Windows and Doors Stencil Test Drive

Jessica Sporn’s Windows and Doors stencil spoke to me the moment I saw it. I love love love doors and windows- my kids tease me about how I get excited about the shapes of doors and windows on vacation. Just now I even spotted a mysterious friend in the center window (actually it is just where the paint peeled off the stencil but I am watching Ghost Hunters as I type this)…

I’m not the only one in love with this stencil. Pop over and check out what the other artists have made with this stencil for this Stencil Test Drive!

and of course, the one who designed this great stencil, Jessica Sporn!

This is one of my favorite places to clean off my brayer when I am Gelli printing, an old vintage ledger.

Stenciled on just the windows and the repeating pattern felt good. Does that ever happen to you when you create- does it ever just feel good all the way down to your toes? I debated leaving it at this stage because I just loved looking at it. But eventually, I persuaded myself to add a quote.

The quote was printed on an ink jet printer. Since the ink will run if wet mediums are used, I turned to my handy PanPastels. Once again, PanPastels delivered rich bright colors without smearing my cheap ink jet printer ink!

Just a few days until A Colorful Workshop: Gelli Printing begins- I can hardly contain myself! It’s $10 off just until April 1st. You can get all the details here.

Linking up to Paint Party Friday, Art Journal Every Day, and Creative Every Day.

Math 🙂 I love how you mimicked the brayer colors with the PanPastels. I also love how the stenciling just flows on top of each color. GREAT quote!

Love the intensity of the color here.
Rinda

Fantastic quote and a beautiful rich use of the stencil…..I can see we will all be using this one over and over again! xox

Beautiful beautiful – love the colors – the hombre effect, and the repetition of the windows. Perfect quote to go with a perfect piece. Thank you!

PS – Samy loves your voice.

PPS – having just finished your video – I love the “wonky” placement of the quote against the precise placement of the windows. You are brilliant!

I agree with everything Jessica said!

Forgot to mention, that I adore your sense of humor too!

You were killing me with that measuring; especially first thing in the morning. Seriously.. what a colorful page. I learn so much from your fearless approach. Great quote, too.

I love this Carolyn. I need to order this stencil…and what a great idea to color the words with panpastels!

Measure? What is this strange word you use? Love how you used that stencil and I really enjoyed the video. Wonky is always good!

very nice!
I love the colors!

Gotta love those vibrant colors!! fabulous projects using the stencil along with quotes Carolyn!

This is a great stencil. I love how you gradated the color and continued it with the pan pastels on the words. Love this page!

Great tips and ideas thank you. Love your videos and what a fantastic stencil!

P.S AND the page is lovely! Sorry I forgot to say that!

Carolyn, Love your orange and pink page. Also love the wonky words!!

Corrine recently convinced me to throw away my ruler and obsession to measure! Oh, my! Where did I put it? Seriously, I love these windows and that quote is spot on! Excited to learn that the background is Gelli “waste!” Awesome, Carolyn!

Nice work, Jessica’s stencil is great! Valerie

Great idea, fantastic color. Thanks and Happy PPF

Wonderful image. I live the stencil and the colours you used. thanks for sharing

This is lovely….I love the fact you can see the old ledger entry through the paint, I love the colours, I love the stencilling and I really love the way the quote has been added:)

SwooN. I do love a good stencil – bright colors and great blog post Carolyn! thanks for sharing!

Nicely done, Carolyn. The colors are wonderful and I love that old ledger. Windows and doors hold such mystery – looking inside, the face they present to others. I think the stencil holds so much creativity as to what stories it can tell through your beautiful interpretation.

I love it! This was a very simple but effective way to use Jessica’s stencil in your design. Paschal Blessings!
