First, We Would Have ‘Micrsoft’ Without It

from 1975–1987, when the former “O” in the Microsoft logo was formed by the blibbet.

The blibbet was a circle with stripes suggesting a disc (a floppy disc), motion, lightness and digitization, I guess. Think IBM, AT&T and Adidas perhaps.

When the blibbet was about to be nixed, Microsoft employees campaigned to keep it — but, alas, we cannot easily enter the blibbet in text today using Microsoft’s Windows.

We can enter the Apple logo, though, from 1976. Let’s get to it!

How to Add the Apple Logo to Text on Windows

Time needed: 2 minutes.

To insert the Apple logo into using the keyboard any text you are writing under Windows:

Start typing character map .

Open the Character Map application.

Tip: You can also press Windows R , type “charmap” in the Run dialog and click OK.

Look for and double-click the Apple symbol in the list so it appears under Characters to copy:.

Tip: If you do not spot the Apple symbol right away, you can make sure Advanced View is checked, make sure Unicode is selected under Character set: and type “F000” under Go to Unicode.

Make sure Baskerville Old Face is the font selected for new text in the application where you want to insert the Apple logo.

Press Ctrl V to paste the logo.

Now, you can use text formatting tools to edit the symbol, of course: make it bigger or change its color, for example.

Note: Do be careful not to change the font as the logo only works in Baskerville Old Face.

If you use the Apple symbol frequently in Word for Windows, you can also set up a shortcut for inserting it swiftly.

Important: The Apple Symbol Will Not Display Right for Others

Like the Apple symbol on Apple devices, the Apple symbol on Windows is defined only for Windows; it specifically works only with the Baskerville Old Face typeface. If you include the Apple logo in any document, email or message you send to somebody else,

• it will display fine for others using Windows with the Baskerville Old Face font installed (which it should be) but
• people using other systems and devices — those using a Mac or iPhone, for instance, or Linux — will see either nothing, a broken symbol or something different altogether.

How can I enter the Apple symbol in Microsoft Word?

In Word, Outlook, Excel and other Microsoft Office applications, you can use the method above, of course, or engage the built-in Symbols map; you can also employ the following shortcut, however.

To type the Apple logo in Microsoft Word using Unicode:

1. Set the font to Baskerville Old Face.
2. Type F000 .
3. Press Alt X immediately afterwards.

Office will replace the Unicode value with the character.

Can I have the Apple logo show on non-Windows systems?

No, there is no reliable way to insert the Apple logo with text so it displays correctly on other operating systems.

The only reliable way to make sure the Apple logo shows fine for everybody is to

• take a screenshot and enter that image in your text.

If you are sending to somebody using an Apple product (a macOS, iOS or tvOS device), you can include the Apple logo as these systems use it:

• Copy and paste  .
  Important: Do keep the broken symbol intact.

You can also insert the symbol for the Apple logo as used on Apple devices directly:

1. Make sure Alt+Numpad is enabled for Unicode text entry on Windows.
2. Hold down the Alt key while pressing + on the numeric keypad followed by F8FF (not using the numeric keypad).

In addition to gracing your favorite hardware, the Apple logo can be incorporated into your documents, text messages, and anywhere else you type by using the special Mac keyboard shortcuts or text replacement methods.

Not many brand symbols are more recognizable than the Apple logo, an iconic image prominently displayed on Macs, iOS devices, and countless digital and print ads. While the coloring has changed a bit from the rainbow-striped version introduced in 1977, the shape and design of the Apple logo has remained consistent for over 40 years.

How to Type the Apple Logo on Mac

To type the Apple logo on your macOS laptop or desktop computer, press Option+Shift+K.

The Apple logo may not display correctly in the majority of non-Apple operating systems, including Windows. In many cases, the logo will be replaced by a square icon or another placeholder. Keeping this in mind, it’s best to only use the logo when corresponding with other macOS or iOS users.

How to Type the Apple Logo on iOS

You can also type the Apple logo on your iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. Unlike the Mac, there is no built-in keyboard shortcut tied to this icon, so we need to create our own using the Text Replacement feature.

Before getting started, the first thing you’ll need to do is copy the Apple logo to your device’s clipboard. Tap the logo to highlight it, then tap Copy when the pop-out menu appears: 

Be sure to only highlight the Apple logo and not any accompanying text or spaces.

Tap Settings > General > Keyboard.

A list of configurable keyboard-related options should now be displayed. Tap Text Replacement.

Tap the Plus (+) symbol, located in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.

Tap once in the Phrase edit field so that the pop-up menu appears, then tap Paste to add the copied Apple logo.

If Paste is not an option, you may not have copied the logo correctly. Try copying it again and return to the Text Replacement interface to paste it.

In the Shortcut field, type a set of characters that will automatically be transformed into the Apple logo whenever they’re typed.

Use something you wouldn’t normally type for any other reason, but also a word or character set that’s easy to remember.

Tap Save, located in the upper right-hand corner.

Your new shortcut should now be shown in the Text Replacement list.

To test your new shortcut, open a new email and begin typing the shortcut you just created. If successful, the Apple logo will show up as a suggestion as you type. Tap the Apple logo to insert it into your email.

You can follow this same path when you want to type the logo in a text message or any other supported app.

How to Type the Apple Logo on Windows

Contrary to popular belief, you can type the Apple logo on Windows. In fact, the icon is available as a Unicode symbol.

Press Windows Key+R to open the Run window.

Type «charmap,» then press Enter.

The Character Map interface should now be displayed, overlaying your other active applications. Select Baskerville Old Face using the Font drop-down menu.

Scroll to the bottom of the available symbols grid and double-click the Apple logo, found in the lower right-hand corner.

The Apple logo should now be shown in the Characters to copy field. Select Copy.

Place your mouse cursor in the application and location where you’d like to type the Apple logo. Paste the icon from your clipboard via the Select Edit > Paste (if available) to paste the logo, or press Ctrl+V.

Not all applications support Unicode characters so you may see a question mark or something other than the expected Apple logo.

There are a few different ways to type the Apple logo quickly and we’ll cover two of the most popular options below. If you’re using a PC, you won’t be able to use the keyboard shortcut that requires the option key, and non-Apple operating systems typically don’t feature the Apple logo in their character sets for viewing either.

2. You can also type  on Mac, iPhone, and iPad with a Text Replacement shortcut
3. On your Mac head to System Preferences → Keyboard → Text → + to create a new Text Replacement
4. If you’re using the same iCloud account across all of your Apple devices, that Text Replacement made on Mac will work on iPhone and iPad

iPhone & iPad

1. To create the Apple logo Text Replacement on iOS, head to Settings on your iPhone or iPad
2. Tap General → Keyboard → Text Replacement
3. Tap the + in the top right corner
4. Copy and paste  (← one) in the Phrase field, enter your Text Replacement in the Shortcut field
5. Tap Save in the top right corner, now you can use the shortcut phrase to quickly type the Apple logo
