На сайте не раз публиковались материалы о том, как отключить обновления Windows 10 вручную или с помощью различных бесплатных программ. Однако, по мере выхода новых версий ОС некоторые старые методы и утилиты перестают работать, а потому дополнительные инструменты для этих целей не помешают.

В этом обзоре об отключении автоматических обновлений с помощью бесплатной программы Greatis StopUpdates10 (доступна на русском языке) и дополнительных функциях, доступных в этой утилите. Есть и еще одна очень похожая по функциям программа — Windows Update Blocker, также рекомендую к рассмотрению.

Используем StopUdpates10 чтобы отключить обновления Windows 10

В общем случае для того, чтобы отключить автоматические обновления Windows в StopUpdates10 достаточно выполнить лишь один шаг: нажать по кнопке «Запрет обновлений Windows» и через короткое время вы увидите сообщение о том, что обновления Windows заблокированы (а также предложение скачать другие программы разработчика, что не обязательно). Также в главном окне вы сможете снова включить обновления, если это потребуется.

В программе есть и дополнительные возможности, которые могут оказаться полезными для некоторых пользователей:

1. Если зайти в меню Файл — Настройки, на вкладке «Только для Опытных» вы можете изменить параметры отключения обновлений.
2. На вкладке «Запретить процессы» можно включить или отключить процессы, участвующие в механизме обновлений Windows 10 и предыдущих версий.
3. Вкладка «Запретить службы» позволяет заблокировать дополнительные службы по их имени (имя можно взять в свойствах службы в services.msc) и, при отключении обновлений, StopUpdates10 будет также блокировать указанные вами системные службы.
4. В меню «Инструменты» вы можете обновить защитник Windows 10 даже если обновления отключены.

В целом, на момент написания обзора, всё работает исправно, можно использовать, VirusTotal не сообщает о каких-либо проблемах.

Как обычно попробовал, но отключать и менять ничего не стал и так всё отключено Windows 7 на 10 не буду пробовать пока нет потребности. Так вот по играв заметил одну особенность что когда в настройках доходишь до вкладки (Запретить службы) или с разу к ней то утилита зависает напрочь оба окна как вкопанные, а при клике мышки только системный звук приходится тушить через ДЗ при чём такое на обеих версиях утилиты. В общем для меня не критично, но как-то не по себе от такого а что будет делать не опытный пользователь в панике делать ресет выключать питание и т.д. со всеми вытекающими последствиями. ИМХО
В любом случае сложил в архив и убрал на полку при случае воспользуюсь новинкой.

Извечный вопрос — а так ли важно вообще обновляться? Понятно, что с каждым обновлением Вин10 всё беспощаднее жрет память и ресурсы…
Если остаться на условно версии 1803, ничего же плохого?
Какую версию предпочитаете вы, Дмитрий, или всегда обновляетесь до последней?

Здравствуйте. Всегда обновляюсь до последней. Но со мной-то понятно — если бы я сидел сейчас на 1803, мой сайт бы уже совсем неактуален стал.

Но вообще и для других я бы все-таки тоже рекомендовал обновляться. Насчет «беспощадности» я бы сказал, что это преувеличение.

Потерян пароль входа WIN 7 после загрузки комп. Требует диск, которого нет. Что делать,переуст. другую Win не хочется. Или есть другое?

Можно сбросить пароль 7-ки (но придется где-то сделать загрузочную флешку с 7-кой для этого). Инструкция такая и у меня на сайте есть и на других ресурсах.

Здравствуйте, посоветуйте решить проблему с обновлением виндовс.
Поиграл с программами отключения обновлений виндовс, отключением служб и теперь не обновляется… Программа для диагностики и исправлений тоже не работает…

Здравствуйте. Многие из тех программ умеют также и включать обратно, например, ShutUP10 с этим справляется обычно хорошо — попробуйте.

how to stop windows 10 upgrade assistant from constantly appearing every time I sign into my computer and open my internet

From november to december 2017 my computer keep trying to update to version 1709 .23 times it fail, so I hide the update so that it would not continue. 2018 around the end of febuary every time I sign into my computer and open my internet I get a windows 10 update assistant that tells me that I need security updates however Before this can be done they need to download and update the current version of windows 10. After hours of downloading and installing I am then advised that my computer will need to be restarted to complete the process. It gets to about 20% my computer starts to overheat and then the computer shuts down. When I restart after allowing it to cool down it state trying to recover and then goes to reverting to your previous version.

I want this to stop, when i check my update history it shows nothing regarding this so called update. I have tried uninstalling the windows upgrade assistant through uninstalling the program, however it continues to return, I have disconnected internet acess when it starts over again and then get a error message. please help or advise what i can do. Thankyou

Hi Susanne. I’m Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

What I would do if you haven’t yet is manually install Fall Creator Version 1709 by downloading and installing Media Creation Tool from this link and then choose to Upgrade This PC Now. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m. .

This the most stable method to upgrade to the new version (which you need anyway) and will bring you fully up to date with reinstalled Windows that often will solve any other problems you have.

