There is a new driver (version 5.2.3531.26) that was released by Lenovo on May 3rd 2018 for that device, so if you are not running that version you should download and install it to see if it resolves your issue. My guess is that it was released due to the issue you are seeing.

Note: If your model is not a Type 20HN, 20HM, make sure to select the correct model on the pages linked below.

Sorry to hear that it is still not working

Unfortunately there is no way I know of to clear the supervisor password for the BIOS other than replacing the motherboard, because it is a low level security feature designed to prevent access to anyone other than the person who set the password.

Thinkpad x270 fingerprint reader no longer working

I recently applied the Windows 10 April update to my x270. Everything worked okay however Windows Hello and the fingerprint reader no longer work.

I have checked the Biometric settings in device manager and the Synaptics WBDI (SGX enabled) device is showing the following status

«This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

The requested operation was unsuccessful».

I have checked everything is enabled in the Bios and also uninstalled and resinstalled the device from Lenovo.

Has anyone else experienced this issue. Is it a driver incompatability with updated windows 10?

Is there an updated driver somewhere please?

It’s all caused by the dreaded Windows Update 1803.

A simple driver update doesn’t work. I tried and failed.

This guy’s method, however works:

Just make sure, that you download exactly the packages he links to and that you first uninstall (delete) the device entirely (when asked, check ‘also delete software’) from device manager before you install the package.

The 5.2.3527.26 package needs to be about 27 Mb in size! It seems to install the device from scratch, but definitely more than the only 6 Mb large 5.2.3631.26 package.

Btw, I know the first package says it’s for a different Thinkpad ( ThinkPad A275, A475 ), but I used it on my P51 and it did do the trick.

When the fingerprint scanner works again with installation of the first package, you can safely install the second package (only about 6 Mb in size) and this will update your system with the correct driver for your machine 5.2.3531.26.

None of these solutions are working for my laptop Lenovo Thinkpad x270.

It’s a shame that Lenovo & Windows are causing so much troubles to its users.

I feel abandoned & will have to reset my laptop to its original state.
