta participation: Select the box that says CHANGE. This will open a new window read the short explanation about beta participation, below is a drop-down menu with the options NONE-OPT out of all beta programs or Steam Beta Update, select drop-down menu and Choose Steam Beta Update, Click OK. The app will notify you Steam must restart. Confirm restart. If Steam does not restart on its own open it manually. Check to see if your games are playable, your games should no longer be grayed out. I hope this helps out!

If you still are having issues I would first check for any new updates (Select Steam in the menu bar the option Check For Updates… is below Preferences in the menu) If updates are available install and restart app. Check to see if the problem was fixed. If that does not resolve your issues send feedback to steam as well as apple, include details of your issue and steps you have taken to resolve the issue.

(These issues are to be expected when using any beta version of a program or OS that is why feedback is so important the better the feedback the quicker these issues can be resolved.)

NOTE

( I ONLY HAVE USED STEAM TO PLAY KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC II AND DOING THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM FOR ME. I WILL ADD AN UPDATE IF I RUN INTO ANY ISSUES IN GAMEPLAY, BUT SO FAR SO GOOD. I CAN’T VOUCH FOR HOW WELL THIS WORKS FOR OTHER GAMES SINCE I HAVE NOT PLAYED ANYTHING ELSE.)

Here is a quick instruction for anyone who doesn’t need every step explained. LOL!

1) Open Steam App.

2) In the menu bar at the top select->Steam->Preferences

3) Account tab should be selected by default from the sidebar (on left)

4) On the right side you should see account information and some options for account security, change password, and change email. Below those options, you should see Beta participation: displayed with a selection box that reads CHANGE… Click on this box to open a new window with a message and a drop-down menu.

5) Click on the drop-down menu and select Steam Beta Update from the two options available, press OK to confirm your selection and receive the beta update for Steam.

Instructions if You Are Using Big Picture Mode:

Select ‘Settings’ then ‘System’
Check the ‘Participate in client beta’ option
Follow the prompt to restart Steam

Steam will alert you the Application needs to restart once the beta updates are installed, confirm to restart the app. (If it does not reopen on its own reopen the app manually) Check in your Library your games should now be playable. If you run into any bugs or issues, send a feedback report to both Steam and Apple with details of your issue. Hope this helps!

ISSUE
Since macOS Big Sur upgrade, PS4 controller via bluetooth doesn’t work with any Steam game, but does respond in Big Picture Mode. (and any other controller so it seems from discussionboards)

ISSUE DETAILS:
— Switching to Big Picture Mode prompts install controller input drivers. After running driver setup can’t ‘allow’ Valve corporation in security privacy properties.

OS
macOS Big Sur 11.0.1

STEPS
— Connect controller via Bluetooth
— Launch big picture mode (or directly launch steam)
— Installer prompts to update controller drivers
— Install drivers through input driver installer
— Select game to play from library and start (tested with Don’t Starve, Enter the Dungeon, Slay the Spire, Binding of Isaac, Untitled Goose Game)
— Gamecontroller not detected in game settings
— Steam pop-up shows in corner of screen ‘ps4 controller config loaded’

RESULTS
All game controller inputs are not detected when the game is launch, rendering games impossible to play with a game controller

EXPECTED
Game controller inputs are detected by any game and I am able to switch controls between keyboard or controller.

ATTEMPTS TO SOLVE (to no avail):
— Upgrade from Steam production to Steam beta version
— Disabling MAC System Integry Protection in terminal
— Disabling Kernel extension user consent
— Manualy adding Steam in security & privacy properties for full disk control, input control and others
— Manually adding relevant games (Don’t starve, enter the dungeon, slay the spire) to security & privacy properties
— Launching games from the library without Steam launched
— Restarting computer (duh)
— Completely deleting kernel extensions and input drivers and reinstalling

Steam input mac os big sur

I can’t use my Switch Pro controller and DS4 on M1 Mac mini with steam.

The steam app reminded me to install a driver named steam input, but I tried so many times that it can’t be installed.

All controllers can use for the steam app itself, but can’t play games like Stardew Valley.

The trouble is that even with a controller that is natively supported on the M1 machines, it won’t actually work within the games. It does not matter which type. I have an N30 Pro 2, which has four modes. Each is actually supported by the computer (MacBook Air 2020) but rendered useless by Steam. Why they have not recompiled, I have no idea. The tools are very available.

Kernel extensions have been deprecated since macOS Big Sur. Therefore, the driver is useless. Apple already has native support for the XBOX One and DualShock 4 controllers. Why not just buy and use one of those? I highly doubt Apple is going to make a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller driver. Those things don’t even have analog triggers.

Failed to install Steam-Input too, M1 MacBook Pro. I see the new Xbox Series Controller is native supported by Mac, it works well in browser, could play the google’s in-browser game.

But i can not play any steam games, some games like Stardew Valley, all controller keys not works, And some games like Super Bit Blaster XL, only direction keys works.
