I installed NHL 2001 with the hopes of using anything but CrossOver (since I can’t seem to modify the game’s files when I replace what I’m working on), but I get this error when I try to play the game: There is no Windows program configured to run this program.

I don’t know what Wineskin’s problem is, but I’m pretty sure such a thing, in fact, exists.

The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:

Create a new blank wrapper with the name apps name, once created manually add this new wrapper to “Full Disk Access” doing this will avoid the issue your having, the wrapper “should” have requested the needed permissions but I’ll guess in your case this didn’t happen for some reason.

Gcenx commented Sep 8, 2020 •

This was my system running macOS Catalina 10.15.6 with SIP enabled, you will see the wrapper requests permissions to access Desktop and it retains these permissions, then I try to install something from Downloads and again the wrapper retains said permissions.

Gcenx commented Sep 8, 2020

As you have SIP disabled you wouldn’t get permission prompts.

I’m really not clear on what your doing that’s then causing wine to error out.

Gcenx commented Sep 8, 2020

I’m going to need much more information to possibly understand what’s happening.

Gcenx commented Sep 9, 2020

Here are the steps I can gather from you provided information

  • Mounted ISO
  • Attempted to run the installer
  • You now get the mentioned error.

If this is correct then not been prompted for permissions to access the mounted image seems strange as it uses a system mount point.

You also mentioned dragging the wrapper to “Full a Disk Access” with no luck, was this wrapper created using Wineskin-2.9.0.7-rc1?, upgrading an older wrapper doesn’t count.

Gcenx commented Sep 9, 2020

This sounds like a corrupted tccd database, you can use the following python script to reset the tccd database https://gist.github.com/Gcenx/668befa146e2d1668d232a589b983f2e

What the script does is reset all setting within Security like folder permissions, microphone etc for your user, after doing this on another users system they started to get security prompts again.

The alternative is setting SIP to disabled to bypass these security restrictions.

There is no windows program configured

my Windows app on Linux opens an file explorer window where is mp4 file and clicking on it says:

There is no windows program configured to open this type

So i found https://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ where is chapter «6.6.3 How do I associate a native program with a file type in Wine?»

But i do not understand that example on how i need to apply it to video files like mp4.

I already installed media player classic windows app thru Wine:
/home/ME/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/MPC-HC/mpc-hc64.exe

What is the easiest way to associate all video types to this media player?

You asked for «the easiest way to associate all video types to this media player,» and that’s what I answered.

As for why it doesn’t work in Wine’s file explorer, I think you may be running into https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11461.

There is no workaround for Wine’s file explorer that I know of.

As to your question at the end of your original post, I already answered it: the easiest way to associate all video types with MPC-HC is to do it through your desktop environment. That should enable you to open those files directly from your native file manager rather than bothering with Wine’s file explorer at all.

@dimesio You think i can make Wine to open my file manager (Thunar) instead of stupid Wine explorer? I am using XFCE4.
I just tried to use MIME type manager and ressinged mp4 from Linux MPV to MPC-HC (windows), but the error message i described in first post still appears in wine ran apps (these was restarted after MIME change)

And how i can make wine apps to open folder in Thunar instead of in stupid WIne explorer?

I wanted to associate the file extensions to this wine skinned app, and it worked somewhat in the older versions.
However, this is happening and I’m not sure what caused this when.

I took a look at the settings dialog within the app package, but «%1» seems to be not represented in the dialog form even if I tried to modify it.

The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:

goodhyun commented Sep 18, 2020

Still, we can’t input the type association command line.
Whenever we try to input «%1», it just ignores it and add additional \s.

goodhyun commented Sep 18, 2020

Hmm, just tried to remove the file association and re-add it, however the blank filetype is selected as default and can’t remove/edit any of them. The add dialog is filled with the right command to run this time though.

Gcenx commented Sep 18, 2020

I thought I’d disabled that section entirely.

Not really had chance to look into fixing this but that looks to be an issue related to how registry read/write was modernized originally by Vitor.

Catalina 10.15.4 — Installing Software Error- There is no windows program #36

Comments

smaira commented May 20, 2020 •

OSX Catalina 10.15.4

Can’t install any software. Tried different installers for different softwares but all of them give the same error.

