Specifies one or more actions to take if a service fails.

For examples of how to use this command, see Examples.

Syntax

Parameters

Specifies the name of the remote server on which the service is located. The name must use the Universal Naming Convention (UNC) format (for example, \\myserver). To run SC.exe locally, omit this parameter.

Specifies the service name returned by the getkeyname operation.

Specifies the length of the period (in seconds) with no failures after which the failure count should be reset to 0 (zero). Note that this parameter requires the actions= parameter.

Specifies the message to be broadcast when a service fails.

Specifies the command-line command to be run when the specified service fails. For more information about how to run a batch or VBS file on failure, see Remarks.

Specifies one or more failure actions and their delay times (in milliseconds), separated by a forward slash (/). Valid actions are run, restart, and reboot. If more than one action is specified, each action must be separated by a forward slash. Use actions= «» to take no action a service fails. Note that this parameter requires the reset= parameter.

Displays help at the command prompt.

Remarks

Not all services allow changes to their failure options. Some run as part of a service set.

To run a batch file when a service fails, specify command=В Cmd.exe**В **Drive:\FileName.bat, where Drive:\FileName.bat is the fully qualified name of the batch file.

To run a VBS file when a service fails, specify command=В CscriptВ Drive:\MyScript.vbs, where Drive:\MyScript.vbs is the fully qualified name of the script file.

You can specify up to three separate actions with the actions=В parameter, to be used the first, second, and third times that a service fails.

For each command-line option (parameter), the equal sign is part of the option name.

A space is required between an option and its value (for example, actions=В restart). If the space is omitted, the operation will fail.

ERROR_FAIL_NOACTION_REBOOT is a system error and it’s usually represented with No action was taken as a system reboot is required message.

This error can affect any Windows operating system, and Windows 10 is no exception, so today we’re going to show you how to fix it properly.

How do I fix ERROR_FAIL_NOACTION_REBOOT?

1. Check your antivirus

If you want to keep your PC safe from online threats, it’s important to have a proper antivirus tool installed.

However, third-party antivirus software might enforce certain policies that interfere with your system and cause this and other errors to appear.

Usually, the cause for this problem is a security feature that interferes with your system, so you need to find that feature and disable it. This isn’t a simple task, especially if you’re not familiar with antivirus and system security

If you can’t find the problematic feature, you can disable your antivirus entirely and check if that solves the problem. Lastly, you can also try to remove your antivirus as a potential solution.

However, since leaving your device protected also comes with a lot of risks, we recommend using VIPRE as a more reliable antivirus, with minimal impact on your system performance.

Of course, the impact is not fully reduced, as the tool needs resources to run real-time protection and offer increased security against online threats.

But the number of false positives detected by VIPRE – that is, the good processes that the antivirus detects as potentially harmful – is considerably lower compared to other similar software in the industry.

2. Remove problematic apps

Several users reported this error message while using Plex. According to them, they managed to fix the problem by removing the application with IObit Uninstaller.

This is an uninstaller software and it will remove all files and registry entries associated with the application. After the application is completely removed, you can install it again and check if the problem appears.

Keep in mind that this error can appear with other applications as well, so be sure to remove them with uninstaller software and then reinstall them.

3. Keep your system up to date

1. Press Windows Key + I to open the Settings app.
2. Navigate to the Update & security section.
   
3. Now click on Check for updates button.
   

Windows will now check for updates. If any are available, Windows will download them in the background and install them once you restart your PC. After updating your PC, check if the problem still persists.

Windows 10 usually automatically downloads updates in the background, but sometimes you can miss an important update. This is why it’s necessary that you check for updates manually.

4. Reinstall Visual C++ Redistributables

Many Windows applications require Visual C++ Redistributables in order to work. Sometimes system errors such as this one can occur if you don’t have the necessary Redistributables installed.

Run a System Scan to discover potential errors

Keep in mind that different programs tend to use different versions of Redistributables, so you might have to download and install more than one version.

On the other hand, sometimes this issue can appear with the problematic Visual C++ Redistributables installation. If that’s the case, you need to remove (using the IObit Uninstaller we mentioned earlier) and reinstall all redistributables.

5. Use Microsoft Fix it application

Microsoft offers a free troubleshooter that you can download and fix corrupted registry keys or other problems related to installation or removal of other software.

You can download this tool and run it on your PC. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the removal process.

In addition, you might want to check for any leftover files in the installation directory and remove them manually.

After doing that, you should be able to reinstall the faulty app without any problems.

6. Create a new user account

1. Open the Settings app and navigate to the Accounts section.
   
2. Navigate to the Family & other people in the menu on the left.
3. Click on Add someone else to this PC.
   
4. Click on I don’t have this person’s sign-in information.
   
5. Select Add a user without aMicrosoft account.
   
6. Enter the desired user name and click on Next.
   

After creating a new user account, switch to it and check if the error still appears.

If it doesn’t, you might want to try removing any recently installed applications and check if that solves the problem on your main account. Alternatively, you can switch to the new account and use it as your main one.

7. Perform a System Restore

1. Optional: Back up recently saved files before using System Restore.
2. Press Windows Key + S and choose Create a restore point from the menu.
   
3. Click on System Restore button.
   
4. When System Restore window opens, click on Next.
5. Check Show more restore points option, select the desired restore point and click on Next.
   
6. Follow the instructions to complete the restoration.

After restoring your system, check if the error still appears. System Restore is fast and simple way to fix computer problems, so be sure to try it out.

8. Reset Windows 10

If none of the previous solutions can fix the problem, you might want to consider resetting Windows 10.

This process will delete all files from your system drive, so be sure to back them up. We also have to mention that this process might require a Windows 10 installation media, so be sure to create it.

To reset Windows 10, do the following:

1. Open the Start Menu and click the Power button.
2. Press and hold the Shift key and choose Restart from the menu.
   
3. In the list of options, you’ll get, choose Troubleshoot.
4. Then select Reset this PC and Remove everything. (You might need to insert your Windows 10 installation media during this step, so be sure to have it ready.)
5. Select your version of Windows and choose Only the drive where Windows is installed.
6. Next, choose Just remove my files.
7. You’ll now see a list of files that the reset will remove. Once you’re ready to start, click on Reset button.
8. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the reset process.

After resetting Windows 10 you’ll have a fresh installation. Now you just have to install all your applications and check if the problem is resolved.

This is a drastic solution and it will remove all your files from the system drive, so use it as a last resort.

I’d suggest you visit HP website again, look for the latest drivers for your device, download and install them and check if the issue persists.

Windows 7 relies upon the HP driver to tell it which button the «Scan Button» actually is.

This is why it is greyed out in this instance- the applet does not know which button press to watch for.

That being the case, the only way to get the Scan Button to work as you desire is if HP comes out with an updated driver.

Unfortunately, there is no way to do this.

Windows talks to the driver to get this information and if there is no driver available, then there is nothing for Windows to get the information from.

Your best bet is to contact HP and ask if they have any kind of driver for this device, be that a universal driver or a developmental or checked driver.

In order to utilise the btns on the printer it requires the full feature software from that printer maker.

The built in windows update driver provides only basic functionality

There is no hack/registry setting or anything else you can add which will enable the functionality of the Btns, when using the basic driver.

(This applies to all printer makers, not just HP)

Default play options for an audio CD is a little different to mapping scanner buttons generically. Are your scanner buttons in the same order as mine on the Canon Lide 30?

I have Copy, Print and Mail in that order. The buttons haven’t worked for me since November 2006. Had I known when I bought the scanner that the buttons would only be useful for three of the nine years in my possession, I would have picked a model without buttons.. 🙂
