Throwing eggs at windows

What’s worse throwing bricks through windows and death threats, or throwing an egg at a window?

Which happened first? Considering the circumstances, was the retaliation violent or passive?

Which was an action that children do, and which was action that thugs do?

Both sides are guilty of violence and threats; and neither side is justified. We need to have a civil debate about the issues, which means keeping emotions in check.

That being said, I find it hilarious that the right is so concerned about eggs, when they were defending the carrying of loaded weapons at the town hall meetings. Hmmm, an egg, or a loaded rifle. Which is more intimidating?

Death threats to some liberal politicians are illegal and wrong. They should and will be prosecuted. Those are a few nut cases that are not condoned by most conservatives.

Egging Tea Party activists is a coordinated effort to infringe on first amendments rights. Such actions are also illegal and wrong, but will not likely be as vigorously prosecuted, and seem to be applauded by most liberals. BTW. Throwing an egg at a moving vehicle is a felony in most places.

Both are very wrong,HOWEVER no one has still been able to connect the brick thrower or the gas line cutting to any tea party member, unlike Pelosi»s trouble all that can be said of him is that he attended one tea party event, that does not make him a tea partier,I would also like to point out another poster in here has a link to a site that is openly advertising for donations so they can assimilate into the tea party and cause them damage,so that just makes me wonder about anything the left says now.

The people who did that are f**king morons — they’re now being investigated by the FBI. (Would you like to have the FBI checking you out?? No one SANE wants that in this climate with international & Home-Grown terrorism)

Any of those actions you listed will get you arrested and booked. You’ll be busted for destroying property, which is a nice, fat felony. Those a*sholes who did that — if they get caught (and there’s an exceedingly good chance they will) are going to have to hire a lawyer and deal with f**king high legal bills that will set them back for years. Plus, it will follow them forever. Every single job they apply for asks this question on the application form:

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN ARRESTED FOR A FELONY? For most jobs — if you answer yes, you might as well go home. Doing any of that stuff is right up there with career & financial suicide. And all for what.

Whats is worst is shooting thru a window or slashing the tires on vans used to get out the vote. Or sending Union goons into an election HQ to intimidate the workers. All things done by the Democrats in 2004.

Karnac the Magnificent

Have you ever tried to get dried eggs off of Stucco? It does not come off if it is dried. I will take the brick. I can repair the damage in about an hour. Painting the house is a real chore.

Most likely the flying bricks if they were to actually strike someone.

most death threats are just voices of anger. But if said on the internet? Not a smart thing to do.

Throwing eggs is just plain childish and does nothing but waste food.

Both are bad—and both of those cases have been shown as leftist activities. Some of these outspoken politicians should WAIT for the background of the individual to come to light before speaking. Foot in Mouth syndrome has taken them over.

Our great grandparents would have been British or French, and we would be blonde haired, blue eyed Germans if we all thought like passive liberals.

You want to go into politics, get ready to deal with it. The people are not Teddy Bears that will shower politicians with kisses. Politicians are dealing with our lives and if they screw up, its a big deal !

I think a bullet through ones window pretty much trumps bricks or eggs.

Throwing cats out of windows

Imagine you’re in a tall building with a cat. The cat can survive a fall out of a low story window, but will die if thrown from a high floor. How can you figure out the longest drop that the cat can survive, using the least number of attempts?

Obviously, if you only have one cat, then you can only search linearly. First throw the cat from the first floor. If it survives, throw it from the second. Eventually, after being thrown from floor f, the cat will die. You then know that floor f-1 was the maximal safe floor.

But what if you have more than one cat? You can now try some sort of logarithmic search. Let’s say that the build has 100 floors and you have two identical cats. If you throw the first cat out of the 50th floor and it dies, then you only have to search 50 floors linearly. You can do even better if you choose a lower floor for your first attempt. Let’s say that you choose to tackle the problem 20 floors at a time and that the first fatal floor is #50. In that case, your first cat will survive flights from floors 20 and 40 before dying from floor 60. You just have to check floors 41 through 49 individually. That’s a total of 12 attempts, which is much better than the 50 you would need had you attempted to use binary elimination.

In general, what’s the best strategy and it’s worst-case complexity for an n-storied building with 2 cats? What about for n floors and m cats?

Assume that all cats are equivalent: they will all survive or die from a fall from a given window. Also, every attempt is independent: if a cat survives a fall, it is completely unharmed.

This isn’t homework, although I may have solved it for school assignment once. It’s just a whimsical problem that popped into my head today and I don’t remember the solution. Bonus points if anyone knows the name of this problem or of the solution algorithm.
