Please remove «conflicts=(‘sublime-text’)» in PKGBUILD. ST3 and ST4 runs very well together. Its even official in docs @ https://www.sublimetext.com/docs/side_by_side.html Just make sure to install binary file to subl (ST4) and subl3 (ST3) Many people run at least two different versions O_o

@SunRed When I tried to build this package, I got an error that the icon files already exist. I have Sublime Text 3 installed.

I deleted it from PKGBUILD: — — for rest in 128×128 16×16 256×256 32×32 48×48; up to — install -dm755 «$/usr/share/icons/hicolor/$/apps» — ln -s «/opt/sublime_text/Icon/$/sublime-text.png» «$/usr/share/icons/hicolor/$/apps/sublime-text.png» — done

And it helped to establish. I think it’s worth adding a check for the presence of icons.

@marcospb19 I wasn’t aware of this feature in yay despite me using it as well or rather that people use it in this way. I’ve set conflicts/provides only as a means for dependencies to be resolved so that this package can be used instead of the official package in place and possible packages that depend on this to have a working dependency. And hence that is only the case for the actual sublime-text package and nothing more. With a possible ‘sublime’ package this could lead to problems and confusion imo.

Hey, do you think that this package should provide «sublime» in addition to the already provided «sublime-text»? I added both to aur/sublime-text-3, so people can install it by typing yay -S sublime .

I was thinking about removing «sublime» from the provided list for the ST3 package, but wanted to ask first, what do you think? (this one is more recent, so I don’t want people downloading older versions accidentally).

To cut down the amount of packages to be maintained and to decrease confusion, this package is now used for the ‘dev’ branch of Sublime Text that is kept up to date with the most recent version. Users who want to stay on the latest legacy versions or the most recent stable release should stick to the respective stable release packages (sublime-text-3, sublime-text-4) or use the official repos provided by Sublime Text.

@davidgxxl As the page of the upstream url mentions, Sublime Text dev builds are available to licensed users only. Hence you should use sublime-text-4 or the official package that doesn’t require a license. I should probably add an additional notice to the pacman hook about this and maybe update the package description accordingly.

For Sublime Text 4 Dev you need a Sublime Text 3 Dev license. Regular Sublime 3 Text licenses do not work.

There’s no need to do these tricks to add support for other architectures. They can be added by appending an underscore and the architecture name, e.g. source_x86_64=(); sha256sums_x86_64().

Support for aarch64 was added using SKIP on sha256sums as suggested. But I am unable to test if it works on aarch64, if doesn’t add a comment with possible fix.

This crate is up to date with the the stable releases of Sublime Text 3, which stopped at build 3211 (October 2019), because sublime-text-4 is being developed, so this is the latest non-paid version.

The sublime-text-4 newer releases (those require paid license) are available at: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/sublime-text-4-dev

Newer builds are officially published in a discord server, and the package above does keep it up to date with it.

Clarification: any question about changing the installation path will most likely be ignored as there is no practical way of doing so without conflicting with other packages or breaking users systems.

Do you understand that I CANNOT change the installation path of ST4 to a different path? I DO NOT maintain that package, and I have already talked to developers of Sublime Text DIRECTLY.

They told me NOT TO DO THIS.

It’s intended to be shipped this way, every link online says that it’s installed at the same path, they say it’s installed at /usr/bin/subl, how am I supposed to change it suddenly?

Creating a symlink to /usr/bin/subl to the /usr/bin/subl3 would still conflict with ST2 ST4 in all their different packages, because the other packages NOT MAINTAINED BY ME use that same file.

@NullRoute, please, do not mark this package as outdated because it is not, I won’t change it to subl3 because this is not how the official sublime text organization intended to ship their binary.

Again, all tutorials in the internet tell the user «type subl in the terminal», you’re suggesting a breaking and unnecessary change, both packages conflict because the released binaries are supposed to be named subl .

Because of this, ST2, ST3 and ST4 packages will conflict.

After your comment I went to the official Discord server just to be 101% sure, and yeah, I got the confirmation that this is the right decision to make.

Also, note that I cannot change ST2 or ST4 packages, I can only change ST3’s one, so your suggestion would not work (don’t forget that there are multiple other packages, not only three).

@ marcospb19, What are you talking about? You can modify PKGBUILD path easily! Just change this line here; ln -s «/opt/sublime_text_3/sublime_text» «$/usr/bin/subl» to ln -s «/opt/sublime_text_3/sublime_text» «$/usr/bin/subl3″ I have both packages installed as «/usr/bin/subl2» and «/usr/bin/subl3» and they both wor flawlessly.

