The escapists linux
I’d love to see this game come over to Linux. That would probably be when I would then purchase this game is if it makes its way across to Linux. I’m waiting and hoping for it to before I decide to purchase The Escapist. Having sat through and watch a popular funny Irish YouTuber named JackSepticEye the game intrigued me to want to play it. But when I saw the game only runs on one platform it kinda turned me away from it a little.
All I ask is the developers to sell to other platforms too so more people can enjoy it, not just Linux but Mac too.
Hmm
do you have a PS4/XboxOne?
those have the escapists
first mac, then linux, more people have a mac then linux ;P, but windows is still tha best
Seriously? I expect this kind of post from a Mac user, but from a Linux user, it’s just not right. You guys are supposed to be magical computer wizards, and considering the versatility of computers, there are plenty of solutions for playing this game in Linux. I don’t know why you haven’t resorted to a third party solution to this problem already.
I don’t have the energy for this so I’m just going to hit the high notes.
«A third party solution» is unacceptable. By saying that’s one of the first things we should try, you’re implying one of two things. Either we pay as much as $18 for something that has a 50/50(or lower) chance of working in WINE, DOSBox, a virtual machine, etc. OR you’re suggesting we pirate it, and I hope that’s not what you’re suggesting on the software’s Steam forums, Steam being a DRM(anti-piracy) service. So let’s just assume your suggestion is for us to buy it and bank on getting closed source, copyrighted software to function properly on a platform it wasn’t designed for. Of course if it doesn’t work, what would you suggest we do then? Should we hope we can get a refund? Hope even harder a Linux port will be made a couple years down the road? And even if it does work, and a Linux port is made later on, that purchase wouldn’t count towards the Linux side of sales, which would reflect poorly on the Linux community, implying we’re not as interested in games as we truly are, thus discouraging future Linux ports, which is also bad. There’s many different outcomes ‘buying now’ can have and none of them are worth it. «A third party solution» is not a solution.

Stop stereotyping. Not everyone’s a programming wizardry genius who can pull apps out their arse from out of thin air.
Third-Party solutions isn’t exactly gonna make people go and do it just because you tell them to do it. Running apps through WINE isn’t all that stable, and nearly 80% of some applications won’t work at all, except for the ones that have been confirmed and extensively tested. The amount of trouble of running through emulated environments to run something from another system just really isn’t worth the hassle sometimes. So instead. creating a solution of building a native app is often the best choice.

That sudden unecessary agression.
I’m not saying that a Linux port is a bad idea. I know that regardless of whether third party solutions exist or not, people are still going to use the official port. Regardless, Linux users always have solutions, and tons of em’. I’m surprised you haven’t already begun decompiling this game so it’ll run on an Ubercharged, distilled virgin blood cooled toaster.
I barely have the energy to read all of your post, mainly because it’s just a mess of «SALES. COMPATIBILITY. EMULATION. VIRTUAL MACHINES» but I can tell you that regardless of whether you want the port or not, it’s likely not going to happen, because, if you had have read around the forums for a while, you’d actually know that the devs are relying on a broken, third party plugin just to barely piece together a Mac version of the game, so I have doubts about a third party plugin for Linux being made for The Escapists’s engine either.
But sure, you’re a magical computer wizard so you have other solutions, don’t you? I thought that was what Linux was famous for. You have dual-booting, Wine and other such solutions.
Also, emphasis on the whole third party plugin section. Regardless of what you complain about, the game will likely never have a Linux version because of this. It’s not a matter of the devs just not having the resources or time to make a Linux version, just a matter of not having the right software.

I understand that any kind of emulation is generally pretty unstable, but a few people I know have had success playing The Escapists on Linux before.
As for my stereotyping, that’s because pretty much every Linux user invokes their false superiority and starts reciting fancy computing terms to you straight from the instruction manual so that they can confuse you and then act like they’re smart.
I don’t have the energy for this so I’m just going to hit the high notes.

Again with the stereotyping…
You seriously misunderstand what Linux is all about if this is your assumption to how Linux is used all the time. Try doing a little research before you open your mouth to say such things as that. Pretty much what you’re saying here which isn’t really true at all, is that people use it to crack games, decompile them whatever etc… dual-booting and Wine is not a solution. The again assumption of «you’re a magical computer wizard» is you just stereotyping that everyone who uses Linux is a «magical computer wizard» that knows how to take things apart and remake them.

Typical stereotyping at it’s finest right there yet again. In case it hasn’t already been made clear enough to you… NOT everyone who uses Linux is a programming wizard as you make them out to be. There is no false superiority, the fact that people can remember certain things just goes to show how much they know from using it, just as much as Windows or Mac users using special jargon computer terms. There is no «acting smart» it’s called being smart. I had a feeling someone like you would appear in this thread, and I was right, and you’ve only just made yourself look like a fool when you run your mouth off by stereotyping a user base without knowing a few facts.