I’ve set no32exec=0 to the boot arguments by booting into recovery mode and then using the command «nvram boot-args=»no32exec=0» — following this article https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/363574/how-much-of-32-bit-support-is-dropped-in-macos-catalina

I know that the current installer supports 64 bit but I also tried with different wrappers 32 bit and 64 bit. These are the engines I tried with.

Here is the output from ole 32

Here is the log from inside the wrapper

The one thing that I noticed was that if I goto Advanced and then select the Installer as the EXE file to run , then hit TEST RUN it brings up the installer. I actually installed something using this method but its not working on the other installer.

Any help will be appreciated.

You say at the start nothing installs but at the end you say you did manage to install something?

Some windows installs have additional requirements that wine doesn’t by default provide like jet/.Net or even some obscure dependencies.

As you haven’t provided the applications name nor provided a link for a trail there’s little myself or anyone else could attempt to assist with.

smaira commented May 21, 2020 •

Sorry for the confusion. I’ll try explaining again.

I am able to create the wrapper successfully. But when I double click the wrapper > Choose Install Software > Choose Setup Executable > it fails with the error shown above.

So as a workaround I went into Advanced > Selected the Setup file in the Windows EXE field and then clicked «Test Run». This worked somehow and the software installed. Then I changed the EXE again to point to the exe under Program Files so that double clicking the wrapper launches the installed program.

But this is not working for the other software I’m trying to install. I don’t have the installer for the 2nd one but the first one can be downloaded here — https://www.vedicastrologer.org/jh/jh_full_install.zip — it’s 32 bit.

I can tell you for sure that both programs worked on Mojave via WineHQ, WineBottler & PlayOnMac. I didn’t try WineSkinServer but I’m sure they would’ve worked with this too. There is something very frustrating about Catalina! I tried running them through VirtualBox but VB keeps crashing on Catalina too. Kernel fatigue or something. But I digress 🙂

I’m happy to share more logs but will need help finding them.

mbunal commented May 23, 2020

i have this too. i just install your unofficial wineskin winery. i create empty wrapper named Eye4. after double clicking, click ‘install software’ -> ‘choose setup executable’. i choose setup executable. and then that message: There is no windows program.

is there any solution?

btocastillon commented May 23, 2020

I get the same error. There is not app in windows that will make this work. I am trying to install metatrader 5 or Steam, I get the same error for both

Gcenx commented May 24, 2020

@smaira not had chance to reboot into Catalina to test this due to recent upstream wine bugs.
You might want to instead test using the pre-release wrapper/WineCX19.0.1-1 engines/Winery as those have been confirmed to be much more stable.

I don’t use Virtualbox as I’ve always found it lacking especially on macOS, Parallels Desktop and VMWare Fusion work much better but or course are paid products.

@mbunal I searched and Eye4 shows as an Android and iOS application, there is a 64Bit version of BlueStacks for macOS so no clue where you’re attempting to use Wine for this.

@btocastillon I don’t know what your doing wrong as I run Steam on macOS Catalina using WineCX19.0.1 and PortingKit is using WineCX19.0.1 heavily for most Ports now.

mbunal commented May 24, 2020

Gcenx commented May 25, 2020

As I’d pointed out before use BlueStacks and the Android client

mbunal commented May 25, 2020

@Gcenx i was able to run eye4 with official wineskin winery. anyway thanks for your replies.

Gcenx commented May 25, 2020

@mbunal official Wineskin doesn’t have any engines for macOS Catalina

mbunal commented May 26, 2020

@Gcenx i was able to run eye4 with official wineskin winery befora Catalina. anyway thanks for your replies.

Can you please clarify how you did the workaround—I think a similar process is described in the post by Jacob Korba here:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/58891420/installing-wine-on-mac-os-catalina-error-no-available-formula-with-the-name-w

«Note: If you get the «No windows app to open the file»(Like I did) error, click advanced -> configuration and set the Windows EXE to the path to the installer. Then find the place that it has installed in and set that as Windows EXE. Then you can run by clicking Test Run.»

But I do not quite understand how to do what you or the person above is describing. I am trying to create a wrapper for an OpenBUGS executable which is in my donwloads folders. Any clarification on this would be appreciated!

«There is a problem with this Windows Installer package.»

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
