3. Add Tabs to the Windows Desktop

Tabs would also be a handy addition to the Windows desktop. Stick is a program that adds notepad, folder explorer and Web browser tabs to the sides of the desktop.

Then you can browse websites, save some notes and open folders with the tabs.

• Click the Download Stick 2.8 button on the software’s website to save the setup wizard. Or you can get it from MajorGeeks.
• Open the setup wizard to add Stick to Windows.
• When you first run Stick, a Getting Started with Stick dialog appears for the only time. You can add tabs to the desktop with that, but any other time you’ll need to right-click Stick’s system tray icon and select Tab Manager to open the window below.

• Click Add Tab and select Notes from the drop-down menu. That will add a Note tab to the top of the desktop as below.

• Now you can move the cursor over that tab to open the notepad shown in the snapshot below. This is a handy Notepad alternative for you to add notes to.

• Open the Tab Manager window again, click Add Tab and select Navigator to open the My Explorer Tab in the snapshot below.

• The My Explorer Tab is both a Web and folder browser. Enter a URL in the Address bar to open websites with it.
• To open folders in the My Explorer Tab, you can select a folder button on its toolbar. That will open a Browse for Folder window you can open a folder in the tab with.
• To configure the navigator tabs to open more specific folders when you select them, right-click the tab on desktop and select Explorer Properties to open the window below.

• Click the URL/Folder button and choose a folder for the tab to open with. That becomes the tab’s home folder.
• You can move tabs on the desktop by dragging them left and right. To move them to other sides of the desktop, right-click a tab and select one of the pin options on the context menu.

Update: It seems that the initial download link is no longer available on the tool’s official website. But you can use third-party download platforms to get the tool.

TinyTabs, Stick and Clover are just three of the software packages that bring tabs to Windows. WindowTabs, QTTabBar and TabExplorer are a few other programs that add tabs to File Explorer and application windows.

Hopefully Microsoft will consider adding tabs to future Windows platforms, but for now you can add them to the OS with third-party software.

As you all know Microsoft has already announced a similar feature called Sets. Basically, this feature groups File Explorer windows together. However, it seems that the tech giant hasn’t had the time to fully implement Sets into its new Windows 10 OS versions.

Since Microsoft is taking so long to actually bring Tabs to Windows 10, many users are wondering whether this is still a valid idea for the company or not.

Well, recent report suggest that Microsoft will focus heavily on bringing Tabs to File Explorer after it has completed the Chromium on Edge transition. And this may take a few more months.

Who knows, if everything goes according to plan, Tabs on Windows 10 might be available as a fully-fledged feature in 2020.

How to change Alt+Tab settings in Windows 10

This post will help you change Alt+Tab settings in Windows 10. When we press Alt+Tab hotkey, it shows the thumbnails of opened windows and Microsoft Edge tabs and helps switch from one application to another. If you want, you can customize this default Alt+Tab behavior you can do so.

• One option lets you use the old or classic Alt+Tab menu (also known as Task Switcher) that shows only icons of opened programs and not thumbnails.
• The second option helps to set whether you want to hide or show Microsoft Edge tabs in the Alt+Tab menu, show only opened windows, opened windows, and 3 most recent tabs of Microsoft Edge, etc.

Change Alt+Tab settings in Windows 10

1. Using Registry Editor
2. Using the Settings app.

1] Switch to old Alt+Tab menu using Registry Editor

This method helps to switch from the modern or default Alt+Tab menu to the old Alt+Tab menu and vice-versa.

1. Open Registry Editor
2. Access Explorer key
3. Create AltTabSettings DWORD value
4. Change value data of AltTabSettings DWORD value.

Go to Explorer key. Its path is-

Under Explorer key, create AltTabSettings DWORD value. For this, right-click on that key, go to the New menu, and click on DWORD (32-bit) Value.

When the value is created, rename it to AltTabSettings.

Double-click that AltTabSettings value and a small box will open. There, in the Value data field, add 1, and press OK.

Now restart File Explorer. Use Alt+Tab hotkey. You will see that the classic Alt+Tab menu is visible.

To revert the changes, follow the above steps, add 0 in the Value data field, and again restart File Explorer to use the default Alt+Tab menu.

2] Show or hide Microsoft Edge Tabs in Alt+Tab menu using Settings app

This option helps to set if you want to show only opened windows, opened windows as well as Microsoft Edge tabs, etc. Let’s see how to do it.

1. Launch the Windows Settings app using Win+I hotkey
2. Click on System
3. Access Multitasking on the left-hand section
4. Use the Alt+Tab section on the right-hand side.

There you will see a drop-down menu for the Pressing Alt+Tab shows option. Use that menu and take the necessary action.

Using these two native ways, you are able to customize Alt+Tab settings.

The title says it all. The fact that windows 10 does not have this is a performance issue. It lacks the ability to perform as well as Mac’s Finder and Ubuntu’s Nautilus. Please fix this issue. because not adding it after this long is a serious problem. Microsoft was made aware of this bug since Windows 7 and have done nothing to fix it! Please just fix it.

if you guys are not willing (which is most likely the case) please point me to where I can get tabs. I was using «Clover» but now it crashes when when I launch applications from chrome that need to interact with file explorer.

Make this concept real or Windows 10 is just another flop like Windows Vista. yes I know harsh but it has to be said.

As far as I know, it is a third party software and it is not developped by Microsoft. If it won`t run well in Windows 10, please contact the software to get a Windows 10 compatible version.

As for adding the tab feature, I am not quite sure the exact needs here.

As far as I know, it is a third party software and it is not developped by Microsoft. If it won`t run well in Windows 10, please contact the software to get a Windows 10 compatible version.

As for adding the tab feature, I am not quite sure the exact needs here.

it has been a few years since it was updated, also. the only other one I have found mentioned is TabExplorer and their site is not coming up.

Well said, I am having the same problem — its the one thing I’m frustrated with and I’ve only had Windows «X» (Roman Numbers — Ten — 10). . here is the interesting deal. Symbolically you can draw the words XP on the ground Wicca style. I’m not Wicca, just saying. Not only that, but its very easy and very quick to write it as a «Pure Circle» in the way that was once taught to me by a friend back in high school (Windows 2000 Generation) who was/is Wicca. Having said that, everything since XP Operating System (Bill Gates Pinnacle Achievement Platform) . has been one flop to the next with Microsoft. He has obviously since then retired from software development of platforms. Its problem, reaction, solution — all over again, technologically speaking. Personally I’m a Linux guy who uses Ubuntu Mint, but recently bought a computer in Windows 8.1 Style Operating System — not to mention that she who paid for it did so as a gift. I noticed that at the bottom you provided a reference to a «File Explorer Tab Concept» being «Pure Eye Candy» not sure if its just strait up a web URL to the tab update, but yes I do agree 100% that it should be included, or else Microsoft is going to have a lot of pissed off customers, or at the very least, disappointed customers. Personally it is my opinion that with all of this cross platform shit going on between Apple, Microsoft, iPad, iPhone, cellular, tablet etc, . when it comes to multi-support between «windows» «blackberry» «google» and on and on. . that it is by design to confuse people so that they give up and buy an «Apple» computer; . because «it just works» as Steve Jobs once said while at the height of his career. Like I said earlier — Problem, Reaction, solution; . it just seems to be how they roll. And that is a reference to the author David Icke.
