Does the steam link now officially work with Mac and OSX? Can’t seem to find a full confirmation apart from the store page —
A host computer running SteamOS, or Steam Big Picture Mode on Windows Vista or newer, Mac OS X 10.10 (Yosemite) or newer, Linux Ubuntu 12.04 or newer.

Still a lot of sites saying it doesn’t?

Mac + Link user here. It’s certainly better now than it was on day one, but if you want a flawless experience after opening the box then you should probably keep waiting.

On a wired connection, graphics performance is as advertised. I can’t speak to audio because I have an admittedly bad system, but audio from the game comes out of my TV with little to no latency.

Things start getting hairy with controllers. Xbox 360 controllers currently don’t work as advertised when plugged directly into the Link. I’m also running into weird issues with any game that requires mouse input forcing the cursor to be always present on screen. The Steam Controller works, but has acted up recently. Aparently this has been patched, but I’ve yet to test.

Ultimately, it’s come a long way in 2 months. When it arrived on my doorstep on 10/15/15, it was a paperweight. Now, I can play games on it with some frustrations and workarounds. Is it perfect? No. Do I feel entirely confident it will be ready for primetime in a few months? Absolutely.

I’m using steam link + steam controller on a mac pro.

Well, some games work great, but many have issues.

— Often the mouse courser is present on the TV even it’s hidden on the monitor and the game does not require a mouse. But the mouse curser is always in the middle of the screen, so at least you can use it to aim 🙂

— It happens that games to not respond to controller input. Switching back and forth and reconfigure the controller works, but in some cases the game does not respond to the controller input at all and you need to get up and restart it from the Mac directly.

— For some games, the recommended controller setup does not work. I belive this is not mac specific.

— Some games crash for weird reasons. «Thief» crashes once I bind shift (sprint) to any controller key. Sprinting from the keyboard works fine. Sprinting with the controller leads the game to quit instantly. I had similiar issues in two other games.

I think there should be a troubleschooting mode where the controller just emulates the regular system mouse and a full keyboard (where key combinations can be pressed). Then it would be possible to kill (cmd+q) and restart a game without haveing to leave the couch.

So right now I would not say that it is really an alternative to a playstation or xbox when used on a mac. I still don’t regret it as there are working games and then it’s quite fun.

The PS3 controller is not supported wirelessly on the link. However, wired works. It also works when you pair it with the computer and not with link — but then you need another controller on the link to start the stream / the game.

I’ve read that the PS4 controlles should work via bluetooth with the link.

Yes, the cursor thingy is very annoying. I brought that up in another thread and reported it as bug. It seems to be known and happen to all users on the mac.

I do not have any sound problems using HDMI. It «just works». But I’ve read about some issues with 5.1 sound. not sure if this is affecting you.

Steam link is indeed just a very fast way to stream what is displayed on the desktop. You can also minimize steam big picture and play video — I think this is pretty cool and works a lot better than airplay.

Links is more or less a remote control tool. So you can also have fancy effects if you have active corners configured. For example expose when moving the mouse into the top left corner. Whatever happens with the mouse on the computer might happen using the steamlink and the controller.

But. it seems like they’re working very hard to get these things sorted out. I have beta update (yes, switch to steam and link beta!) almost every 3-4 days. Everytime with a quite good list of improvements (not necessarily affecting mac issues, but you can see that there’s a lot going on).

Lacks Native Support/ Touch Screen

For me the only controllers I own are some Xbox controllers. The problem is the lack of support for touch screen. I used to play a lot of touch screen games when I was younger. Now that I’m older; I’m fine playing them casually in another room. However, when trying to play games I found myself having no easy native controls. With me having to mingle with each game. This app works perfectly. If you have good internet and a good computer. The result is very visually appeasing with close to no lag. To me steam should have built some more features. Like remote using of the PC. Like being able to use mouse and keyboard mode on the computer with steam minimized. You are able to do this as I clicked out of the game and had remote access of the PC. Additionally PC remote controls like turn on from sleep or turn off. I’m aware that other programs have these capabilities; Integration of these services with steam link would be a very impressive way to get people using the app. Overall very satisfied. Would recommend to a friend.

amazing but just needs 2 things

Steam link is just absolutely great and i love it so much!! im able to play The Forest and Friday The 13th and its just so amazing but theres just one problem. i am unable to shift/Run when i play with my buttons on screen so it would be great if there was a button or maybe having to double tap and hold the joystick and is it possible for us to be able to play with our laptop offline and maybe being really really really far apart from our laptop because something like that would be really helpful when trying to play from another location on your phone instead of having to play while your at home 🏡 and okay now this will be the last thing i promise haha but um is there any possible way that the buttons on the controller can be customized in their size because if i have a small phone i wanna make sure i can see a lot of the screen and sometimes some buttons just cover most of the screen so if you guys could cover these things it would be amazing. Thank you so much for your time and you guys are doing amazing so keep at it

Usually works well, needs some additional features

I have been using this to play a number of PC games on my iPhone. In general it works very well, occasionally requiring a reset that usually fixes things.

My biggest issue with it is that there are a few commands hard coded into the app that sometimes conflict with certain games. Most notably, holding down the Y button on the controller brings up the session manager overlay. However some games require you to hold down Y for various things, and the app makes that input Impossible.

Sea of thieves is a good example, where you have to hold down Y to interact with lots of things, but doing so is impossible while playing through this app. This function should be remappable, or at least moved to hold down start or something less commonly used in games.

Облачный гейминг рулит!

Отличное решение для облачного гейминга. Steam сделали вещь, аплодирую, молодцы! В комментах люди не совсем понимают, что иметь свой комп не обязательно. Можно просто воспользоваться облaчным игровым сервисом и своим аккаунтом в Steam. И ещё если у вас тугой инет, то данное приложение не стоит ставить. А тем более потом писать негативные отзывы.

Всё работает идеально, iPad2018 через 5ГГц wifi Tenda AC1200 через кабель к xeon1270+gtx1060.
Наконец-то можно перед сном в кровати комфортно прожить несколько лет жизнью династии в Crusaders Kings 2 — достроить Великий Дворец в Брно и отжать титул у соседнего языческого дикаря 🙂
Ну или губить и растлевать души пачками в GTA V, пока сидишь в туалете.

В пошаговые стратегии играю прям с экрана планшета, используя его как трекпад с курсором. В шутеры, вроде Gears of War 5, конечно, желательно контроллер использовать.