You can use the same tool to download the ISO or create bootable media so you only need to do it once, and have the bootable media for repairs or possible Clean Install.

If there are any hurdles during the Upgrade see these steps to optimize the install as this is evidence it’s corrupted: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.

If Version 1709 causes problems go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki.

If problems persist you can also roll it back within 10 days at Settings > Update & Security > Recovery and block it using the Hide Updates tool or another method here to wait to see if it matures: https://www.howtogeek.com/224471/how-to-prevent.

But remember that a factory or Upgrade install are inferior installs that most enthusiasts would never run in the first place because they’d expect endless issues. I would suggest you to go through the below methods:

Method 1: Try to uninstall the two updates which is responsible for windows 10 upgrade

1. Click Start, type: cmd then right click cmd and click Run as administrator)
2. Click Command Prompt (Admin)
3. At the command prompt, enter the following commands:
wusa /uninstall /kb:3035583
wusa /uninstall /kb:2952664
4. Exit the command prompt.
5. Terminate the GWX.exe process using Task Manager. Moreover rename the GWXUXWorker.exe and GWX.exe to .old as suffix from directory location:- Windows\System32\GWX, if getting any issues while renaming then give the system permission’s to respective files and then try to rename it again. OR you can delete the entire directory folder.
6. Reboot the computer.

Method 2: Please follow the below steps to hide an update.

1. Open the Control Panel (icons view), and click/tap on the Windows Update icon.
2. After Windows Updates or you check for updates, click/tap on the update(s) is available link.
3. Right click or press and hold on a listed Windows Update that you want to hide, then click/tap on Hide Update.
4. If prompted by UAC, then click/tap on Yes or enter the administrator’s password.
5. You will now notice that the now hidden Windows Update is grayed out. Repeat steps 3 and 4 to hide another Windows Update. When done, click/tap on OK.

Although Microsoft is saying that they are not forcing anyone to upgrade to Windows 10. there are reports that Windows 7 is indeed being forcefully upgraded to Windows 10 or that Microsoft is offering only two choices to Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 users now, and that is to upgrade to Windows now or tonight. While Windows 10 is a good free upgrade, there are some who may want to stop Windows 10 from upgrading their computers automatically. If you are one of those, then this post offers some ways to block the upgrade.

Stop Windows 10 from upgrading your computer

While many suggest that you Turn Off Windows Update, it is not a solution as it will also deny your system from getting security and other important Windows Updates. Depending on which stage you are in right now, here are a few suggestions we have to offer:

1] If you are a system administrators who wants to prevent Windows 7, Windows 7 for Embedded Systems, Windows 8.1 and Windows Embedded 8.1 Pro clients from downloading Windows 10 and upgrading to it, you can use the Group Policy or Registry to stop automatic downloading of Windows 10 to your computer.

2] You can also block automatic Windows 10 Upgrade using GPO or Registry on your Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 PCs.

3] Set your network connection to Metered. This can also stop Windows 10 from automatically downloading the Updates. You can use the CMD method mentioned in the linked post. In Windows 8.1, you can turn it on from PC Settings > Devices pane

4] You can make Windows notify you before downloading Updates. When you see the Upgrade being offered, refuse it. The link shows the Group Policy & Registry methods, which you can apply on Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 too.

5] GWX Control Panel for Windows 8.1 and Windows 7, will let you disable automatic Windows 10 upgrade. It is a simple, safe and free program which not only lets you disable ‘Get Windows 10 app, but also gives you full control over Upgrade to Windows 10 notification, automatic download of Windows 10 installation files and detect and remove the files if any, and more! Basically, its job is to protect you from Windows 10 upgrade and alerts.

6] Has Windows 10 started upgrading your computer automatically? If the Windows 10 upgrade has already commenced, Windows 10 will first offer you two options Schedule it for later or Start the upgrade now or whether to upgrade to Windows now or tonight.

Subsequently it will want you to accept the EULA. Click on Decline and the upgrade process will stop right away.

If your computer has already been upgraded to Windows 10, you have the option to rollback Windows 10 to your previous version of Windows.

Basically, I’d want to stop the auto upgrade of windows versions.

Let’s say I’m currently on the 1709 version of windows 10, and I want to permanently stay on this version until I decide to manually upgrade to a newer version.

I don’t want Windows Update to stop working, however.
I want it to continue to do its job, downloading and installing all other updates (critical and security, above all), until the version of windows 10 I run it’s supported by Microsoft, of course.

Is this possible?

However, I didn’t have that registry key on my test laptop (method 2), but I created it and gave it a try.

If your edition is not Home edition, you can defer the feature upgrade via UI, registry and GPO:

Here is official document states how to defer the feature upgrade:

1. Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

2. Under Update settings, select Advanced options.

3. Select Defer upgrades. (Note: If your PC is managed by an organization, you may not be able to defer upgrades.)

Configure Windows Update for Business

Please be awared that you can only defer it not block it forever as your desired.

If you want to keep one version a litter longer, LTSB edition is a good choice for you.
