Thank you for using Windows 10.

I suggest you to uninstall and re-install the fingerprint drivers in compatibility mode and check. Here is the steps:

  1. Go to your manufacturer’s website and download the Driver’s setup file for your computer.
  2. Press Windows Key + R on your desktop screen to go to run box.
  3. Type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.
  4. Under Driver, expand, then right click and select Uninstall.
  5. If you are prompted to Confirm then Confirm.
  6. Go to the location where you had saved your downloaded setup files of the drivers and right click, then select Properties.
  7. Select Compatibility Tab.
  8. Place a check mark next to Run this program in Compatibility mode and select the operating system accordingly from the drop down list.
  9. Let the driver to install and then check the functionality.

Keep us informed about the status of the issue and let us know if you need further assistance and we’ll be happy to help you.

Thank you Navneet Anand! Although all of what you have suggested was tried by me earlier. Everything like deleting, reinstalling, picking up driver, compatibility and rest but it didn’t work. Just want to clarify, initially I upgraded windows 7 professional to windows 10 pro after that I did refresh this PC. Still Microsoft or HP driver was not working. Few days back I had to do clean install of Windows 10 from USB (sorry for mistake in question) and after installing all necessary windows updates along with fingerprint driver provided by Microsoft, it is working like a charm! I could use Windows Hello feature now.

Although I am not sure why it didn’t work earlier? Is it because windows 10 still does not handle driver installations properly, I am not sure. Anyway thanks for looking into this.

Ryuzai_L, when you say you did a clean install, do you mean to a fully formatted drive starting from the ground up? I had the same problem and also rolled back to Windows 7 in order to get my fingerprint reader to work.

CyclingSmiths , let me elaborate what I did-

  1. I have two partitions on hard drive, one is system drive C, another is for all other stuff.
  2. I upgraded to win 10.
  3. As having traces of windows 7 in windows 10 after upgrade, it made my system slow and buggy, I am not sure why.
  4. tried all the options to install and make fingerprint reader work with windows hello but nothing worked. Believe me, I am very much into computers and could not make it work.
  5. So I used—> settings—> update and security —> Recovery —> Reset this PC
  6. Again I tried making fingerprint work but failed.
  7. Finally made a bootable USB and formatted and installed Windows 10 pro again on my system drive C. I did not format whole hard drive just system drive.

And after necessary windows updates fingerprint reader started working the way it should! I have not tried installing any HP driver for fingerprint reader afterwards. I do not want to take any chances, you see! One thing peculiar I noticed about windows 10 is your hardware works fine if you install it clean not just upgrade and let Microsoft decide drivers through windows update. Just to make sure, I observed same thing worked on DV6-3043TX!

Hope this helps!

Thank you for reply!

I tried to install both HP SimplePAss and that version of driver that you suggested. I think your version of driver does not fit to my finger scanner (native on HP website for Envy 13 — SP72114, which get easily in place). Still the scanner does not show any signs of life (no blinking light, not available in Simple Pass or Windows Sign-in settings).

The hardware version — did not find anything close to yours. The closest — VID_138&PID_0050&REV_0060

Please, any other ideas?

I got my fingerprint reader working on my HP Pavilion dv7 (aka dv7-6c95dx) running Windows 10. I cobbled the method from reading a bunch of other posts.

  1. At the top of HP’s website go to the menu Support > Software & drivers.
  2. Find your model of computer however is easiest for you. I entered » Pavilion dv7-6c95dx «.
  3. That took me to my specific machine’s support page http://bit.ly/1YmXdBD (opens in a new page). It said Windows 10, which I have, but no drivers specified. I already knew this would be the case from other posts in this forum. You will see a line that says «Software available for your operating system: Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Windows 10 » with a Change link. Click the Change link and select Microsoft Windows 8 .
  4. Click the Update button.
  5. A bunch of entries will appear. Look for and select Driver-Keyboard, Mouse and Input Devices .
  6. I clicked the button Download 64-bit .
  7. After I got the file to my machine, I right-clicked on «This PC» on my desktop and selected Properties . There I clicked on the Device Manager link.
  8. Right click on Biometric Devices > Validity Sensors (WBF) (PID=0018) and slect Properties .
  9. Select the Driver tab and click the Uninstall button.
  10. After uninstall is completed, run the installer you just downloaded. Mine was called sp58834.exe .
  11. After installation is complete, you need to reboot your machine to complete the install.

Since I put this new driver in, my fingerprint reader has been working great on Windows 10.

So my hard drive recently crashed and I had it replaced. Complete factory reset, I have got everything working exept the fingerprint sensor with windows hello. I can add my fingerprints in the settings app but I cannot log in to windows with windows hello. I have tried several different drivers and numerous restarts but with no success. When I originally bought the notebook (right when windows 10 was released) I had the same problem until HP released the windows 10 drivers for my laptop (delivered via HP support assistant). This time around It does not work even though I have the latest drivers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the reply,

-The fingerprint reader is recognized by windows as a validity sensor

-Windows hello works, I can set up and add my fingerprints via the settings app. no problems there.

-The issue pesents itself on the lock screen:

The fingerprint sign in option does not show up. At all. The fingerprint reader’s LED light flashes but as soon as I swipe my finger it stops flashing and i need to input my pin.

Thanks for any help offered.

You’ve done a remarkable job performing the steps suggested earlier, great work

And don’t worry, as we should be able to fix this up with a few more steps and I’ll be with you until we ensure this issue is fixed.

Since it works fine on windows hello, it confirms that this isn’t a hardware failure but a software issue,

Hence, I would request you to follow the steps listed below:

Set up the fingerprint reader using Verisoft Access Manager instead of the HP Simple pass,

To set up the fingerprint reader to recognize your fingerprint, you must have a logon account on the computer and the account must require a password. Multiple people can be registered to use the fingerprint reader if each person has an individual computer logon account. Follow the steps below to set up the fingerprint reader.

In Windows, double-click the VeriSoft Access Manager icon in the notification area of the taskbar to open the My Identity window.

Alternately, click Start > All programs > Verisoft > My Identity.

Click Log On to open the VeriSoft Logon Wizard. Click Next to begin.

Enter the User’s Windows password in the Password field on the Introduce Yourself page, and click Next.

If you have successfully logged on to Windows, click Finish to close the wizard.

Click Register Fingerprints on the My Identity window, to open the VeriSoft Logon Wizard. Click Next to begin.

For more details: Click here

Click here to download the software.

Let me know how that pans out,

Feel free to post your query for any other assistance as well,

It’s been a pleasure interacting with you and I hope you have a good day ahead.

If you wish to show appreciation for my efforts, mark my post as Accepted Solution.

And click on the Purple Thumbs up icon at the bottom of my comment.

May the force be with you.

This is a solution. You’ll be able to use your fingerprint scanner through Windows Hello without any HP softwares (i didn’t even try to use simplepass). I’m running Windows 10.

Download and install:

I hope it works also for you

I researched with the following terms : » Synaptics FP Sensors ( WBF ) Version 4.5.317 «

and I found this:

Dude, there’s NOT an «actual hardware site to ge the right driver match», did you ever tried to find it? That’s why so much people is asking about that, because HP’s site do not have the driver, neither the manufacturer.

I advise using another company Driver unless it is certified to match your hardware and only then. I would go to the acutal hardware site to get the right driver match.
