Windows 10 — USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller Code 10
I just upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 and I find that the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller cannot start (code 10)
None of my usb 3.0 ports work, I’m currently using a CM6850 Mobo, I’ve tried uninstalling/disabling and reinstalling but I cannot get the drivers to work. Has anyone else had this issue or know a fix?

Moving the USB card fixed it! I just went through the same problem with a Windows 10 system that had been running beautifully for 6 months or more. Yesterday, I installed a SIIG USB 3.0 card (PCIe x1) and got the same USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller cannot start (code 10) error message. I tried all the remedies outlined on this thread with no success, including downloading the SIIG Windows 8.1 driver and trying to get that to work—it is a Renesas chipset driver. SIIG website says Windows 10 native driver is all that is required. Then after working to resolve the problem for a couple of hours, it hit me that my sound had stopped working. I checked Device Manager, and it showed everything was fine with the sound card. I thought maybe I had accidentally disconnected something inside, so I opened it up and found everything in perfect order. Then it occurred to me that maybe using a PCIe slot adjacent to the sound card PCIe slot had created a conflict. So, I moved the USB 3 card to a different PCIe slot, rebooted, and the sounds had come back, and the Windows 10 USB driver was automatically installed and working perfectly. So, I recommend trying a different PCIe slot that is not adjacent to any other slot in use. My mobo specs do say that the PCIe x16 slot used for the video card and the adjacent PCIe x1 slot cannot be used simultaneously, but there is no mention of a problem with using adjacent PCIe x1 slots at the same time. Anyway, my problem is now solved.

I’m kind of hesitant to follow what you have requested since you mentioned that I’m having «speed issues» which I don’t think is what I’m having based on what I have posted.
I would just like to clarfiy if what you have provided is indeed intented to solve the issue I have explained above? Or that was for someone else?
Looking forward to hearing from you.

I apologize, the Windows tool is what you need and I did mean to say for Driver install issues. This tool will help.
Here is a link to Troubleshooting USB Connections.
Please let me know how it goes. Thanks.

Thank you for the quick reply!
It seems that for your product, Windows 10 drivers are being pushed through the Windows Update. Try that first, to check for drivers that will work with Windows 10. You can check this site as well: HP Products — Where Do I Find Windows 10 Drivers and Software for My Model?
If you are having trouble installing the drivers, you can use the tool at the following site:
Even though it says it is for Windows 7, you can use it with Windows 10.
It is possible that drivers may not be available for your product. If that is the case, or the drivers you found are not working, try using the solutions on this site as a workaround, and let me know how it goes: How to: Install and Update drivers in Windows 10