Hey NullRoute, thanks for your suggestion, unfortunately this is not possible, I don’t maintain ST2 and ST4 packages, so I could not make them install to another path, also, subl is the name for multiple package managers, not only AUR, so in any forum comment, article, blog, or tutorial, the command is subl and not subl3 , changing it would make the location inconsistent.

So the solution is to do it manually, you can install ST3, copy the binary to /usr/bin/subl3, and then install ST2, I think it works as expected as both require libpng and gtk2 , so you’ll certainly have both installed (however, note that ST2 requires stuff that is not included in the ST3 package, so installing ST2 before ST3).

Sublime Text 2 should work fine with Sublime Text 3, please remove «sublime-text2» from conflicts list and instead install v3 as /usr/bin/subl3 and v2 as /usr/bin/subl2 Because some of us still prefer to use v2 and v3 at same time. Thank you!

Установка Sublime Text 4 в Linux

Если вы занимаетесь программированием в той или иной форме, то вам необходим хороший редактор кода. Существует множество редакторов кода для программистов, на нашем сайте уже не раз упоминалось о них, в том числе и о редакторе Uncoded, о котором вы можете прочесть перейдя по этой ссылке. Сегодня же речь пойдет о еще одном хорошем редакторе кода – Sublime Text 4. Вполне возможно, вы уже сталкивались с ним, видели его или читали о нем. Sublime Text предоставляет все необходимое для работы с кодом. Так же вы можете расширить его функционал установив необходимые расширения. С последней версией, а именно Sublime Text 4 изменился так же и его внешний вид, нельзя сказать что кардинально, но все же.

Да, этот редактор кода не бесплатный, в отличии скажем от того же Uncoded или Atom, но можно использовать бесплатную версию не ограниченное время, так же это никак не скажется на функционале. А о бесплатной версии вам будет напоминать лишь периодически появляющееся окно в котором вам будет предложено купить его.

Устанавливаем Sublime Text 4 в Debian / Ubuntu

И так, давайте перейдем к установке Sublime Text 4 в дистрибутивах основанных на Deb пакетах, это Debian, Ubuntu, MX Linux, Linux Mint и так далее. Первым делом необходимо добавить репозиторий из которого и будет произведена установка. Открываем терминал и вводим команду:

Далее нужно загрузить и добавить в систему GPG ключ, предварительно у вас должна быть установлена утилита “wget, устанавливается она командой “”sudo apt install wget”. А так же установлен пакет “apt-transport-https”, для установки данного пакета, а так же добавления GPG ключей вводим следующую последовательность команд:

Осталось обновить списки пакетов и можно приступать к установке Sublime Text 4 в дистрибутивах Linux основанных на Deb пакетах:

После установки запускаем редактор кода Sublime Text и можем приступать к работе:

Устанавливаем Sublime Text 4 в Fedora

Установка Sublime Text 4 в дистрибутиве Fedora отличается от установки в Deb ориентированных системах. В Fedora установка Sublime Text выглядит немного проще, так как меньше команд придется задействовать что бы установить данный редактор кода. И так, давайте сначала загрузим и добавим в систему GPG ключи:

Добавляем репозиторий, из которого и будет установлен этот редактор кода:

Осталось лишь выполнить команду для установки, давайте введем ее в терминале и установим Sublime Text 4:

Устанавливаем Sublime Text 4 в Arch / Manjaro

В дистрибутивах основанных на Arch установку Sublime Text 4 можно осуществить несколькими способами, к примеру установить из репозитория AUR, либо, добавить репозиторий от самих разработчиков данного редактора кода. Думаю, правильней будет установка из репозиториев которые предоставляются разработчиками Sublime Text. Так мы и сделаем, первым делом загрузим и добавим в систему GPG ключи, предварительно установив curl, если конечно он у вас не установлен. Вводим команды на установку curl, а затем загружаем GPG ключи:

И осталось лишь произвести установку, вводим команду, которая обновит списки пакетов и установит Sublime Text 4:

После установки можно запустить редактор кода и начать кодить в свое удовольствие.

Заключение

В свое время я много работал с Sublime Text, начинал я с версии Sublime Text 2. Правда, на данный момент использую другой редактор кода, но, в любом случае, не редактор кода пишет сам код, тут все зависит от личных предпочтений. Пощупав Sublime Text 4, могу сказать что это все тот же старый добрый редактор, который и был, правда, добавились современные плюшки, изменился интерфейс и так далее, все на современный лад. Как уже говорилось выше, демонстрационная версия не ограничивает сам функционал редактора, вам об этом будет напоминать лишь периодически всплывающее окно, закрыв которое, можно спокойно продолжать кодить дальше. При необходимости конечно, можно приобрести Sublime Text 4, заплатив за лицензию.
