TAP driver error when connecting to a VPN

To make sure your issue is caused by the TAP driver, you can check the connectivity logs from the NordVPN app:

1. Open the NordVPN app.
2. Go to Settings ->Show advanced settings ->Diagnostics ->Run Diagnostics Tool.
3. Click on Collect Diagnostics and complete the process.
4. Open the NordVPN app installation folder and find the Diagnostics folder. By default, it is located at C:\Program Files\NordVPN\.
5. You will see a .zip folder with the date of the diagnostics. Example: 2020-07-14 15_24_30Z-logs.zip.
6. Double-click on the .zip folder and locate the service-XXXX-XX-XX.nwl file. Example: service-2020-07-14.nwl.

Double-click on the .nwl file, open it with your favorite text editor, and check for the errors below.

You may notice one of these error messages:

FATAL:All TAP-Windows adapters on this system are currently in use.

Usually, restarting the TAP adapter helps in this case. To restart it, follow these steps:

1. Go to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change Adapter Settings.
2. One of the local area connections will have an under-name TAP-NordVPN Windows Adapter v9.

3. Disable it and enable it again. Try to connect now.

FATAL:There are no TAP-Windows adapters on this systemorFATAL: Blocking DNS failed.

Это не ошибка. Это уведомление о том, что виртуальный адаптер занят каким-то процессом. А о том каким именно процессом он занят, может знать только пользователь данного ПК.

В диспетчер устройств\сетевые адаптеры выключить и заново включить TAP-Windows Adapter V9. Драйвер устройства после дисконекта блокирует клиент и не даёт создать подключение. После рестарта устройства можно без перезапуска клиента создать соединение. До найденного решения мне помогал только ребут системы. Теперь 15 сек и новое подключение готово.

I have execute the tapctl.exe file, i can see the tap adapter on my computer, please check the attachment.
I can’t see the «TAP-Windows » program, so can’t create a tap-windows adapters manually, what i should do now?

it is an utility for creation TAP interfaces

This project does not include the openvpn GUI, what i should do if i want to build the openvpn GUI in this project? any wiki page or doc?

the TAP adapter does indeed exist.

had no problem using openvpn in any of the previous builds. the problem also exists in other (openvpn) clients that make use of the TAP driver, for example securepoint’s client.

I have the same problem but did some checking and I found out that there is a registry entry missing on my computer

Open entry as follows:

• I dont know if the guid is always the same but the last id can be diffrent for sure
• You can open atleast the class key and the just use find data: TAP-Windows Adapter V9

if you have more than one tap adapters then you have to add this for all of them

In this key add the REG_SZ entry:

Отключен виртуальный сетевой адаптер TAP-Win32 Adapter. Включить его можно в Сетевых подключениях (зайдите в Панель управления -> Сеть и Интернет -> Центр управления сетями и общим доступом -> Изменение параметров адаптера, или выполните команду ncpa.cpl)

Порядковый номер 4540 не найден в библиотеке DLL LIBEAY32
