I’m trying to install arch on my pc using external usb wifi adapter TP-Link TL-WN822N.
Wifi is the only way I can connect with that pc.

Firstly, when I run

the the adapter has no name, just:

There is also nothing on it when i run

so I concluded that i need kernel module. I found that my adapter needs module ath9k, and running

didn’t have output so I loaded module by

After doing that i had output of

returned nice line:

still outputs just loopback and ethernet and device in

still doesn’t have name.

I should add that I’m dualbooting with windows and the device is working fine there.

After running usb-devices I can see my adapter with fields

As I’m installing on another computer, I can’t just copy and paste output, but those are fields that I think are important.

Ok, after some searching, i think that my device should use rtl8192eu, but there is no module with that name. I also
saw in this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=219909 that i can use rtl8xxxu driver. But when i run

still nothing happens.

Is there a way to make my device use a driver?

Bought TL-WN722N, works out of the box.
To person from the future (if adatper still isn’t suported) if you have TL-WN822N 4.0 you will need 8192eu driver which can
be installed from aur, but you will still need internet connection. People in the comments recommanded some solutions with
usb phone tethering and similar. Good luck!

That’s v4 of the dongle and not an atheros but realtek chip. The driver is not in the mainline kernel, you’ll have to install the module via dkms.

Yes, that is what i feared.. And how in the world do I do that without internet?

«Not» — however, we’re talking, so you’re wired 😉

Options:
a) borrow a wifi dongle w/ stock support
b) skip dkms, install linux-headers, fetch the module sources, build & install it locally (aside the package manager) so you got a working network — then tidy up.

c) Plug in a phone capable of USB tethering. Put the phone in to USB tethering mode. On the Arch Box, run dhcpcd; the tether is treated as a wired Ethernet while the phone provides NAT forwarding to whatever wireless solution it is using (WiFi or Cellular Data)

As long as the kernel (and all related packages IE kernel-headers) on the device in question and a second device with internet acess are *exactly* the same, one would hope you can build the modules on the internet capable box. The uname -r outputs should match on both machines. Then, copy/paste the built modules over to the malfunctioning box by means of USB flash drive(s). I don’t see any obvious reasons why this can’t work.

JBS, there’s no need for all that. All that’s missing from the target machine is the internet connection to download the sources. It doesn’t matter if the kernel versions match or if it’s even a linux system: if the sources can be downloaded on another computer and put on a flash drive, they can be built on the target machine.

I wrote from my mobile phone, now i write from pc. I didn’t try it with phone, in the end, i just went to store and bought TL-WN722N (read some linux reviews on internet), the hassle wasn’t worth it. New dongle works out of the box, so, i guess solved? Sadly there isn’t anything to write home about, but atleast i learned about kernel drivers

Установка драйвера WiFi адаптера TL-WN822

Добрый день друзья. Есть WiFi адаптер TL-WN822, при подключении к пк с Ubuntu 17.04 находит сети, но подключатся к ним не хочет, даже к открытым, без пароля. Прочитал, что установка драйвера может исправить эту ощибку, но после установки ничего не изменилось. Пытался поставить драйвер https://github.com/pvaret/rtl8192cu-fixes. Компилируется без ошибок. Перешел в папку с распакованным драйвером в теримнале написал make а потом ./install всё прошло без ошибок, но WiFi адаптер всё равно не подключается к беспроводным сетям. Может драйвер нужно в автозагрузку прописать?? Подскажите что делать, как проверить и запустить?

Вообще-то в вашей ссылке написано, что это драйвер устарел, и рекомендуется использовать другой. Ubuntu 17.04 тоже устарела, хотя новая версия 18.04 тоже потребует установки драйвера.

Возможно, проблема не в драйвере, а в настройках сети (вы не описали признаки неполадки), но чтобы не гадать, можно сначала поменять драйвер на рекомендуемый там.

Если не затруднит, дай ссылку на более свежий драйвер под этот чип. Для Ubuntu 18.04.

Признаки неполадки- WiFi сети адаптер видит, при попытке подключения нетворк менеджер моргает подключением (ну как это обычно бывает при подключении к WiFi сети), но нодключение не происходит.. Не устанавливается соединение. Хотя уровень сигнала отличный.

выкинуть это гуано, и купить что-то не на реалтеке. ну это если надо чтобы работало, а не чтобы пое**ться.

Более свежий драйвер есть в более свежем ядре.

Под usb-шный реалтек? Ооо, сомневаюсь.

Сейчас какие модули загружены?

Версия ядра какая?

Напокупают говна, а потом темы создают, для ебанатиков берите на чипе азерос с ним проблем не будет.

К сожалению, «начинкой» и поддержкой со стороны ОС большинство начинает интересоваться после покупки.

Которые купили не подходящее под задачи оборудование за жалкие 800 рублей. И они вокруг него будут плясать и прыгать, вместо того, чтобы продать его на ну за рублей 200 и купить что-то нормальное

Оборудование покупают в отделе закупок нашего предприятия. а мы используем что нам дают.. в отделе закупок что такое линукс не знают. они винду с горем пополам освоили..

В другой теме ответил. Купил TL-WN822N специально для проверки настройки в Linux. Мне попалась версия адаптера Ver.3 на микросхеме RTL8192CU, как обсуждаемая здесь. Вообще-то, есть ещё Ver.4 на микросхеме RTL8192EU, для неё нужен другой драйвер.

В общем, никакой настройки не потребовалось — Wi-Fi заработал искаропки в Ubuntu 18.04 с ядром 4.15. Также заработал в Kali Linux 2018.3 с ядром 4.17 и кажется в Oracle Linux 7.5 с ядром 4.13 (Я бываю рассеянным. Проверял недавно, но уже забыл. Могу вечером проверить, у меня Oracle Linux ещё есть, хотя собираюсь для испытания заменить на ещё что-нибудь). Не знаю, какая минимальная версия ядра подходит. Но если у кого не работает, значит ядро слишком старое, или на самом деле он заработал, но пользователь не обратил внимания на это и стал устанавливать ещё драйвер вручную. Ubuntu 17.04 надо заменить на 18.04, и не будет проблем.

Смотрите комментарий Partisan и тему USB WiFi адаптер. Похоже сейчас у Вас драйвер установлен, а его поддержка в ядре не включена. Обновление до Ubuntu 18.04 или ядра в Ubuntu 17.04 не рассматриваете?

Так это же «те самые» (ну почти)
