logon failure: unknown user name or bad password
I have a laptop with win 7 home premium and desktop with pro.
They both have the same username and the same password
the laptop computer name is robslaptop
the desktop computer name is robsdesktop
Network sharing had been fine until this morning when I rebooted.
Now everytime the laptop tries to access any of the network shares on robsdesktop it is prompted for username and password and even though I know with 100% certainty that my user/pass is correct I get this error.
What is really frustrating is again that this had all been working fine for months. maybe over a year until I rebooted my laptop just now.
The desktop computer can access the laptop file shares no problem and it doesn’t ask for user/pass (probably cause its saved)
on the laptop side I am trying to log in as
robsdesktop\robbie i’ve tried lower case and proper «Robbie» its always the same error.
You can turn off password protected sharing on your computer. When password protected sharing is on, only people who have the same user account and password
on a networked computer as the computer with the shared files or who know the user name and password of the user sharing the files can access them.
Follow these steps:
a. Open Control Panel from the Start Menu.
b. Open Network and Sharing Center in the Control Panel.
c. Select Change advanced sharing settings in the left column of the Network and Sharing Center.
d. Expand the network you want to disable password protected sharing on by clicking the down arrow on the right of the profile.
e. Select Turn off password protected sharing and then click save changes.

unknown user’s name in Windows 10 task list
I’have found a process named DWM (Desktop Windows Manager) running under an user named «DWM-1» or sometime «DWM-2»
It is an high consuming memory process (sometime PCU as well) and I’have found in the web that is a regular Windows 10 process from Microsoft. My question: if this is an officialand regular Microsoft Windows Process, why it doesn’t run as system user?
Moreover in the user’s list it doesn’t appare (but even System doesn’t !!)
Is there any issue with that? (malicius, virus, malware, etc..)

Desktop Window Manager (DWM) is a Windows process that helps you manage the visual effects on the desktop such as glass window frames, 3D window transition animations, high-resolution support, and others. To solve your concern about the Desktop Windows Manager, we suggest that you do the following:
Method 1: Change theme or wallpaper
- Open Settings and choose Personalization.
- You may need to change the Background picture, Colors, Lock screen and Themes.
- Try switching to Basic Theme, which will greatly reduce the load on your system and the battery.
- If you have activated Screensaver, you may need to disable it temporarily as well to see if the problem disappears.
Method 2: Run the Performance Troubleshooter
- Open Command Prompt (Admin).
- Type the following command in the Run dialog box and press Enter: msdt.exe /id PerformanceDiagnostic.
- Wait for the troubleshooting process to finish.
Method 3: Update Display Drivers
- Press Win + R keys at the same time to open the Run dialog box .
- In the Run dialog box , type devmgmt . msc and click on OK to open Device Manager window.
- Expand Display adapters category, right-click on the display driver , and click on Uninstall .
- Follow the on-screen prompts.
- Once done, restart your computer to apply the changes.
Let us know if the recommended solution works for you.
unknown user name
My signon name to my Windows 10 desktop is _____. A user name, _____-2 has shownup in the users folder and seems to be prominently used by Windows — in paths in particular. However, this user name does not show up in in the list of users in Control Panel. I am not allowed to delete if from the users folder — «only _____-2 can delete this folder» is the approximate error message I get when trying to delete the _____-2 folder in the users folder.
It seems to be really messing up my network (permissions in particular). Can anyone help?
