Since I am a big fan of hotkeys, I thought it would be a nice idea to put a near-comprehensive list together (through research aka googling)

Win = Start Menu, Win + Pause = System Properties,

Win + D = Show Desktop, Win + M = Minimize all windows, Win + E = Launch Win Explorer (@ My Computer),

Win + R = Run Command, Win + Shift + M = Maximize all windows, Win + L (XP) = Lock OS,

Alt + Tab = Shift between Windows, Alt + Shift + Tab = Shift between Windows (Reverse Order), Alt + Spacebar + N = Minimize current window,

Alt + F4 = Close Current Window, Alt + Spacebar + X = Maximize, Alt + Spacebar + R = Restore,

Ctrl+X = Cut, Ctrl+C = Copy, Ctrl+V = Paste, Ctrl+A = Select ALL, Ctrl+P = Print, Ctrl+ Shift + F10 = Shows Context Menu (Mouse Right Click Effect),

Ctrl+Esc = Start Menu, Ctrl + Shift + Esc = Show Task Manager,

Application Specific (generally): Ctrl + S = Save, Ctrl + F = Find

@ Desktop/Win Explorer: F2 = Rename File, F3/Win + S = Launch Search

Quick Hint: Those who hate typing long folder names/paths can simply drag and drop the whole entry from Windows Explorer Address Bar to Command prompt. (click on the left most end to pick)

I also like using Alt — with a folder selected to launch the properties window. Useful for quick file sized and checking security permissions.

How to Close Windows With Alt + Spacebar + C

One option for closing windows with keyboard shortcuts is as follows:

Open the window that you would like to close using your mouse.

Press and hold down the Alt key, then press the Spacebar to reveal the right-click context menu at the top of the program window you’re trying to close.

Release both keys and press the letter C. This will cause the window to close.

If you can execute this sequence using one hand while the other hand controls the mouse, you’ll be able to close roughly a dozen windows in about as many seconds.

How to Close Windows With Fn + Alt + F4

Another option is to select the window you want to close and then press Fn+Alt+F4. You’ll probably need two hands for this one.

Although the shortcut is officially listed as Alt+F4, you must hold down the Function (Fn) key for it to work.

How to Close Tabs With CTRL + W

The Ctrl+W shortcut only closes the current file you’re working on, but it leaves the program open. This feature can be handy if you want to leave the desktop program open but get rid of all the files you’re working on in quick succession.

Ctrl+W works in most browsers too, so you can close the current tab you’re looking at without taking your hands off the keyboard. If you use Ctrl+W when only one browser tab is open, then the program window will close.

Is there a direct shortcut for maximizing/minimizing/restoring current window in Windows (10)?

I know I can press Alt + Space and then use the arrows to navigate and select, but I looking for a direct shortcut.

Win + ↑	Maximize the window.
Win + ←	Maximize the window to the left side of the screen.
Win + →	Maximize the window to the right side of the screen.
Win + ↓	Minimize the window.
Win + Home	Minimize all but the active window.
Win + Shift + ↑	Stretch the window to the top and bottom of the screen.

Currently as per my experience in Windows 10:

Restore Down The Maximized Window OR Minimize The Restored Window
Win + Down Arrow

Minimize The Maximized Window
Win + Down Arrow (twice)

Maximize The Restored Window
Win + Up Arrow

I was looking for the same thing, and I want to refer to an answer by Sam Hasler who made an AutoHotKey script that adds a shortcut for that task.

In short, this is the script (you need ahk) — just save it as an .ahk file and put it in the startup folder (open it with shell:startup from the Run ):

I know by using Windows + down arrow, the current application window can be restored / minimized, which I learned from http://www.techspot.com/blog/283/windows-7-improved-window-management-using-the-keyboard-hotkeys/ .

But this reduces a maximized windows first before minimizing it, and later when I switch to the window again, I need to press Windows + up arrow to maximize it, which is not handy enough.

So is there any key combination to minimize the window at once ?

yeah it is working. but if i have opened more than two windows means it is not working

Use AutoHotKey together with WinMinimize (http://www.autohotkey.com/docs/commands/WinMinimize.htm).

For example, to remap the Print Screen button to minimize the active window, add this to your ahk script:

This might be an incredibly late response but, if it is one of the first windows in your taskbar, you can Maximize / Minimize the windows with WindowsKey + 1|2|3|4 etc.

Ex: I always have my browser in the first position of my taskbar, so I always maximize / minimize it with Windows + 1.

You need to know in which position is your window, but it is a one step way to do it. Hope it helped somebody 🙂
